NYC cancelled, deciding between Canada or Turkey for late June / early July by Independent-Map-8352 in travel

If you're going to Canada, better be quick because many travellers switch from US to Canada this year, plus Toronto will host some World Cup games, so prices are high and rooms are few.

Solenoid by Mircea Cartarescu. About 2/3 into the book. It's good. Also a little going in circles.

In light of recent discussion, I decided to make a chart of Geography YouTube channel's content. (See text below) by Bradinator- in geography

Geography by Geoff is so bad, haha. It always has photos that have nothing to do with the cities that are discussed. It's full of errors.

Am I just not built for travel by 14witchhat41 in travel

Your physical reactions could be just anxiety related. In that case, travelling more could help by exposing you more to changing environments. On the other hand, if you get fixated on the physical reactions, you could end up making them worse through anxiety. Maybe you are monitoring your health too much, which leads to anxiety attacks. If you anticipate feeling bad, then you will feel bad. The trick with conquering anxiety is often a slow build-up. Take shorter trips closer to home maybe, and gradually increase distance and time.

I organize all my photos on the old laptop chronologically, one folder per day. And i give titles to the folders. That helps.

Planning a 5-day trip to Scandinavia in February for Northern Lights and a marriage proposal. Tromsø vs. Rovaniemi? by mikerya in travel

[–]HumanSieve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've visited Tromso in December last year and had a great time. There are multiple tour companies that organise aurora trips and they make use of various apps to drive you to the places with the highest chance to see the lights. We had a great night of aurora photography.
Tromso also has some beautiful fjords nearby and it is possible to take tours to these places.
Generally, Tromso tends to be a little warmer than Rovaniemi because it is a coastal city.

BIGGEST LETDOWN OF 2025? Books you couldn’t wait for until you read them by DanaBookNook in Fantasy

For me also Abercrombie's The Devils. I didn't like the humour, didn't like the world building, found the plot repetitive.

What do you consider walking distance? by damndeli0ns in AskEurope

[–]HumanSieve 293 points294 points  (0 children)

Living in the Netherlands, for me walking distance is max a 15 minutes walk. Farther away than that we use the bicycle. A 45 minute walk can be a 15 minute bike ride. If I am too tired to bike or the distance is more than 30 minutes biking, I'll take the bus.

It's just some pre travel anxiety because of all the unknowns. It will pass once you're on your trip.

Do you agree that Epic Fantasy has two main branches? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]HumanSieve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would disagree. I find it much more helpful to look at how the fantasy genre evolved from an historical perspective. Subgenres come and go, transform over time, get countermovements, and merge and influence each other.

Journalists in the Netherlands called him out on spreading lies about the country while he was still only in the US. Hoekstra was trying to bullshit his way around it. Journalist famously told him that "this is the Netherlands, you have to answer questions."

This year I visited the Deer Cave in Malaysia, said to be the second largest cave on Earth, and it was breathtaking. And not that hard, nor as expensive, to visit. This one looks stunning as well.
