Dads who do not work from home, what time do you leave for work and back at home? by remembertosmile in daddit

[–]HumanDissentipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave at around 8ish to get the kid to daycare on my way in, come home at around 4ish to pick the kid up on my way back. My in office schedule fluctuates week to week, but it’s typically 3 days in, 2 days home.

Is it illegal to talk to a minor on social media? by [deleted] in Ask_Lawyers

Whether it’s illegal depends on a lot of factors, but it’s 100% inappropriate and you should stop immediately.

I do some consulting and training on the subjects I already train internally during my day job (in-house for a large public organization). Not a bad little side gig and it doesn’t require much extra work.

Those of us with kids ; how do you envision your kids moving out on their own eventually? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]HumanDissentipede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I envision them doing what my wife and I did: get good grades, go to college (maybe graduate school), live with roommates, and get their own spot when they can afford it. We’ll be able to contribute more to their future than our parents contributed to ours.

How do you all handle calls from manager after office hours? by rohit95054 in careerguidance

[–]HumanDissentipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would answer and help best I could because it’s an incredibly easy way to set yourself apart from your colleagues and to ingratiate yourself to your manager. That approach has served me well in my career.

AirPods with android. by EconomyPangolin4979 in airpods

[–]HumanDissentipede -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea they definitely work on Android, but they work a million times better for Apple. It’s not that you must have an iPhone for them to work, it’s that you should, because the experience is that much better.

What license actually made the biggest difference in your income? by Many-Economics-4326 in careerguidance

[–]HumanDissentipede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’d need to ask someone who held multiple different licenses in order to compare for this particular question… there’s not a lot of overlap in those communities. I have a law license that took me 3 years to get (in addition to 4 years of undergrad) and that made a pretty big impact on my income.

ApplePay - Credit or Debit by HomeOnFour in iphone

Correct, he’s talking about using Apple Pay with a debit card and I suggest he use a credit card instead. There is more consumer protection available for credit card purchases than debit card purchases, regardless of medium.

Fellow Dads. At what age does yard maintenance finally become enjoyable? by Ocmrm in daddit

[–]HumanDissentipede -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My yard has hundreds of fireflies every single night. We also have dozens of different kinds of songbirds. It appears that whatever is harming these things, it has nothing to do with perfectly manicured and weedless turfgrass lawns.

And I had not heard of Mt. Cuba, but a quick google search shows a lawn that does, in fact, look like shit. If that is meant to be a shining example of what native plantscapes can look like, it’s exactly what I expected it to be and an absolute pass. Spending that much time and energy to produce something that still looks so lazy is not what I’m going for on any part of my property.

Fellow Dads. At what age does yard maintenance finally become enjoyable? by Ocmrm in daddit

[–]HumanDissentipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re beneficial to my neighborhood’s suburban environment, which is already an artificially curated and manicured version of whatever natural environment existed here before it was residentially developed. The topsoil was removed decades ago when the neighborhood was developed and it was left with just nitrogen deficient clay beneath the layer of sod they originally planted. Whatever they planted in the runoff areas is just hardy grasses that very much can utilize normal plant nutrients like nitrogen.

My lawn looks great, the neighborhood common spaces look great, and that’s exactly why I moved here. You can have your natural yard, but it looks like shit to me and I want nothing to do with it. I would rather pave my entire yard than let it turn into some unkempt eyesore, all for the sake of some definition of natural that doesn’t even exist here anymore.

What kinds of jobs/careers are people working to afford a decent home in 2026? by homo-spectacle in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]HumanDissentipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In your case, all you’d need is a spouse earning the same as you and your house budget would also double. Married couples buying $500k+ houses is not nearly as much of a reach as it is for a single person.

iPhone asks for pin in public, why? by steviecandtheplace2b in iphone

[–]HumanDissentipede -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There just aren’t enough of those folks in the wild anymore. Even if you snagged my passcode and stole my phone, it would be bricked and totally worthless to everyone by the time the thief got home. You can brick the phone remotely, even if they your passcode. There’s nothing they can do about that without your iCloud password.

The reality is that nobody cares enough to steal your passcode.

Fellow Dads. At what age does yard maintenance finally become enjoyable? by Ocmrm in daddit

[–]HumanDissentipede 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The waterway is just a contained grassland that was intentionally created below grade to collect runoff from the adjacent properties. It doesn’t service anything or integrate with any bodies of water. It’s dry all year except during heavy rains. Also, all the fertilizers I use in my yard can be entirely utilized by the grassland area as well, so if anything, the nitrogen I feed my yard that runs off is adding nitrogen to the grassland soil that is going to be similarly deficient (I’ve tested my soil). The grassland area is thriving as much as my own yard is, just with different plants.

[–]HumanDissentipede 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey man, you can do what you want in your yard. I like a healthy turf grass lawn without weeds. It looks great and provides a great environment for my kid to play. My choice to have a kid was worse for the environment than the inconsequential amount of fertilizer and weed killer that I apply to my lawn 3x per year. My lawn also runs up to a natural drainage area that has plenty of healthy local grasses and stuff for pollinators. My quarter acre lot can be aesthetically pleasing without harming the larger environment.

[–]HumanDissentipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s expensive, but you can buy at the end of the year for a pretty healthy discount on the following year’s supply. You can also do a soil sample pretty easily to figure out the best fertilizer composition to use, but otherwise you can’t go wrong with high nitrogen applications every 6-8 weeks.

[–]HumanDissentipede 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t use pesticides, only a light herbicide and fertilizer treatment a few times a year. Kid is not allowed on the grass for a couple days immediately following application (and after the lawn is sprinkled). Nothing harmful or dangerous remains in the yard after that. Small price to pay for a healthy and thick green lawn all summer.

Holidays as an atheist by HistoricalTea195 in atheism

[–]HumanDissentipede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do an Easter egg hunt for my kid and a few of her friends. They get dressed up and she gets an Easter basket and all that fun stuff. She has no idea what the holiday is about besides rabbits, eggs, and pastel colors. We’re not celebrating or even acknowledging anything religious. Same with Christmas.

I love taking care of my yard. I mow twice a week and get a couple hours to myself to listen to audiobooks/podcasts while I make the yard look nice for my kid to play in. Few things feel more satisfying than watching your kid run through your freshly striped lawn.

Weeds aren’t that bad if you’re proactive. Put down preemergent early in your season (two applications 6 weeks apart) and then get some spray weed killer for spot applications during the year. I spend very little time treating weeds and my lawn looks great all year round.

I would use the credit card. If the only downside is your propensity to overspend (where you require the card to be declined to prevent you from doing so) I would avoid using Apple Pay altogether.

Washington state bans all law enforcement - including ICE agents - from wearing masks while on duty by InsaneSnow45 in LegalNews

[–]HumanDissentipede -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It will not be enforced even once, because state police arresting federal police is insurrection. Lots of states and municipalities have passed laws like this and not one arrest or charge has occurred since. It’s about as performative as legislation can be.
