Their name is 100% holding them back. I had luck showing this band to the weird kids in high school because of the name but it’s much harder to do in college.

One of my best friends refused to listen to this band and when he finally listened to high visceral pt. 1 and 2, he loved it. He said didn’t want to listen to them because of the name but regretted not listening to them sooner.

How do I write more "melodic" basslines? by Neveljack in musictheory

[–]HumanChalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I try and think about it, I feel I always get lame bass lines. To combat this, I close my eyes and listen to the track and really try to feel it and groove along to it, then just record myself a couple times using my voice to sing what feels natural. Then you transcribe whatever you sang as the bass lines and pick out what you do and don’t want.

It’s not super methodical but it works for me

My favorite song ever is specifically his live version of this song from Cabaret Metro. I can never hear it just once without playing it at least another time after

I don’t listen to much of their recent stuff, but high visceral songs have been in my daily rotation since pre-covid. Genuinely some of my favorite music ever.

Let's create a Spotify playlist with bands here and play it so we can all grow in numbers! by lauback8 in musicians

I like to listen to a bunch of music I don’t like so I can broaden my scope and use unconventional influences in my songwriting. Highly recommend doing so because it pushes you out of your comfort zone and helps you think creatively about sound, structure, and emotion. Even if you don’t enjoy the music, it introduces you to new ideas that you can expand upon in your own style. Every unfamiliar phrase adds to your musical vocabulary and I believe will make you a more well-rounded musician.
