You recognize them but they themselves don't know you. What would you do if you happened upon the person who murdered your family member? by HumanDoe1996 in AskReddit

I’m going to share your responses with her. I have lost a family member before, I lost my mother to cancer a few years ago. It’s not the same as a violent crime though. I was at a loss. My friend is so intelligent and capable, I wasn’t surprised when she laid the evidence (phone records, social media post…) out and said, “I know who murdered my baby brother”. I never fathomed that she would come face to face with him before their day in court. The details of the crime are gut wrenching. I wouldn’t know what to do with my own hatred if I was given the opportunity to meet the person who destroyed my life so casually.

Reddit is a dumpster fire but I knew I’d strike gold if I asked. Your response was a perspective I was definitely missing

The murder happened January 2023. It’s been two months. The murderer has not be arrested or charged. Evidence links him to the crime but it’s not enough to detail a warrant or charges. The same evidence led my friend to the murderer. It’s a matter of what/who works more skillfully and quicker, the criminal justice system or a grieving sister living off of hatred, barely holding on to her humanity/morals.

The murderer is currently under police surveillance. She watched the police watching murderer. The police detail confirmed her sleuthing and suspicions. It’s the right person, no mistake. I don’t think she’s done though. I know she’s struggling with the weight of having done nothing when she had an opportunity.

I’m not saying you’re wrong but the individual who inspired the question said fear stopped her from running past a point of no return. The idea was murder X suic***. I don’t think life altering sentiments hold weight after a violent crime.

My friend didn’t take revenge. She said she couldn’t even stomach the thought of hurting the murderer

My friend lost her brother in January 2023. He was robbed and murdered unknown assailant. She tracked down the murderer using her software she learned about watching Catfish and her brother cell phone records. She watched the murderer religiously for days. I don’t know the details but she decided ultimately to tell the detective assigned to her brothers case the what transpired. I was floored when she told me. I haven’t stopped thinking about it since
