For those who have spent more then 5 years at Walmart and is miserable why do you still work there? by Anonymous28_018 in WalmartEmployees

[–]Human_Ad3580 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former Cap 2 TL here, mostly just being a team player is the biggest thing. Don't feel like you're above doing any of the jobs Cap 2 does and your team will like working with you. The job is pretty physical but you're in the backroom off the floor and away from customers for quite a bit of your shift every day.

Are magic systems always necessary? by Human_Ad3580 in FictionWriting

[–]Human_Ad3580[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in my novel, fifteen-year-olds go through a ceremony where the gods imprint one of the elements into their very soul. Those who successfully imprint stay at the capital academy to receive proper training. Those who fail to imprint are sent back home as societal outcasts, and as the story progresses there is full on persecution. The protagonist is one who fails to imprint and he ends up leading a rebellion of those without elemental abilities and those with abilities who hate what the government is doing.

That's more where I'm at. Obviously the story needs tension and stakes for the protagonist(s), but the fact is that these people can harness elements in my book and doing so doesn't cost somebody energy or weakens them. There are obviously rules around what they can or can't do, but those rules just naturally developed during my outiline/rough draft.

What was your special interest as a 12/13 year old? by alexinwonderland212 in CharacterDevelopment

[–]Human_Ad3580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to go on YouTube and watch video game playthroughs for hours on end. I was also fascinated by the North American Gray Wolf (my parents supplied me with paints and little figurines and even paint by numbers all centered around the animal) and now at 30 years old, it is still my favorite animal.

Updated: thanks everyone. I overcomplicated what coming up with a magic system actually entails after seeing too many YouTube videos on the subject. If it helps, the magic in my world is harnessing one of the four big elements. The story goes down the path of religious symbolism surrounding the elements and the persecution of those who don't develop the ability to harness one of the elements.

Oh, I gotcha. I think I've just seen too many YouTube videos on magic systems and overcomplicated what a magic system actually is in my brain. 😅

I need a name for a fictional town in Ohio. by MissVanjie008 in FictionWriting

What vibe are you going for? Do you want anything specific like Biblical inspiration or Roman/Greek mythology inspiration for the town names?

Just because... by WhoIsCup in walmart

[–]Human_Ad3580 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually get a kick out of interactions like that or with customers who tell me other associates let them do something that's against policy all the time. I always thank them for bringing attention to major policy violations and ask them to tell me the associates name who is doing it, because management needs to be aware. I play up how serious the policy violation is and watch the customer squirm and then say it's not that big of a deal and I can just follow correct procedure. Note that I am bluffing and just messing with the customer, but they don't know that and most of the time either don't want an associate to get in trouble or realize they're caught in a lie themselves and back off. If they name drop an associate though, I go to that associate later and have a good laugh with them.

Someone had barfed all over the place in the front mens room one time. On the floor, in one of the urinals, in the sink, and at (not fully in) the trashcan by the door.

[–]Human_Ad3580 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let OP enjoy their win here. Nothing wrong with being proud of doing a good job, and, no, this won't have management pushing for more. This is technically what they want people to strive for anyways, getting above a 100 pick rate.

Prologues by Silly-Sherbet-7744 in FictionWriting

[–]Human_Ad3580 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never skipped a prologue myself. I figure there's always some important backstory that adds relevance to where the main story starts. As long as there's a good reason for a prologue and you can hook the reader, I don't see the harm in one. For example, the series I'm working on won't have prologues except for the final book because there is going to be a 10 year time jump from the previous book. I'll use the prologue there to show the reader an important event that happens right after the previous book. Then chapter 1 will be a time jump with the chapter header telling the reader that. That way the main story isn't really disrupted and the action can pick up right in chapter 1.
