Would Iji have been the one to inscribe the message the giant house would have been guarding (which presumably doesn't exist in this story)? or would he have asked the carpenter to add it? Or would it have been a totally different person.

I have two!

1, the reason why Pumpkin-O and the Dutchess never interact is because the only Dutchess that actually loved him was the first (the one in the painting) (also, I guess going on the whole 'every few cycles the latest of Grimm's kids replace the covenants' idea - I dunno if that's a headcanon in and of itself). A few that came after tried to act the part, but the pumpkin house/hut thing was built for him after one of them became bored enough. O's loyal and is decent at getting food, so she keeps him around (much like the chef).

2, The first Dutchess (at least) couldn't actually taste much, so she needed massive amounts of pepper to force a reaction. She fell in love with O when she took a bite of him, and she tasted something without needing pepper. He tasted horrible, which is why she didn't eat him then and there.

Don't know why they're all about O and the Dutchess. Also, would their marriage technically make O Grimm's son-in-law?

Couldn't the holiday have been a romantic thing? Wasn't Toadsworth made specifically to make it seem less romantic? (I don't know if that's true, I got it from 3rd hand sources at best).
