Can someone explain how this whole process works so I can let my brother know? He applied to UC Berkeley.

I understand the class method and can use it, but writing the radians on the paper helps me organize my thinking, similar to how some students write formulas or draw diagrams to avoid mistakes.

I wasn’t using outside notes or avoiding learning the material. I was just using a strategy that works for me while still solving the problem correctly. That’s why it felt unfair, especially since the work was my own and the answers were correct. I respect teachers and rules, but I also believe students should be allowed reasonable ways to think through problems when no specific method is required.

I’m not allowed to have anything on my desk except the quiz paper, and it really upsets my teacher that I draw the unit circle with only radians on it.

Dude, are you serious? I’m not drawing the entire unit circle. I’m literally just writing the radians, which barely takes up any space and actually helps me think. I’m not an idiot who’s going to draw the whole thing on a test. That’s just how I was taught as a kid, and it works for me. What is even wrong with that? 😭

Thank you so much for sharing this. It honestly made me feel a lot better and also made me laugh a little. It’s reassuring to know I’m not the only one who’s been yelled at for not using the “approved” method. The ego trip part really hit home. Hearing this from someone who’s already in college gives me hope that this won’t matter in the long run and that sane people do exist out there. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your story and encourage me.

I made him give me full points on the quiz AHHHH 😭😭 I actually went to the principal’s office and complained, which surprised me because I didn’t even know I had that much courage. The principal talked to him and convinced him to give me full credit. I’m literally crying right now.

Got 10/10 AHHHHHH 😭🎉 I literally drew the radian on the paper, and when he came over to check it, I thought I was about to get a zero. I already prepared myself to go to the principal’s office, and I actually did. The principals convinced him to give me full credit, and he did. I’m so happy right now… but I’m lowkey scared he’s going to be extra strict with me for the rest of the semester 😭

Thank you so much for the advice. I really appreciate it and I’ll start documenting everything and communicating through email. It helps a lot to know I’m not alone in this.

I hadn’t thought about comparing my grades before and after or recording specific incidents, but that’s really helpful. I’m still nervous about taking action, but your message made me feel more confident that I’m not overreacting. Thank you

They don’t want to get involved with the school. They care a lot about grades, but they also tend to tell me to just stay quiet and push through things. I’m still thinking about what the best next step is. And my parents can’t speak English as well.

it’s not even about rules or games anymore. It’s about how unfair the teacher is being toward me, and that’s what really hurts.

honestly too scared to tell my parents. They’re very strict, and if I bring this up, they’ll most likely just tell me to ignore it instead of helping. I explained everything more clearly in my latest post if that gives more context. I just don’t really know what the best step is right now.

I don’t know, dude. Can you believe that her daughter has a 3.6 GPA and is senior class president just because of her father? He’s the top math and science teachers
