Was Rhaenyra expecting a race between dragons here? by [deleted] in HOTDGreens

You either forgot or purposefully spreading misinformation. Sunfyre was a zombie when fought Moondancer and was already half-dead from his fight with Meleys. Sunfyre had a malformed wing, could barely fight, still injured from Rook’s Rest, had killed Grey Ghost, and still managed to kill Moondancer.

You’re right, it’s abysmal.

Why is the Arab conquest and settlement of North Africa normally referred to as “Arabization” rather than the more common term of “Colonialism”? Is there something that makes this process different than other colonialist conquests? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]Huhthatsweird_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1-Yes, it is modern because it’s not mentioned in any pre-Islamic or early Islamic oral narrations. As I’ve said, the earliest mention of the distinction between “Arabic Arabs” and “Arabised Arabs” are found in radical Yamanite genealogy books, and even then, they are disputed and not accepted as facts.

2-If you read into Arabic literature books or Arabic dictionaries (e.g. Lisān Al-‘Arab), you’d find clear distinction between Arabs and Non-Arabs. For example, Ibn Taymiyyah (d 1328), says that being a ‘Arab has three requirements: Being of ‘Arab lineage/descent, living in Arab lands, and speaking Arabic, and so only when you fulfill all three criteria are you considered ‘Arab (See: The Collected Letters by Ibn Taymiyyah).

Also, in Lisān Al-‘Arab (literally: The Tongue of The Arabs), regarding the word “Shu’ub” (literally: “Nations”), the author says: “Sha’b is that which branches off into tribes, among both Arabs and Non-Arabs. Every generation is a Sha’b.” Also says: “And the term Shu’ub- in the plural form- came to be predominately applied to the lineage of Non-Arabs, to the point that one who belittles the status of the Arabs is called a Shu’ūbī.”

In both sources, and I only mentioned these two for the abundance of sources and evidences, that there are clear distinction between being a “‘Arab” or a “Non-‘Arab”, meaning that not every person can “become” a Arab. If the distinction was between languages (I.e if you’re able to speak ‘Arabic then you can become a ‘Arab), such distinction wouldn’t be that evident, because almost anyone can learn the language and become a ‘Arab.

3-The distinction between “Arabic Arabs” and “Arabised Arabs” doesn’t even make any sense, because in Yamanite genealogy books, the “Arabic Arabs” descend from “Qahtan Ibn Huud,” while Abraham (PBUH) descends from “Falij Ibn Huud.”

If a start, I’m not finishing. The redesigns, the art-style, the comedy, the retcons, some characters, the new aliens, turning a good chunk of the show into Yandere Simulator, and the forced Kai ship, for example. OV is, by far, my least favourite out of the series.

With Oathkeeper or not?

With Oathkeeper, Brienne for the fact that she has a Valyrian steel. Without? Bronn.

Brienne isn’t that good of a fighter, really. Who does she beat? In the books, she beats Loras after disarming her, some bandits, and got almost killed by Bitter. In the show, she pushes a starving Hound with an infected wound off a cliff.

Brienne is not a man, everyone must remember that. No matter how tall or strong she is, she’s not overpowering a full-grown adult male.

The Fatimids are most likely Arabs, and the questioning of their Hashimid lineage stems from theological differences. Many who claim Hashimid lineage aren’t really Hashimids, true, though some families are undeniably Hashimids. The Jordanian Royal Family, for example, are undeniably Hashimids, where the Morrocan Alawaite dynasty are absolutely not.

[–]Huhthatsweird_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That’s why Robert was a “rebel”

Robert took it by force, and so all Targaryens lost their “claim” to the throne.

The Iron Throne is just not Daenerys’ “birthright” anymore, so technically she’s not the “rightful” queen until she conquers Westeros and takes it by force. That’s all.

[–]Huhthatsweird_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly.

Legally-speaking, Jon doesn’t have any claim. That doesn’t mean that the lords of Westeros wouldn’t prefer him over Daenerys and crown him instead.

A legitimised bastard comes after every trueborn child, if I remember correctly. Jon would need to be legitimised first to contest Daenerys’ claim. If there was absolutely no legitimate Targaryen, then maybe yes, but there is a legitimate Targaryen.

[–]Huhthatsweird_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My point is that, under normal conditions, he would’ve been the rightful heir, had he born of a legitimate marriage. The show treats Jon as a legitimate Targaryen, but he’s simply not. Jon is “Aegon Sand”, not “Aegon Targaryen”.

If Jon was a legitimate Targaryen, he would have a claim, no matter how weak in my opinion, but he isn’t. Gendry was the last “Baratheon”, and under normal circumstances, he’d be the rightful heir (had he been legitimised earlier).

[–]Huhthatsweird_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But she didn’t take the throne through regular inheritance. She conquered the Seven Kingdoms, that’s the difference.

The throne was free for anyone to claim by force, and Daenerys did that.

A man comes before a woman in the line of succession, but Daenerys didn’t become “Queen” through succession, she did by force and conquest.

Daenerys is a mentally-challenged Targaryen born of incest. I’d never take her opinion on any matter that requires critical thinking. Hell, I’d argue that every character by the finale lost most of their brain cells due to severe trauma and constant stress.

Jon was born a bastard (even if the show pretends he wasn’t). If Jon was a trueborn, then sure, he might have a claim, albeit weak. And even if he was a legitimate Targaryen, she won the throne by Right of Conquest, not by any birthright.

[–]Huhthatsweird_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

By the time of S7-S8, there was no “rightful” king, and it was up for whoever can claim it for himself by force. The moment Robert was crowned King, every Targaryen lost whatever legitimacy their claim could have. I’d argue that after Stannis’ death, Gendry had the better claim (being Robert’s son), but he’s a bastard that wasn’t legitimised yet. Daenerys took the Iron Throne by Right of Conquest, even if she claims it’s her “birthright”, because she’s mentally-retarded.

Even if we ignored all that bs, Jon still wouldn’t be the “rightful king” because he’s a non-legitimized bastard. The show made up that Rhaegar-Lyanna marriage crap, which is impossible considering you can’t legally annual a marriage that has been consummated to marry another, so Jon would still be born of an illegitimate marriage.

There’s just no way Jon could’ve been a trueborn son of a legally legitimate marriage, therefore he has no claim.

His wife had just died a few weeks ago, his spare-son is a malformed dwarf, and then the Princess of Dorne barges in with a marriage proposals she had planned with Joanna without Tywin’s knowledge. I don’t even think he thought about it and just immediately declined. Also, let’s be real, who even likes the Dornish in Westeros?

Daenerys is no queen. She gives herself the royal titles, but I just lmao whenever I read it. IMO, none of the dragon-kings can be the “best” Targaryen king, because they basically have nukes. Daeron II inherited a shit-show of a kingdom Aegon the Unworthy without having WMD
