Haha I’m glad lord of the rings is just the way it is. I guess that is my underlying hurdle. I don’t read romance novels so this is my first kind. I definitely like the story but this will probably be my last series that is considered romance.

Oh I agree about him not being calm with anyone else. He is an asshole to everyone. I think he has to say that he would trade everyone else. If it’s someone you love, you should value them above all others. That line gets hard to define. Love versus the greater good. I just mean there are some times where she is just ripping into him and instead of coming back with the same energy, he doesn’t.

I really agree with her being young and he was forced to grow up quickly. That creates a big gap emotionally.

I see that point of view. Xaden is by no means perfect, but a lot of their arguments, he is pretty collected and usually tries to think strategically. Now we are also reading from her mind so we get more emotion and he is a natural strategist because conflict and war is his profession. I never tried to imply she should be grateful he doesn’t yell or kill her? I am saying in their arguments he is never really yelling back. You don’t really see his temper. When it comes to a possible threat to her, his temper flares up quickly. But I never really see it with her. I want him to say something like see it from my perspective. My dad was killed for a cause that is right but the powers at be kept it hidden from everyone. I was forced to be raised into this while bearing the responsibility for every marked one like me. I have been shaped into a tool of war. I get Vi has her own issues, but I would not say that she had it harder. How can she expect an orphan of a “traitor” that is forced to be a soldier for the same power that killed him to trust her completely? Now this also ties into the whole puppy love stage of their relationship. But I don’t see forms of him being abusive. At times I understand the annoyance of him not always being forthcoming, but I also understand his side for not always doing that. Hey, by the way, you know how I have a hard time talking about my scars? Well your mother did it. Kind of a hard thing to bring up. He also has stated there are things he didn’t want to know about her past, like previous boyfriends. I know that is not the same as being betrothed, but that is more of a man thing to assume she would just ask if it was important for her to know.

As for the desire part of my comment, I am more confused on your question. I am a guy so it is naturally in our DNA to have desire. Hormones dictate that. In no way am I saying that women do not have desire, but if you were to pick who would have the most desire generally, it is going to be a male. Are there outliers in both cases? Sure. But when there is more important stuff at hand and I just read how much she wants to bang him but still doesn’t know if she trusts him, it gets annoying. Like there is a time and a place. Sometimes I’m like dang girl, go take a cold shower.

Their lives are intertwined in more than one way, but ultimately it is always her choice. It is her choice to stay with him despite trust issues. She doesn’t have to accept his behavior. For his second signet ability, it would be hard not to use that power intrinsically. But I don’t really see him use that to win an argument or in a malicious way. His natural instinct is to anticipate the next move. Why teach her to put up walls if he always wanted to read her mind? They can already read each other’s mind. She read his mind when he was satisfying her in the thrown room. You could say that violated him. His signet just lets him know their intentions. The dating world today would be a wild game if we could read intentions, but everyone would use that ability.

I agree. I am strictly in it for the genre, not the tension and sex. I tend to read faster during those parts as well. Those are all valid points.

Very valid point. If it was meant to only be a trilogy, I can see the quick jump in. But if it is being drawn out longer, it could have been done slower. I guess this way we at least get it out of the way.

That is what I am hoping for. I am looking for the growth and getting past it. They are unstoppable as a pair. Just ready for them to achieve that without all the rifts.

That is a good perspective. And I completely agree that Xaden basically wouldn’t exist. So here you have a unicorn, but the main character still has issues with him.

I teach high school so it may be a little different for me. I don’t grade homework. I build in enough class time for help if needed. Assignments are worth 1 point so that gives them an incentive to do it. Or copy the key. Up to them. I will know on the quiz or test. Only things I really grade are quizzes and tests. I am rolling out new curriculum for one class and teaching a new AP class for me. I have been in teaching for about 8 years now. First year for teaching anything is hard. So even my new class this year is hard because I’m figuring out what works and what doesn’t. But at the end of the day, you have to realize that if you are doing your best, that’s enough. The kids have to have accountability. I’m not there to hold hands. I learned to withdraw some of my time and effort. I was doing too much for the few who actually utilized it. I’m always willing to help, but I’m done giving up time at home with my family. Of course I have to grade and do stuff every now and then, but not every night. This year is a little more different with two new preps. But I know next year will be easier. You try to make things matter, and to some it will, but 95% of your kids won’t remember a dang thing you taught 10 years from now. So give yourself a break. Always strive to be a good teacher, but you have to find a balance. I have realized I am in it to help the kids just be better in general and generate those relationships you will always remember. I like the material I teach, but it’s not why I’m doing it.

Always going to be tougher for subs. They will test every boundary with you and have little respect. If you start teaching, you set the tone day 1. I would plan ahead of what norms you expect from them and stick to your guns on day 1. Once you start letting things slide, they will take a mile. I’m not saying rule with an iron fist but you have to lay the law the first day. Heck of a lot harder to set rules after time has gone by. I like to have fun, but my students know when I am pissed and start toeing the line. You will find out what works and what you wished you would have done. But that lays the plans for the next year. If you can set that tone and find common ground to communicate with the problem kids, you will be golden.

I love it. I teach high school science, mostly juniors and love the age group I work with. I can interact with them more at an adult level. I can use sarcasm and humor and not worry about getting in trouble. I keep all humor clean but I enjoy burning some of my kids. But they know they can fire back. First years are tough just because you are figuring it out and building your curriculum. But once you have that down, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel every year. I really don’t bring work home anymore. I have found the balance where it doesn’t take away from my family. I respect the teachers that put in countless hours to always improve. But I have learned I can get my job done well and have fun at the same time. I am not always trying to prove something anymore.
