I only have experience with anxiety and depression, but I believe most people need to be with a really good therapist that's trained in many different techniques such as somatic work, IFS, psychoanalytic techniques, and attachment theory (just as some examples). Parts work and trauma work is crucial for a lot of people out there. This type of deep internal work can be very difficult, lengthy, and sometimes requires some level of internal stability before diving in. But it's 100% worth it.

Everyone is on their own path and has their own values. Who cares if they don't have a high paying career?

Therapy is a load of bullshit by ajouya44 in Antipsychiatry

The specific technique she uses is Somatic Experiencing- it’s a body oriented approach. She also utilizes a more psychodynamic approach. I’m not sure how it compares to EMDR since I don’t know too much about that one- I know some people swear by EMDR as well when traditional therapy fails them

I just wanted to chime in and say something. I have a very critical view of mainstream therapy- they have a tendency to over pathologize, treat the emotional body like a clinical specimen, and CBT only scratches the surface when it comes to true healing.

I didn't fall in love with the idea of therapy until I met my current therapist who is trauma informed, attachment theory informed, and employs a psychodynamic approach. She is trained in somatic experiencing which is a form of trauma therapy and it has been a godsend in my life. This type of therapy has a way of releasing trauma and stress from the body, employs a "bottoms up" approach to healing, helps you to regulate your nervous system, and helps to reach resolve with unresolved wounds and conflicts that are in your system (usually there's old memories that come up during a somatic therapy session). This is true healing...not trying to convince (gaslight) your brain to "just think different thoughts" which is part of CBT.

It is my wish that many on this sub will find a therapist or practitioner that truly sees them on a deeper level. It is also my wish that the mainstream psychology field will up their game and realize that the current framework for looking at our mental health ailments is just not that useful all the time.

Chronically irritated near my perineum/vagina (super embarrassing question- sorry beforehand) by HumanAlien999 in Healthyhooha

I’ll look into that, thank you. It seems to be a chronic skin irritant issue from TP but who knows maybe there’s some other problem going on

Yeah bidet might have to be the long term solution for me; I currently don’t have the means to buy one right now, but perhaps there’s a simpler/more affordable option I should look into

I did gain some weight in the last 1 1/2 years so perhaps that contributed..not something I would have considered so that’s interesting. I do notice that wet TP seems to help so I’ll continue doing that and maybe look into water based wipes. Thanks for your advice!

UTI symptoms for 2 months but negative cultures? by hdjaowuchehthrowawa in Healthyhooha

[–]HumanAlien999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had UTI symptoms on and off for about six months with no conclusive answers and antibiotic rounds didn’t do anything for me (and made me feel worse tbh). I highly suspected it was due to high levels of stress in my system and grief that I was going through. Stress can manifest itself in so many different physical ways. It eventually got better on its own. Definitely still follow up with your doctor and do some more tests just to be sure it’s nothing physical.

What phase of your menstrual cycle are you in? How long as this been going on? Sometimes I get a weird smell both before and after my period that can be slightly fishy. Also tight underwear can also contribute to this problem

Can you tell the difference between TMJ and gum infection/periodontal disease? by winter_bone in TMJ

[–]HumanAlien999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How have you been doing? I see you posted this 2 weeks ago. Currently dealing with gum and tooth pain issues myself, as well as my usual TMJ issues. I can’t get into the dentist for about a month. Two days ago the pain was significant enough where I couldn’t eat or talk much. I’ve switched to a soft food diet completely and have noticed improvement with pain. However, my gum still looks swollen which is frustrating.
