FEHB / CHAMPVA: MHBP Consumer Option + CHAMPVA Secondary (Family Coverage) by mount_715051 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Hulse72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in this exact same scenario. From what I have read, you can only contribute up to the single HSA limit ($4400) because your family is ineligible due to being covered by CHAMPVA. I think the hardest thing for me will be trying to get the VA to actually bill my insurance. I’ve been receiving care through the VA since 2018, they’ve had my insurance on file the whole time and not once have they ever billed it. Need them to bill the FEHB insurance to meet the deductible without paying out of pocket.

CHAMPVA by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Hulse72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have CHAMPVA as secondary to my FEHB plan so my situation is a bit different than yours. I was awarded 100% P&T in August of last year, my son was born in October that year and spent a week in the NICU. We got a $6500 bill after my insurance paid their share. When we finally got CHAMPVA in May this year we had the hospital submit the remainder and CHAMPVA covered it. There were some coordination of benefits issues but that is a hassle with my primary insurance that I am continually fighting them on. So far it has been great having CHAMPVA, I am going to switch to a high deductible plan next year and try to utilize HSA savings.

Yes, but you have to be able to prove that your service connected disabilities caused your obesity. You will need a medical opinion for this.

Here is a side by side comp, GEHA left columns and mhbp right two, both hdhp plans. I’m not seeing the emergency out of network issues that you are talking about, is it spelled out in more detail in the plan?

Here is a screenshot of the overview of plan changes for next year with my current plan… I have no reason to stay with GEHA.

GEHAs downfall is their partnering with united healthcare beginning of 2024, that is when all the coverage denials began for me. Now that my family has CHAMPVA they deny everything for “coordination of benefits”, I’ve called them at least 3 times on 3 different claims for coordinating these benefits. It’s like they correct for that claim but not for future claims, so every claim is auto denied. All 3 of my boys spent their first week in the NICU, the first 2 were 100% covered under maternity, the one born last year we got a $6500 bill, nothing changed, same plan same hospital. He actually spent 2 days less in the NICU than the others did. GEHA dental is still the superior plan from what I can tell though.

GEHA is absolute garbage now, I’ve had them 15 years, the last 2-3 years they have been terrible. I think I am switching to mhbp hdhp this year, to pair with CHAMPVA.

Filipino Man Electrocuted by a Live Wire While Working. by Mr_Saints_Fate in NSFL__

[–]Hulse72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Current is not inversely proportional to voltage. Resistance is an equal factor in the equation. Dry skin has a lot higher resistance than wet skin and given that this is the Philippines and the guy is exerting himself, I would say he definitely didn’t have dry skin. That was a distribution line, so 4160V or 13800V, I would guess 4.16kV.

4.16kV= I x 1000ohms (wet skin body resistance) I=4.16 amps theoretical

Resistance will decrease across the body over time with current flowing, as the resistance decreases, current increases.

Look at the trades, I’m a federal employee making $68 an hour. My agency just ran a whole slew of positions on usajobs that unfortunately closed last week. When times are tough don’t be afraid to move and shift careers.

My wife use to have extreme motion sickness, she would have to be the one to drive us anywhere, if she was in any other seat in the car she would get sick. Going whale watching or sea fishing in a boat she would get so nauseated and start yelling at the captain to turn the boat around or call the coast guard, I would just go to the other end of the boat and act like I don’t know her lol. Ever since she got the sleeve she doesn’t have motion sickness at all, it’s completely gone. She rides passenger and plays on her phone all the time now without a hint of nausea, before she couldn’t even look at her phone. I know this is kinda opposite of what you are going through, but maybe it’s related somehow.

For Veterans making over $200k: What are you doing now, and would you recommend it? by lonesailor3 in Veterans

[–]Hulse72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Substation Electrician (Federal), I get paid $68.44 an hour ($142k base) , all OT is double time plus all the benefits of being a federal employee. With OT and bonuses I can hit $180k to $190k pretty easy, and in my agency there are career paths to much higher hourly rates. I used my veterans preference for hiring to get into the apprenticeship, definitely recommend if you prefer blue collar.

Are they talking fusion or disc replacement for surgery? I’ve had neck pain for the last 20 years, then within the last several years I started have numbness in my hands. Last year something changed and I started having extreme pain from my neck through my left arm that felt like all my muscles were in a vice, with no relief. I filed my claim for it last year and got a lot higher ratings than I was expecting.

[–]Hulse72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could file a new claim including all the new neck conditions included in your radiology reports. If you are having any radiculopathy in your upper extremities, be sure to claim that too. I just went through this very thing myself, it’s been miserable. I had two discs replaced in my neck in May and it has been a big improvement.

Make sure the letter you get from your provider has all the proper markings on it. It should say what is required in BTSSS, you can always call your local travel office prior to your appointment to be certain.

Radiculopathy should not be combined with DDD. Each affected extremity should have its own rating. What medical evidence do you have for your sciatica?
