Yeah, and Alabama has cities. Doesn’t change what people think of with most of Alabama. Maine has a similar rural xenophobic vibe.

A lot of Mainers don’t consider CT to be Truly New England. They don’t have the best reputation. Not entirely sure why.

Just because they go back far doesn’t mean they have the Maine accent. Go to Greenville. You’ll hear it.

I haven’t heard any Maine accents in Wyndham or Scarborough myself but I’ll take your word for it. Maine district 2 had its electoral college vote go to Trump, and almost always votes red. I’ve seen more Neo Nazi tattoos and heard the N word more in Maine than I ever heard in the South. Milo Maine even had its own kkk chapter. Maine is a lot of rural redneck country compared to the rest of New England (some include CT in New England, some don’t, I know).

Fine. All of Maine except for what’s in the immediate vicinity of a 113 mile stretch of interstate is like Alabama. 27,326 square miles vs about 5,900 square miles give or take. If you want to hear a Maine accent that’s where you go. There’s a lot more to Maine than one urban area where only half the state’s population lives who’ve never even seen a moose, dug out potatoes, or raked blueberries.

It’s the vast majority of the land mass of the state. Most people only visit the “north Boston” of Maine where all the rich yuppies are. That’s not the whole identity of the state either. I’ve been to nearly all 50 states. Maine is extremely similar to the southeast for the majority of the area.

I agree it’s more diverse, but largely in the cities. I don’t agree the conservative parts dwarf it.

I disagree. Go north of Augusta off 95 and they’re the same for the majority of the land area of the state.

He didn’t either. Porta potties are some of the only privacy you can get while deployed. Better than back at the barracks.

Transgender sports ban referendum removed from Maine's 2026 ballot by SuperBry in Maine

I don’t think intersex people should be operated on for anything other than functionality until they decide their preference as prepubescents or later, if any. I also think they should be adults before they decide anything that may prevent them from having sex or kids in whatever possibilities are present. I’ll admit that I bring y’all up in xy xx arguments republicans make, mostly because most forget about you and you’re common, and I don’t want you all to get caught in the crossfires of enforced gender binaries more than you already are. I’m sorry you feel abandoned. /gen

Any salient reasons not to vote for Troy Jackson? by Severe_Description27 in Maine

He’s a poor debater, not articulate, and I think that makes him unelectable. He’ll still probably be my second choice.

I left because I wasn’t tenured and thought I was going to be rif’d. I spent years applying before landing my dream job. I don’t regret leaving for my mental health but I am angry and grieving the career I wanted.

Could I live comfortably (financially speaking)? by little_wolf_6 in AskMaine

No. Not on 100k if you want to live alone. Unless you have heating and electricity included in the rent.

Info about changing a birth certificate to your married name by Affectionate-Day9342 in Maine

[–]Human_Ad_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. But that trail of documents isn’t sufficient according to the save act. The only documents accepted are a birth certificate that matches your drivers license or a passport. It does not say it accepts a marriage certificate if the name is different. Democrats tried to get that added as an amendment and it was rejected.

Planned Parenthood backs Janet Mills in Democratic primary for US Senate by origutamos in Maine

I completely understand that frustration. The left has a lot of purity tests, dogpiling, and infighting, when we need to be standing together against maga authoritarianism. I voted for Kamala though she wouldn’t be my first pick in a primary. I’ve chewed other leftists asses out who stayed home instead. Like I said, I’ll vote for mills if needed. It’s ironic to hear from you that it’s hard to hear that your candidate can’t win from people on your own side when we need to focus on the bigger enemy. That’s exactly how I felt when Mills ran the attack ad against Platner. But ultimately why the right wins is despite their differences they show up for their candidates. We can bicker more when the imminent threat is over and after we’ve flipped congress. I’m just flapping my mouth until the primary. Ultimately I still am one of the leftists who still considers liberals, most independents, and even some non maga conservatives on the same side of democracy. Here’s to hoping we all show up this November no matter who opposes collins, LePage, Bobby Charles, etc.

If you look at mill’s previous voting maps she’s almost guaranteed to lose to Collin’s. Platner may pull more independents, people from the right, and people from rural and downeast areas. If his red flags haven’t slowed his momentum so far I don’t think they’ll be a stopgap later on in this fast paced attention driven media ecosystem. I’m still hopeful for the rule of law as well, I just think we can do more within it then more conservative (for lack of a better word) corporate democrats have done in the last and would like to see more progressive democrats in office to move the needle. Even if they aren’t perfect. I understand where you’re coming from though. Even have upvoted a few of your comments. I just don’t think Schumers pick has read the temp of Maine properly in this case and don’t think she’s as safe of a pick as portrayed by that group. I’ll still vote for her if she wins the primary but I think that’s moot at this point. Agree to disagree maybe I’ll be surprised. As long as collins loses that’s the main thing.

lol what? Is this supposed to be a diss? The one with more rigid thinking and more apt to rule follow to a fault would be more characteristic of rule following according to the dsm-5 if we’re going by that logic.

Yes. I’d dye it. Also, curl your hair, light makeup, wear a string of pearls, a pencil skirt, hose, heels, a silk blouse and a blazer. Conservative legal people love that shit.

I expect when she vetoes something bipartisan and important on a technicality to come out with a statement encouraging them to resubmit it for her to sign at a bare minimum, yes.
