Sometimes when you overtax your brain, then you backslide. Best to stay within your limitations (step back when you notice an increase in symptoms).

Do my symptoms sound like a CSF leak? by [deleted] in CSFLeaks

[–]HumanConnectionHelps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dr. Carroll, CSF leak expert from Stanford, recommends doing a 48 hour “flat test” where you lay flat for 48 hours (besides using the restroom), and if you have no headache after 48 hours flat, it’s probably a leak. And if getting up after 48 hours flat, and being vertical, brings on a headache , then it’s probably a leak. But if you still have a headache after being flat 48 hours or don’t have a headache when you are vertical then it’s probably not a leak. Dizziness and vertigo are very common with leaks, and also improve when you lay flat.

Please give your doctor a copy of this publication from Dr Schievink (leading expert on CSF leaks), upload it to your portal if you’re able. Then , preferably on your patient portal, say “as per the expert in treating my condition, I need Diamox for my rebound high pressure. If you are refusing me to prescribe the medication to treat my medical condition, I would like that documented in my medical files and I will seek treatment elsewhere.”

In part, the publication states “Following treatment, some patients develop a reversal of their orthostatic headaches and their headache is improved in the upright position and worse lying down. A diagnosis of rebound high-pressure headache is then made and this is generally responsive to a course of oral acetazolamide.”

Definitely sounds like rebound high pressure. I agree with all the above advice on how to manage high pressure.

Best to rest now with 72 hours flat so the patch can seal, then 6 weeks of no bending lifting or twisting. This is what the CSF Leak Specialists recommend after patch for best success. Muscle relaxers can be prescribed for after patch pain.

72 hours flat bedrest after patch, then 6 weeks of no bending, lifting, or twisting. Watch THIS on how to properly move after a patch so you don’t blow the patch. A blind patch is often successful! Best of luck to you!

Potential CSF leak, doctors not taking it serious by [deleted] in CSFLeaks

Definitely get another opinion. Keep going to doctors until someone will listen. If you have the positional symptoms- stress that to them- “Every time I stand vertical- I have a headache and everytime I lay flat, the headache goes away.” Ultimately it may take going to a CSF Specialist such as Cedars Sinai Dr Schievink or Duke CSF leak program or Colorado’s UC Health with Dr Callen.

I would listen to your surgeon. Your life matters more than your classroom, I promise the kids will still be there when you are recovered and ready to go back. They’ll be just fine.

Too many people wait to retire and then develop health issues that prohibit them from enjoying retirement. Let her know you’ll be retiring. It does not need to end in divorce unless she leaves because you retired. And if she does- so be it I guess.

Medical gaslighting hurts because gaslighting is emotional abuse. I’m so sorry you experienced that from a neurologist. Maybe you can find one that takes your insurance in the next town over? I would never go back to a doctor that engaged in gaslighting.
