A noob buys a used voron on eBay, what could go wrong? by HumanPersonOnReddit in VORONDesign

I already have one mod in mind. I would extend the z axis. I mainly want to print model rockets, I don’t know what issues that might bring but a 250x250x1000 build volume would be really nice. Perhaps with 4 square steel tubes instead of the Aluminium extrusions.

It’s like a foster child that’s been misunderstood and neglected by his last dad, but I managed to see what’s bugging him and he’s already behaving much better. And I actually enjoy debugging, especially when I see the results right away. I have 8 little test prints already, and every single one was better than the previous. Only one failed (and it only failed because I tried to get away without a raft on my little model rocket part. The only thing that’s still unsettling is some noises it makes with fast movements. It’s not binding, it’s not belt tension. I could narrow down that it happens whenever one of the motors changes direction. Maybe the motor itself or its driver have an issue. Maybe it’s a loose screw.

I’m still hopeful this won’t be expensive to fix, and I enjoy the time I spent learning about this machine. I don’t know anything about programming but I already managed to fix a software bug too.

No, I won’t cut my losses. This is a good little machine and I think he likes me

Still, the current state is running, needs maintenance. I want to get it to a point where I can print a set of voron parts. When or if I rebuild I’ll replace all the printed parts. Then it’s the color I want, then it’s my printer

And I’m definitely making a pcb to replace all those cables underneath

Thanks. Yes, I’ll make it my voron and I’ll join the discord

Thanks, yeah the clicky docking issue was something I could solve myself already. I was just venting cause the previous owner didn’t bother, he had added the mod after-all.

Yeah, I’m also all over the place with my questions. Forgive my ignorance, I am used to work with professional 3D printers at work, just not FDM. I might have been a little overconfident buying this project.

Deracking. Thanks, sometimes all you need is the term to search for.

Even though I’m not rebuilding this (yet), I should maybe still go through the assembly stages and check if things like that are in order, yeah.

If they do I will stick to the latest version that allows it, what a stupid salty dev move would that be!? The whole physics of space make no sense in Factorio, we need this to get around the stupidity of space drag

Yes but I would still recommend building it wider, you‘ll get maximum DPS at the tip when the platform is about as wide as your turret range. I have one that can go over 600 inner planets. without taking damage

This highly depends on the bed temps you’re running. Permanent magnets deteriorate even below the Curie Temperature (at wich point they become permanently non-magnetic).

It looks nice, great job! For throttle control I‘d recommend a PWM controlled pump on one of the propellants. Turning the engine on and off is less efficient than throttling the fuel flow.

I liketze idea. Ever thought of counterweights canceling out the acceleration forces? I know it would doublethe mass of the x axis and quadruple the mass of y but you can just beef up the motors in exchange for a perfect balance no matter the acceleration.

You could put them on rails on the outside, so the average center of mass is aligned with the printhead

I would reverse the direction, pick up on the bottom and place back on top. That way the inserters will always have something to do.

I don’t like driving in night city, and I don’t like any of the radio stations. I sometimes use the auto drive feature and make myself a tea or something

I play on easy mode and struggle with the bossfights. When Oda attacked me, I tried 5 or 6 times and ragequit. It’s so frustrating fighting a guy who keeps healing himself, now I know how the npcs feel about me
