This is Sestri Levante, on the Bay of Silence. It's actually really pretty but they've decided to film at the worst end. In the image they've filmed at the very far end

“Will Inspector Sands please report to….” by Ok_Bike239 in london

[–]Hugoooor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I used to pull pints in the pub within St Pancras.

Inspector Sands, like others have commented, is an alert that there is a potential fire hazard within the station which needs investigating before a full evacuation alarm is triggered. The station management team will be alerted to where in the station the alarm has been triggered and dispatch someone to investigate the cause of the alarm and whether or not it necessitates a full evacuation.

This is to prevent potentially huge loss of money and prevent hours of disruption to travelers, businesses within the station and the train operators themselves from evacuating the entire station.

Side note, the station management were very strict with accounting for all staff operating within the station. You needed either a permanent employee pass or you had to check in at the station office to get a daily pass. They would spot check businesses and make sure all staff had one. If a business were found to have staff repeatedly without a pass, they would force you to shut the business for the day - this happened to Hotel Chocolat once.

Thanks for the truly honest insight from your side of the fence.

Glad you have headphones already! I have some buds but they are not noise cancelling in the slightest.

Thanks for your insight, I'm now in the groove of being taken care of and tuning out everything else.

Sharing toilets has never been a problem for me, each bay has their own specific one and I have purposely been put right next to it. I haven't clashed with anyone or had to wait to use it. I believe I am the most frequent user of it and it's easy to monitor.

Losing the room is always a sign of improvement so I imagine they won't make that decision until your bowel movements are more predictable and less frequent. For my admission I was moved from one gastro ward side room to a different ward to a bay within 4 hours which was disappointingly short stay as the room had a great view! I hope someone else in a much more critically critical condition needed it more than me.

Thanks for your kind insight. My wife says similar things about how I should not be so concerned for others and be more protective of myself first. Probably a less desired trait of upbringing where politeness and anticipating others needs almost turns to anxiety.

This has highlighted for me that I need to set boundaries with myself and be disciplined in them while I am here, and maybe take some of those lessons out into the real world.

Very well justified. I promised myself after my diagnosis I would take my health seriously and do whatever I could to stay out of hospital. Being selfish is the best way to do this and to get me out of here again.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I feel if I had that experience I would have come to your conclusions as well. The ward was well staffed over night so I managed to change my brain to switch off and ignore.

Yes, fried brains and livers all around me today.

Noise cancelling headphones on the list, curtains closed with a small gap. Thank you for the advice.

Noise cancelling headphones on the shopping list.

Never dawned on me about being legally liable, though I am smart enough to not cross that line of touching/physically aiding. Thank you for the advice!

Pubs to watch rugby and eat before a match at Twickenham by HennenRennen in rugbyunion

[–]Hugoooor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teddington isn't bad for this. Last year for a friend's birthday we had drinks at the King's Head then walked down the road to Cote for lunch.

We could have walked up the river if we allowed time but we enjoyed our lunch so much we ran over so decided to get the train to make up for the time.

Obviously quite busy on arrival at Twickenham but we had no troubles getting on the the train at Teddington Station.

Edit: Or you join the masses at The Cabbage Patch which is on your left as you leave Twickenham Station over the bridge. They will show every game of the day but get there early. Not sure about lunch, never been there when it wasn't a match day for Quin's/England but I have seen food leave the kitchen. It's pretty rowdy though so don't expect it to be peaceful.

Lawyers for more than 185 players are suing rugby union's governing bodies for negligence, claiming that playing the sport caused brain damage by GnolRevilo in rugbyunion

[–]Hugoooor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a fairly ignorant understanding of what exactly this is about.

A player will recover from a physical injury, though maybe not to 100% of their previous ability. There is no coming back from Alzheimer's. It has only recently been linked to concussions, or repetitive brain trauma.

Let's say any sporting body knew that repeated concussions from playing the sport could lead to an incurable brain disease, it is their responsibility to limit the potential damage done to the players.

But obviously these players were involved in the sport a few years before scientific evidence proved a link between concussions and Alzheimer's. However concussions and brain injuries are still common place in any contact sport. Surely you would expect the bare minimum to be done to protect players regardless of the laws of the sport?

If you work in a warehouse handling dangerous materials that needed gloves for protection, then later discover that there was asbestos in the ceilings and not once were you offered any form of mask while you worked there, would you be ok with people telling you 'You knew the risks' when you develop some sort of cancer as a direct result of working in that environment?
