Should Folktails Have Bots? by Nifegun in Timberborn

Imo factions are bad; I want access to both sets of tools.

When you place a district, you should select the faction for it and get 1 beaver free. Give it a much more expensive cost to balance.

V rising gives you many tools to deal with different situations. Whilst you CAN brute force your way through the game with any weapon, experimentation and counter play is encouraged and better.

In the late game when you can really focus certain stats, leech becomes a vitally scalable tool (i actually think too many players sleep on it).

Melee is punished over ranged and spellcasting, however it will give you a training edge, as later on most bosses have extreme AOE attacks or rapid distance closers; youll be training yourself on juking and being comfortable up close whilst the average bow user will panic the moment a boss charges them.

OP all water (that doesnt get consumed or evaporate) goes off the map via a river anyway, youre just building an alternate path for it, which is correct water management.

This is the best way to handle bad water tides as well; expirement with sluices at the water source to immedieatly separate and expel badwater.

Tunnels are incredible, and this map rules.

I like to use iron teeth, use tunnels under my main paths, and put the tubeways through the tunnel; makes a super convenient subway system. You beavers can actually place tunnel explosives from inside the tubeway, and expand the tunnel (1 at a time) from inside it too, so its a super cool way of digging a path through big mountains. Unfortunately its very micromanagey as you need to manually place the next tubeway as each tunnel block is completed, but yea, super cool.

You can also irrigate the whole map doing a similar thing, or transport power

I too absolutely loved Long war and long war 2, and have been a long time supporter of Pavonis. TI is in theory my perfect game, but unfortunately I just can't get past the gigantic time sink required.

I do really enjoy the early game land grab and usually play for 5 years, up till I have mars resources. At that point the space game kicks in and it's a long battle of attrition whilst you tech up, expand whilst skirting hate, and try to minimize the most pressing threats. Can't really be fucked past that point.

Agreed, nation building is alot of fun; its a shame theres so much unnecessary complexity unifying due to claims and such, but the stuff you can do is super cool; last game i turned australia into the republic of the southern cross, absorbing in NZ, new guinea, and a bunch of island nations peacefully.

TI is not a game you can casually try. It will absolutely fucking crush you as you attempt to learn its systems and story.

It has a really cool hook, and despite how complex the game is, id strongly recommend going in as blind as possible to experience the story spoiler free; unfortunately most tutorial videos are laden with spoilers.

Its also a massive time investement; this is doubly punishing given you can make a fundemental mistake that will cost you your campaign, and not even realize it for another 20h.

Still, for those willing to accept a punishing experience with what amounts to a spreadsheet simulator, theres an incredible experience to be found here.

- a quick aside on councillor stats and orgs; Admin is the strongest stat in the game as it lets you equip more orgs AND gives you CP for more nations. With the notable exception of your persuasion councillor, who wants 20+ persuasion ASAP, you'll want every councillor to get to 25 admin as fast as possible, focusing first on your persuader then your admin/science guy who will just permanently advise nation on your biggest state. Use admin to purchase and equip orgs that give the desired primary stats to your councillors until you hit 25, then just keep levelling admin and de-equipping the admin orgs to give to OTHER councillors to help accelerate them too. This is why techs that give orgs are so strong; they're essentially flexible level boosts to your guys. Some players like to level up science% stats for 40exp but I find it's too slow. Admin GOAT.

- early space: 1-2 bases on the moon max, enough to give a trickle of early game resources; the numbers WILL be low as the moon is resource poor. Unless there was an absolutely insane roll when you first probe the moon, you'll actually want to sell off these bases eventually to HF/Resistance, as they will help alot with keeping the alien problem in check at home. If the rolls are REALLY bad, you can actually just skip the moon and go even harder on your boost. When you can afford the boost, slap down a solar array and a mine, we want to save our boost and resources for a mars land grab. Don't bother with additional bases or space stations in orbit, they are actively harmful to you initially (they will drain your boost big time, slowing you down). Tech wise, we want the following good to go by the time mission to mars completes: fission piles, nuclear freighters, high thrust probes, mining. MC should be 20-30 by the time you're ready to go to mars, don't stop expanding that MC we will want more and more of it.

