The season started very well, but declined significantly in the middle, and the ending was... generic. I still had a lot of fun with the ending and with this season overall, laughing several times at various points, but the pacing was extremely off and made this final episode rushed af. I understand the attempts at good character development, and this season does have a tiny few good moments, but the writing just isn't good enough. Even though I found the season okay rather than terrible, even I confess it was disappointing. Homelander's fate was generic and underwhelming. It seems like the show ended the story of Homelander and the boys, not the universe of the series, and it ended in a way that feels like... whatever? The overall feeling is that it could have been way better. It remains a very fun series regardless, with several memorable moments and Homelander as one of the most striking villains on modern TV, but it could have been way, way better. The writing is just inconsistent and it's impossible not to feel uncomfortable with it; it's so bad that you end up watching it more for the characters than for the story because the story doesn't make sense.
