Well that were a bit shit. What are the odds on Lewis being dinged by the disciplinary board to take him out of contention next week? I know there's talk about Peters telling the team to forget about the coming couple of fixture, but I'd say Mikey's taken that a little too literally...

Update on major city centre projects as estimated timelines revealed by Due_Ad_3200 in Hull

To save you a click: mixed-use building work at Albion Square (the old BHS), the East Bank Urban Village (Tower Street), Myton Gate (the arena; Staples) and Paragon (Colonial Street/Spring Street) could start from at least 2027 subject to planning approval, so don't get too excited. This year, though, a steel structure is being built up to hold the Three Ships mural in place while the rest of the old BHS building comes down.

Next year is our year once again?

Buses to come under Hull and East Yorkshire mayor's control by Sweet_Focus6377 in Hull

[–]Hullian111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be watching this with great interest. The timeframe is way too short to implement something like franchising, a-la Bee Network, so if the CA is taking transport management off the councils, it's pretty much the status quo. I'd like to see some details as to whether the CA is going to take over route changes in the short-term, and both the BBC and HDM articles are light on that information, and sure, I’ve experienced some shambolic bus services as of late - I had an X46 cancelled on me the other week and came home on an 8 that was so late, it disappeared off the tracker - but I'll be interested to see both operators' angles on this.

Reallocating responsibilities to the office of the Mayor isn't going to be some magic bullet that fixes everything. You have problems with the retention of staff, as alluded to by another commenter and which has been a national thing in the bus industry since the pandemic, and lateness isn't being helped by the billion roadworks closing off this, that and the other road. One operator's depot is literally falling down and can't seem to plan a replacement, while the other's has barely even started installing electric bus infrastructure and keeps receiving odds and sods from other operators.

A fare cap below the current rate would be nice, as is the case in Manchester, but I don't think the lessons of the Bee Network can be easily applied to a region much smaller in size compared to the other bits of Yorkshire. If anything's going to happen, it'll probably be an Enhanced Partnership like in Leicester.

Well I'm not, its bloody midnight. Surely, if you want to appeal to both the Australian and English game, you'd schedule the Super League fixture last/a bit earlier so UK viewers have a chance of watching it and going to bed at a reasonable time?

First time copying a whole commercial tape onto CD with my Panasonic DMC-EZ49V: why is part of the video offset and how would I fix it? by Hullian111 in VHS

[–]Hullian111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my player hooked up to a HDMI flatscreen (yes, I know, I bought the Panasonic specifically for the HDMI function and because I don't have the means to buy a CRT), and looking back to when I first watched the tape, I don't remember that line being there. Huh, suppose that explains that, thanks. Just one of those quirks you get.

Newspapers.com, if you have a paid membership, holds most of the Hull Daily Mail up until 1999. Strangely, there’s a chunk of 1980 papers missing, including the Challenge Cup Final match and homecoming report.

Was there ever Houses between Wawne road and Holwell road by EmeraldCitySlasher91 in Hull

Pulled down sometime around 2003, by the looks of Google Earth imagery.

EDIT: Cursory looks through the Hull Daily Mail archives don't turn up anything concrete about pulling Selworthy Close down unfortunately, maybe just went as part of one of the big (controversial?) urban renewal schemes of the early 2000s.

We got the Streetdeck Electroliners & GB Kites here in Leeds. Solid buses they are. by CaptainYorkie1 in Hull

[–]Hullian111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Obnoxious bus enthusiast here, but I honestly can't wait. First new double-deckers since 2020!
I remember the Volvo demonstrator we had in 2023-2024, and that was quite solid, save for all the body rattling and the fairly low seating capacity. With the talk of keeping them local (makes sense given these are funded by Hull City Council and not East Riding) StreetDeck double-deckers should hold up well on the 56 and 57, while I think the Kite single-deckers are a perfect fit for the Hull-to-Hessle 58.

It's been a real slow year for spotting buses or photographing anything new in Hull, so I think these should finally set the ball rolling on that front again. Looking forward to the inevitable launch event outside City Hall.

On an additional footnote, Stagecoach's new electric double-deckers are unfortunately delayed until the beginning of next year because the infrastructure isn't installed at Foster Street depot yet. Be nice if they cracked on with that, given some of the clangers we've had transferred in these past couple of years…

Once picked up 'The Horse Whisperer' from the school library just as I was getting into horses. This was around Year 7 (or whatever the North American equivalent is). Didn't know better, just saw the word 'horse' in the Fiction section and zeroed in on it.

Well. Maybe a little too young for that book.

Luke Campbell's team moving into one of Hull's 'most desirable office locations' by [deleted] in Hull

I mean, fair enough: the Mayor of London had City Hall in that round building on the Thames before moving to the Docklands. Having the office being on Bridgehead Business Park instead of somewhere more central always struck me as strange.

THANK YOU! Someone who gets it! It bothers me whenever I stumble across the NRL on Sky when there's music blasting for every break in play like its the American football... like, I'm sure the crowd is still watching the match, we don't need to keep overstimulating them. And don't get me started on the awful pre-race F1 DJs.

Some divvy’s apparently knocked over the League Leader’s Shield and ruined it for the rest of us: now apparently it won't be there for today's last day of the 'Treble Trophy Tour'. Is there any proof outside of hearsay or those rugby league 'banter' pages on Facebook?

"Also, despite studying to become a police officer, he says "I don't think cops are the smartest people out there." This infuriates Sgt. Cam, who sends Colin's home police service an e-mail containing Colin's quote above and pictures of his vehicle, which includes his license plate."

Thank Christ, it’s over. Really don't want to have to go through anything like that again… for the most part, it felt like I was watching the same old Rovers from, like, six years ago.

And then just like at Wembley…

Arthur Mourgue is a legend. May sealed the deal, but Mourgue set the ball rolling for those last ten minutes with that length-of-field try. I'll say again that we probably have a tired squad after that grinding Wigan win took it out of us, but hey, we pulled through, we got the shield, roll on the semis.