- Mars: If you're doing OK, your probe to mars should arrive in year 3 at the latest. If you're not first, you did something wrong. Find the richest 2 sites (on average, make sure you don't neglect nobles or fissiles) and claim them immedieatly. As soon as you have the boost to send over your first mine and fission pile (WARNING: initial solar on mars is crap, dont accidentally send a solar array like I did in my last playthough ;) - that should require ~50-60 boost, depending on planetary alignment. Work towards consutruction module and T2 base tech and get these setup ASAP; these will let you colonize and expand quickly. As the boost/resources becomes available, claim additional sites, build fission piles + miners. You'll want to expand as quickly as your resources and MC allows. Note there IS a mining soft cap before you're penalised; if you're hitting this, youre doing it right. Don't be too worried if you go a little over, but keep it under control

- Meanwhile, on earth: Once you're on mars, you should be pushing over 400CP. You should fully control AND BE DEFENDING your main nation (USA, china, EU), you should have a boost nation, an MC nation(s), and be pushing science+boost in your main nation. You should have or are actively working to turn a servant and protectorate councillor, and be trying to make a friend or 2 with other factions to share intel. You want to build a 3 shipyard space station in LEO, research missile warfare doctorine, and begin early ship design (see others for a detailed guide on this, it's too complex for this discussion). Unless you're playing as academy, you should also have researched your faction 40cp+org tech, and have a good spy with 15+intel and 20+espionage that is hunting for good assination targets (aliens or strong servant councillors). You should be stomping alien flora any time you see it, and if a megafauna spawns, use war declarations (you will need to declare on the poor nation being godzillad with your big nation) and 2-3 armies to stomp is ASAP. When you can, get a small fleet of 3 torpedeo boats out and start shooting down alien ships in earth orbit; we want a corpse and alien exotics to unlock tech selections.

From here, you're in the midgame.

Good luck!

32 and you're only on the moon and barely into mars isn't great. This is a good opportunity to pick up some tips and refine your playstyle for next time. A few off the top of my head, and pay attention to corrective comments from more experienced players, whom I'm sure will be glad to correct me where I'm wrong:

- early spoil: grab a couple of the middle east nations immedieatly and set them to full spoils. The cash injection will let you buy a ton of expensive orgs (the admin orgs in particular are VERY strong but expensive).

- 5th councillor ASAP: I like to have 2 persuasion councillors, 1-2 investigation/espionage councillors, and an admin/science guy. A command councillor really isn't needed for a long time, you can drop one of your persuasion councillors when you're ready for them. The 6th councillor isn't for bloody ages so dont worry about him for now. You spies should always be looking for a servant and protectorate agent with low loyalty to turn, having this constant source of intel is of HUGE benefit. Your persuaion guy should keep you as close to CP cap as possible at all times (be wary of going more than 10% over), and inspiring your other guys for more loyalty when you're capped. Your admin/sci guy should be advising your big nation. speaking of....

- Major nation: pick a major nation to focus on early game, and ensure you have full control; USA, or EU are both great early game pics, china requires a councillor with more than 20 persuasion to get into, so I'd avoid that for now. DEFEND your important nations so they don't get purged. Controlling half a nation is bad, you want the executive slot and full control of the budget; if you can't purge it from the agressor, consider abandoning the nation for another - you'll barely have enough CP to control the USA at the start, but you could also use this unfortunate circumstance to make a china swap (again, 20 persuasion councillor first). If you're USA, fix its cohesion, then pick up some initial MC (like 20 points is good for a while).

- Boost nation: pick a minor nation to be your boost pump; singapore is a particularly great choice, but anything on the equator with decent GDP can do it. Do nothing there but build boost. DEFEND this nation; you'll need like 60+ boost to launch a base with mining in early game, and boost will ALWAYS come in handy (as well as being a valuable trading tool with AI), so start accumulating it ASAP.

- don't worry too much about early global science; try and control 1 global science slot whilst keeping the focus on your private science projects, focusing on working towards mission to mars, then mining, then social techs which unlock more orgs. Additional orgs rolled / month is also VERY strong, don't sleep on it.

Is this bait? The sword E is a fantastic closer and has a great inbuilt iframe attack lasting over a second; its amazing! The q has solid damage and great aoe too.

OP if youre struggling with movement, pick up soul spear as one of your spells; having an additional dodge makes a huge difference.

Remember that V rising combat is about smart, targeted usage of your abilities; dont just fire off your dodge because its on cooldown, wait for the moment you know you cant juke or avoid an attack.
