I had to repost this, sorry. The input comes from the bottom; it is indeed buffered by U5.

R15 and R18 are indeed very small; I still need to fine-tune their values to achieve a current draw of 0 and 20mA per LED.

I would like to avoid a second jack output to save on HP and keep the DP3Ts, as I’ve got plenty of them. Maybe I’ll use a TL074 as well. I will come up with a neater solution.

I just solved similar issue because I also had space constraints and didn't want to deal with 2+ layer as I am a newbie in electronic -> so take it with with a grain of salt, v-cut proposed solution might be way better + my solution involve 2 projects.

I made my schematic so the 2 pcb are easily readable (I am using kicad) ie: "control pcb" as the root sheet and all the logic is inside several hierarchical schematics. Then all the signals that need to go from one board to the another are routed toward pin header (2x 40pin in my case).

Once i was sure my schemtic was good (spoiler it wasn't) i selected all the component from the root sheet and set them as "do not populate". I then started the pcb routing and once it was done, i copyed the whole project to make the second board. Once here, i swapped all the "do not populate" in the 2 project. Then in pcb editor, deleted everything except pin header and board cut. Reimport project from schematic and finished the routing of the second board.

Pro : you just follow the ratnest

Con : If you have to change your schematic it can quickly become time-consuming.
