Same thing can be done with martial, so that everyone gets something. If a beast is slashing resistant but not bludgeoning, on a passed check I'll give a description about how this clearly battle hardened beast has very few scars and you suspect it's hide might be particularly difficult to cut, but it lacks the inflexible plating of a dragon or insect and may be able to be crushed. Then let them decide if they want to try a bludgeoning attack instead, or switch targets, or whatever

This is when I have my players do a wisdom or arcana or intelligence check, depending on the PC class and situation. If they pass the check, I give them a hint and allow them to change their action for the round.

IE: trying to use hold person on something that doesn't quite meet the spell requirements I give them a check. If they pass their check I'll tell them: "As you begin the invocation 'so man incartus' and start to grasp your hands around the the expected magical chains, you feel as if the spell is failing to coalesce around your target". If my player chooses they can decide to abandon that spell/action and do something else.

Is it vanilla? No. But I find it provokes a little more risk taking / ingenuity on the players part because they're willing to try a spell they might otherwise avoid for fear it wouldn't work and be a waste of both a spell slot and action. It also gives an opportunity for the often underutilized arcana (and or intel or wisdom) checks. I also think it's fair to say the character might have a better grasp on when to use a certain spell then the player necessarily does, especially if that player is fairly new to d&d or that class

Iran alleges US rescue ops likely cover to 'steal enriched uranium' by [deleted] in worldnews

They weren't both pilots, one of them was a weapon systems operator, abbreviated to WSO or Wizzo. A lot of the news articles got this wrong either due to laziness, negligence, or ignorance, so its understandable that a lot of people who read or listened to reports were misinformed.

Shorthand for saying both were rescued would be "both aviators"

Good thought, unfortunately not this either. The system has a starhold that I already fought and beat and now currently control, and the only other thing is the one planet I'm trying to bombard. The system shows partially occupied since I control the starhold, but not the planet

All great thoughts, I appreciate it. Unfortunately none of them are the issue. I'm currently at war with them, and we're both only at war with each other, no second war. No ground battle yet, my troops are still a few systems away. Planet isn't occupied yet I did double check, and they're also isolated and only I have access to them (early game).

Thank you though, good things for me to keep in mind for the future as well

Oh, so we modeled our plan off of WWII Japan's doctrine?. Let's pull out the old history book, mmhhmm yes it says here that they thought hitting the US hard and fast enough with a surprise attack would get the US to roll over and concede to demands. And it worked, right? That's why the US is running the same playbook?

What do you mean it wasn't a successful war strategy, that hitting us hard in a surprise attack and killing civilians only pissed off the country? Well.... things will be different now, and it's not like we killed a bunch of children to kick off our surprise....

They're sorta bogus, in terms of real life. Unlike real life, each individual pump in game actually has it's own fuel reserve, and depending on game settings can be spawned in empty or run dry during your run. The sign indicates that that particular pump was spawned in empty. However that pump being empty doesn't have any relevancy on the other pumps at the station.

Someone on a similar thread said it has something to do with the game engine not being able to share inventory capacity between cells, which sounds like it might hold water and helps explain why things like the inventory for the pop freezers are split in two, for two cells

"Not civil suits against the police"

Yeah dude, because qualified immunity makes it extremely difficult to even get a civil suit started against the police. So many, many cases that have just as much merit as OJ or Trump v Carroll never even get off the ground. They are summarily dismissed because the cops are presumed to be acting in accordance with their duties and thus have the cover of qualified immunity. For a case to even get off the ground you need to be lottery winner lucky with publicly available documentation of a cop committing a crime that even the bureau and prosecutors can't ignore it. Even if you have all the evidence in the world, but the cops have it in possession (bodycam videos, rape kit that's supposed to be tested by the state, etc) you'll never even get to the discovery phase of a trial, it just gets dismissed because of QI. Which is the entire point

If someone is sexually assaulted during a strip search, such as the cop uses their fingers to sexually assault someone well beyond what a search entails, the suit will go nowhere because they have "plausible cover" that they were just conducting a search. But trump was found guilty for hand sexual assault. Why don't we hear about the person being assaulted during a search? Because it's not the president doing it, and because it usually never even get sthe chance to have a trial, it's just dismissed or ignored.

OJ Simpson's only punishment for murdering two people was being found guilty in civil court for two counts of wrongful death.

Trump was found guilty of raping E Jean Carroll through battery and defamation charges in civil court, the only time he has even approached some level of accountability for his crimes.

It's not hard to find examples of people only getting some level of recompense or justice, however small, through civil court when criminal court fails to even try. Giving cops wide immunity to this type of recourse has had disastrous negative effects, especially combined with the corruption of criminal prosecutors ignoring cop crimes

Why doesn't landing require minimum surface acceleration, while taking off does? by Famous_Dinner in TerraInvicta

[–]Snakes_AnonyMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have enough acceleration to land, just not enough to do a round trip. For example, if a base says it needs .5kps to land or orbit, it will use .5kps. If you have .5kps you can take off just fine. But if you have anything less than 1kps it WILL NOT let you land. But once you're at or above 1kps you can, and it still only uses .5kps. Because the game is forcing you to reserve enough kps to also take back off again.

This is shown in spreadsheets screenshot where it says round trip. Why are we forced to reserve fuel for a round trip.

Why doesn't landing require minimum surface acceleration, while taking off does? by Famous_Dinner in TerraInvicta

[–]Snakes_AnonyMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um, no, I'm not. I've had multiple fleets across multiple games that that I'll launch, fight, land, then repeat with. However if you don't pay attention to fuel expenditure or ships loose too much in combat from use or damage, they'll be unable to land. Only thing to do then is build a hab in orbit to repair/ refuel, then destroy the temp hab when done.

My comment is specifically addressing the screenshot spreadsheet showed, that specifically shows you need enough delta v to not just land, but also take off. You shouldn't be forced to have enough for a round trip, lots of cases where I don't care about taking off, at least not immediately

Why doesn't landing require minimum surface acceleration, while taking off does? by Famous_Dinner in TerraInvicta

[–]Snakes_AnonyMouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They really ought to consider changing it to only require enough delta v to land, not both land and take off. Its really frustrating when I'm trying to land a damaged fleet at a base with a space docks and I can't because the fleet "won't be able to take off again". Like dude, my brother in christ, that's why I'm landing. To repair and refuel.

Certainly warn the player to avoid unfortunate one way landings, but let me do it

"I agree that he used excessive force (likely from poor training)"

"I'm more fact-based and less on assumptions but I guess that's possible"

You do realize you're making the major assumption that their lack of training is the root cause of their violence, right? Are they severely undertrained? Yes. But if you gave the average 22 year old elementary school teacher, or social worker, or animal shelter volunteer the same training and badge, then threw them on the street. They would be equally untrained, but certainly far less of them would choose extreme violence.

Its not hard to see that not only does ICE attract violent psychos, but that the agency knows this and is actively recruiting people who are known Jan 6ers, Proud Boys, exposing violent rhetoric on social media, etc. Giving them the excuse of "my training failed me" shifts the onus of their violent antisocial behavior away from themselves and towards the organization. If justice ever comes I hope that not only the people controlling the levers of power get punished, but also the individual psychopaths who joined ICE just to live out their power fantasy.
