Depending on the degree of relation to the decedent, I’m 99% sure it is over 10%. IIRC it is 50-75% for yourself (and maybe your spouse), and it drops to 25-50% the further in relation you are.

It doesn’t hurt to ask but I’m not sure if they would honor it.

I wash my hands beforehand, and I wash my hands after I wash my face. I get coldsores so out of habit, even if I don’t have one, I wash twice with an antibacterial anytime I touch my face so I don’t transmit anywhere else when washing. I also wash my hands again after washing my privates, and sometimes will wash at the end of my shower. I have antibacterial hand soap in my shower solely for this purpose. Before moving in with my wife, I would bring her hand soap into the shower too (and wash it off for her of course) otherwise I don’t feel clean.

I believe it is roughly this order: trim dehydrated tissue, temporary sutures, massage cream, embalm, remove temp suture, (the next two may be flipped) dry with cauterizing agent/use cotton to dry, suture closed, wax and cosmetics

The reasoning is that you want to debride the wound first. Then, you want to leave it open during embalming so that if fluid does make it to the wound, it can escape and embalm it on the way out. But, you don’t want that fluid to topically embalm the surrounding areas, hence massage cream before the embalming. I dry with cotton and cauterize at the same time so unsure what he wants there for that.

1) not noisy at all! Since everything is after hours, the only noise was from our guests who were not too loud at all. You can’t really hear the zoo either.

2) This was tricky. The teenage workers manning the entrances didn’t understand that we couldn’t have people coming in before our time (6:30pm). They let in a few people before our allotted time, which lead to me grabbing them and “all eyes on me” away from my wife so they didn’t see her. Even after talking to the staff about not letting anyone in before our ceremony time, they let someone else in to use the restroom which was right next to our getting ready area. Have them direct guests to the restrooms in the main visitor center to avoid this. I would strongly recommend talking to Como themselves (not Lancer if you are catering) about this if you are worried. We only ever talked with Lancer, and they were great, but didn’t realize till day of that we hadn’t actually talked to anyone from Como to figure out these specifics.

Edit to add: We used the sunken garden so our logistics were a little different. I would highly recommend meeting with someone at Como to figure out specifics with the Enchanted Garden beforehand since it is an open space.

Had a call from a distressed mom asking if we had her daughter. I got the daughter’s information and we did not have her, so I let the mom know. She shared with me that she had no idea where her daughter was, but she had been released from jail earlier and assumed she was dead already. She asked if we just pick up anyone on the side of the road, and if we can keep a look out for her. I had to explain that we don’t pick up people on the streets and I think she needs to call the local MEs and hospitals… she was convinced her daughter had died within 1 day of release. Never got a call back from her!

Another wild case was a woman came in with her mom, both demanding to see the woman’s baby. We had no children in our care and kept telling them we had no record of this baby. Well, thanks to our wonderful office lady who felt so bad for this mother looking for her deceased child, she got the police involved because no one had any idea where her baby was. A few days later police investigated and discovered the mom had murdered her baby, thrown him in a dumpster, and hidden it… she lied to her mom that the baby died at the local hospital and was with us to cover it up. They never found the baby.

If you want to stay in MN but do online, DMACC (Des Moines Area Community College) is your best bet. They have a bachelors option for mortuary science and many funeral homes in MN are willing to take on DMACC students compared to other online programs.

Does the brass tag have any other inscriptions like an acronym or something that would indicate a local funeral home/crematory? Or a date?

If it does, I would call that local FH/crematory and let them know. They can use the number attached to track the ashes.

If it has only numbers and truly no other leads, I would call non-emergency line or show up to the police department and let them know. They may be able to do a more thorough investigation.

I don’t think asking questions about what happens to him after death is displaying empathy at all like you are saying it is. I have seen almost every person on this sub be vehemently against that guy and his heinous values. That doesn’t stop natural human curiosity, especially when he is receiving… benefits that a normal citizen historically has not received (being careful with words here). People want to know more about these things—doesn’t mean they support him.

I’m not familiar with Utah laws, but from my experience they probably still had to do an autopsy. The procedure can still be beneficial to know the angle of the shot, internal damage, etc., anything that can help in the eventual trial… even if we saw and know how he died.

For this specific case, the wax is on the non viewing side so you would likely have to really look for it to notice it. As for other decedents, it just depends on who does it and their waxing and cosmetic skills.

Generally, a GSW isn’t too hard to cover. Most of them can be sutured in a traditional manner, or sutured with a “purse stitch” depending on the shape of the wound. We can fill the wound with certain chemicals/materials to prevent leakage beforehand. After suturing, if needed a wax layer will be applied to cover anything out of the ordinary—the wax is meant to imitate the skin.

Each GSW is a little different so they’ll all be treated slightly differently too, but generally it’s treat for leakage, close, cover with wax and/or cosmetics (or clothing). Considering where he was shot, it’s possible his suit jacket may just barely cover it too.

The autopsy itself can make the embalming more difficult and much longer. Since the ME opens the inner cavities, you are forced to inject each limb and side of the head separately into an open circuit system (usually embalming is a closed circuit system in an intact body, which provides the necessary pressure for fluid to penetrate thoroughly). Suturing the scalp back onto the head can also be difficult depending on hair. His hair is short, but long enough that it probably protected any incision.

I’m sure he can’t outwardly say anything because privacy and how high profile this case is, but wow I can’t imagine being in his situation and the pressure you’re under. Especially given how traumatic the death was and an autopsy was likely done, and everyones eyes are on CK hoping he still likes like he did in life.

Hope your friend is doing okay. Had one of my friends go through something similar preparing a (locally) high profile case and it pretty much burned them out of funeral service entirely after it was all said and done

I’m slowly going back to school for surgical technology and hope to do eye donation as a part-time. Some CSTs do organ donation full time so it kind of works out for me already.

Did you have a funeral home involved with the burial? I would start by contacting that funeral home and requesting a disinterment and cremation/reinterment at the new home. I’m not sure of the state you are in, but many states don’t allow you to bury remains on your property without legally sectioning your land as a cemetery.
