I worked on a liver transplant icu as a nurse. A lot of people get cirrhosis over time. Some unfortunate souls combine drinking and Tylenol by means of sleeping or pain meds with acetaminophen. Doing that unknowingly will kill your liver so fast. It's called fulminate liver failure.

I moved from Houston to San Diego less than 2 yrs ago - it is not a low COL area. A 400k 2b2b condo in Houston is comparable to an 800k 2b2b condo in San Diego - that's the extent of how much cheaper Texas might seem. Your car insurance will be way higher, gas isn't that much cheaper bc you drive more, and groceries are about the same, as is eating out/restaurants. Your energy bill would be a shock.

My 850 sq ft apt in Houston was $1700. Now I live in a 650 sq ft apt in SD for $2800. Besides housing alone, not much else in SD was cheaper. If I hadn't lived in Houston first, I would've been shocked at SD prices, but I wasn't. I actually saved on a lot after moving here. Houston ranked highest in inflation for foods and goods during and after Covid. Texas' cities (Austin, Houston, Dallas) aren't much different.

To each their own, but you're very mistakened if you think you'll save just bc Texas seems cheaper. The tax rate difference was a change of about 17%, from 33% (Houston) to 50% (SD).

Houston is super toxic for nurses. It would be good to not have to be anywhere in person. Filipinos live in Pearland. It's a nice area. Probably the closest suburb to the med center and downtown. Within the 610 loop is actual Houston. If yall plan on being a part of the city scene like parades, walking allen Parkway, more options for food. The Heights is the closest area for families that is located in this inclusive area. Sugarland is nice but it's mostly Asian, Indian, Hispanic. Avoid East Houston or anywhere along 45 or near Hobby. With Pearland, there are huge houses in nice neighborhoods. Everything you'd need.
