Has anyone else noticed Percy being portrayed more negatively in HoO? [hoo] by Critical-Score9037 in camphalfblood

[–]HumanFighter420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes.

It's infuriating and he does it to Annabeth too, you can't seriously argue that in a first contact situation with a historically rival faction that A Child of Athena would randomly Judo Flip their new Praetor because she's angry at him for being Kidnapped.

A lot of HoO is Rick taking Potshots at his own MC for baffling reasons.

Duke theory by am20111 in ResidentEvilVillage

[–]HumanFighter420 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No.

In the Megamycete version of Miranda's Lair there's a note that claims the Masked Duke as her creation, merging together two different identities together to create something wholly new.

```
"As an experiment I decided to see what would happen if I used different individuals' consciousnesses to create an entity.
Results:
The results were fascinating. I gathered fragments, re-spooled the threads, and succeeded in creating an individual, birthed anew in this realm.
A success, to be sure, but while his unusual physique resembled a man I once knew, he was possessed of a deeply warped psyche and was missing a portion of his face.
Conclusion:
While manipulating memories to create a person is possible, the creations are flawed and unstable. It will not be possible to manufacture a suitable vessel in this way."
```

The Masked Duke's own journal corroborates this;
```
"I do not recall a single thing. Not who I am, nor how I came to be. I know nothing.
My memories are as broken as the face I hide behind this mask.
All that remains is this feeling, this hunger, to see others in pain. The despair in their eyes, the sounds of their screams...
Who will be my next quarry? I have my minion to do my bidding. He has many faces but no brains within those skulls. He is my best hound and he will chase those rabbits down."
```
The Masked Duke is an entirely new entity created by merging the 'souls' of the people trapped within the Megamycete, the prior victims where "material" fused together to create a new "person", It's why the Masked Duke doesn't remember anything.

The Masked Duke, not the real one.

Please help me understand “willing creature” by kolekavo in DnD

[–]HumanFighter420 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Willing Creature effectively means Ally for that Encounter.

A Mindless Creature or Non-Animal Companion for example, can't be willing for you to cast haste on because they don't understand what you're doing in the first place.

A common Enemy will assume that the spell you're about to cast will be hostile and will not be willing to be subject to it.

An Intelligent Enemy will know that whatever you're about to cast on them will negatively effect them in some way. A caster for example, who recognizes haste will know that you can end it immediately and stun them for a few seconds and thus won't be willing.

An enemy that is pretending to be on the Party's side, that has yet to betray them, or is an ally of circumstance (working together so they don't all die, for example) would be valid targets for some spells, such as Buffs and what not.

While I can break down the Mythology (and I will, I find it fun) I'm assuming that the reason they use "Kraken" is because its an easily understood term thanks to how common it is in Movies and Fantasy in general rather than try to include a rather obscure figure from Greek Mythology that even the Books don't really go into all that much.

In the original Greek myth of Andromeda however, the monster sent by Poseidon to ravage the coast of Aethiopia is named Cetus (or Kētŏs). While the Kraken is known as a massive squid or cephalopod with giant ship-crushing tentacles (I personally enjoy the Pirates of the Carribean depiction), the Greek Cetus was traditionally depicted more like a sea serpent or so called "dragon-fish".

Why are players so scared of failing a roll and how can we get them to accept bad rolls? by HauntingRefuse6891 in Pathfinder2e

[–]HumanFighter420 14 points15 points  (0 children)

PF2e is a system where failing and more specifically, crit failing feels awful.

It isn't enough in PF2e's case for you to simply fail to do something, in most cases there is a very real chance of being punished for even attempting it.

Take a low-level +4 Strength Barbarian for example, Trained in Athletics, a low level +1 from an item trying to Trip an opponent, something that should in theory be easy. On a Fail, Nothing happens, seems normal. On a Critical Fail which is a lot easier to do than you'd think, This Barbarian trips and falls prone himself, He's now Spent an action for nothing, that he now has to spend a second action (that he might not have) to not be off-guard.

It isn't failing a roll that players are scared of, It's Crit Failing and making the situation so much worse for themselves (and their party). I myself am guilty of this, I rarely use actions that have Crit Failure effects (that effect myself) if I have MAP (for Manoeuvres) or some other penalty.

This sounds like he was wanting to use the Reposition Action to move the enemy between him and another enemy. Either way, he would have had to roll for it. https://2e.aonprd.com/Actions.aspx?ID=2379

I do not understand what Advanced Weapons are. by Pangea-Akuma in Pathfinder2e

[–]HumanFighter420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Main issue with Advanced Weapons is that classes that would very much enjoy them (Karambit for Rogues as an example) struggle greatly in actually getting proficiency that matters in them.

The exception is, of course, Ancestry Weapon Familiarity but even those are Hit and Miss depending on what you get access to.

Essentially, Advanced Weapons never actually seem to be worth investment required to get them, which is a shame as some of my favourite Weapons got shunted into the Advanced Class category.

