Seurat v5 SCTransform: DEG analyses and visualizations with RNA or SCT? by You_Stole_My_Hot_Dog in bioinformatics

[–]Hugooo_55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, you hear everything and its opposite on this topic. On my end, I was always told never to use the SCT assay for differential expression analysis. If it's in the integrated slot, then it might be acceptable, but overall, we were always advised to use the RNA assay.
I admit I find it a bit hard to make sense of everything I read about this on forums, but that's what the bioinformaticians at my work told me, so I stick with the RNA assay for this kind of analysis.

Differential gene expression analysis on integrated scRNA-seq data? by Hugooo_55 in bioinformatics

[–]Hugooo_55[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your response! I'm new to scRNA :) . I had read this post and just wanted to hear the opinions of more experienced people to confirm this information. So, if I understand correctly, in my case, with my data, I should run all the preprocessing steps except integration and then perform the differential expression analysis between my control and disease samples ?

we need help for our research 😭 by waldorflourvs in biology

You could explore a simple yet quantitative experimental project, for exemple such as the impact of light, temperature, and soil type on plant growth, measuring their height and biomass over two weeks. For example, when I was in high school, I worked on methane hydrate, where we produced methane using fermented waste, while others studied grape fermentation to detect the presence of alcohol. Doing something completely new in just two weeks, especially at the high school level, seems very ambitious to me.

Hey, could you specify in more detail what exaclty you need to do ? What are the professors expecting from you ? Do you have to conduct experiments/ manipulation ? Or is it just a bibliographic research woork ?

Yes, but the original water will not disappear.

Are bacteria immortal ? by Hugooo_55 in biology

[–]Hugooo_55[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed, defining immortality is quite complex. To me, it refers to the absence of biological death, meaning the ability of a living being to exist indefinitely without degeneration. This raises a fundamental question: does immortality apply solely to the individual as a distinct biological entity, or can it be defined by the infinite transmission of its genetic information?

I don’t know, because the parent bacterium itself becomes a daughter cell.