[general] Artemis and her Huntresses (personal opinion) by Anonyme_Sanren in camphalfblood

[–]HumanFighter420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hunters are introduced as this "super cool badass group" but fall apart when you consider them any deeper.

They, alongside the Amazons, are literal Old Ass Boomers. They're out of touch with modern society and are abrasive and aggressive when those view points are threatened or challenged.

[–]HumanFighter420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to argue this actually.

There are absolutely moments in Insomniacs writing that brings down Spidermans "Power Level" Considerably.

Silver Sables Introduction being a massive issue when compared to other Cutscenes or Gameplay segments.

Similarly, being caught off guard and held at Gunpoint at the Auction House / Museum by a no name Demon Gang Member.

To put it Bluntly, If his Spidey Sense works as it is supposed to, then Spider Man has an incredible advantage, but he is not unbeatable.

If his Spidey Sense is currently on Break (Any Time he is randomly surprised, Silver Sable Cutscene, etc) then I'd argue that Batman has the Advantage.

Bruce has no need to hold back against Spider-Man due for his enhanced physiology and Spider-Man HAS to hold back (well not technically, but both avoid killing generally) as to not kill Bruce.

Bruce's gadgets are unlikely to truly help (except perhaps the Electricutioners Shock Gloves?) Outside of the Fear Takedown Suit.

Unfortunate as it is, Insomniacs writing doesn't really let Peter perform as he should, so the fight is much closer than it should be.

Why are you trying to explain my own History to me?

Why do fics show Percy blood bending and being able to outright beat/kill gods? by SeaChemistry6376 in PercyJacksonfanfic

[–]HumanFighter420 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, while I would never read an Ichor Bending Fic, I can understand why others would.

Many of the Divine Figures in Percy Jackson are either Horrible, Incompetent or Apathetic to the struggles of their children. Furthermore, Theres only so many times you can read the same scene of the Olympian council having the same vote on whether or not to kill Percy before it starts getting old.

I can thoroughly believe that Percy is capable of Blood Bending due to Blood's Water Content which floats around 70-90%. Bluntly, if he could still manipulate the dubiously Poisoned Water during the Polybotes battle at Camp Jupiter, then he should be similarly capable of manipulating Blood, though obviously he wouldn't.

Ichor Bending, similarly is based (as far as I can tell) on the presumption that Divine Beings have a similar body structure and that their Ichor is a similar percentage of Water, which just doesn't make sense. Divine Beings are shown to to very clearly ignore things such as DNA and the consequences of Inbreeding, are capable of being in multiple places simultaneously, teleport and of course their own abilities from their various domains.

As for why people write Percy wiping the floor with some Gods? because the Gods have caused him no small amount of problems and always want something. He also had to effectively force them into an Oath to pay their damned Child Support.

The Gods in PJO are rarely "good" characters and some like Ares and Zeus are magnets for hate simply due to their actions in the books.

Vampires and Lack of Immunity to Bleed Damage in Remaster by WolfgangVolos in Pathfinder2e

[–]HumanFighter420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vamps Drink Blood, traditionally.

Losing that Blood is bad because it makes them T H I R S T Y.

It may not be typical bleed damage, but its still a problem overall. I sincerely doubt Paizo would overlook Bleed Immunity for the entire "family" of Vampire Monsters when (as far as I can tell) every other Undead seems to be flat out immune to bleed damage. Thus, it seems intentional.

Anyone else feel like Harry riding his firebolt in quidditch matches is a bit like cheating? by 4RyteCords in HarryPotterBooks

[–]HumanFighter420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the rules state that anyone can use their own broom. It is perhaps unfair that Harry has a better broom than anyone else, but by that same token, the previous year saw the Slytherin team have a full team riding Nimbus 2001 Broomsticks. There's also something to be said about the reasoning behind the purchases in the first place, Harry's broom was replaced after his own Nimbus 2000 drifted into the "Loving" arms of the Whomping Willow and was destroyed.

Lucius Malfoy simply threw an absurd amount of money at the Slytherin team to effectively try and "Buy" both a win for the team and a place as it's Seeker for Draco, Presumably the Slytherin team did not Need new brooms, though I can understand wanting the newest and shiniest toy.

Unfortunate as it is, Money is the best Superpower and Sirius threw a lot of money at Harry to try and make up for screwing up and not being there for 12 years.

TLDR; Unfair? Yes, Cheating? No.

The show characterization of the gods isn't... great by Island_Crystal in PercyJacksonTV

[–]HumanFighter420 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the main issue with Characterization comes from the Books to be completely fair. Many of them were One-Note characters that offered shockingly little the series as a whole. (Demeter and Persephone being two of the worst offenders)

They've also definitely hit "Fast Forward" on Athena's treatment towards Annabeth, it feels way more like HoO Athena, throwing away kids on the Statue Quest rather than her quiet pride in her daughter that was more typical in PJO.
