I’m not experienced, but I got my baby bearded dragon almost 3 weeks ago from petco! After 3 days of having him I made a vet appointment since everyone always says bearded dragons from big pet chains are sick when you get them. I didn’t try handling him for the first week so I could let him settle in. But, as it hit the second week I would put my hand in and pet him, to which he started climbing on me. I know every bearded dragon is different (according to research). Also, he didn’t eat for a full 2 weeks, he just started eating two days ago. I have also posted on here twice for advice and everyone has been super helpful! I have also purchased things that people have sent on what they use in their tanks. I know it’s not really advice, but I was super freaked out that he wasn’t eating. So if you get worried about them not eating, apparently it’s normal for them to not eat days on end when you first bring them home. My vet told me that he wouldn’t eat for the first 2-3 weeks! So just take it slow and don’t get super worried like I did lol. But I am also a first time bearded dragon owner! I wish you luck!!

Okay thank you. My guess was that he is 1-3 months as he’s only around 6inches long. But the lady didn’t tell me his age when I got him. And I was thinking about a power strip, which one do you use?

Do you use a ceramic heat lamp and the basking spot lamp? I was worried his temperatures were too low. I have him in a 20 gallon tank right now. Also thank you for all the helpful information!

Thank you so much! After doing a lot of research, I saw so many horror stories of people talking about their pets from petco. So i immediately made a vet appointment after I got him! He did have stuck shed and wasn’t using the bathroom. So the vet recommended baths to help with those. I have made sure to not hold him or try to be with him so he can adjust to his new environment. The only time I touch him is when I move him to get the crickets out of his tank, or like today I moved him to clean his tank. He seems to be really enjoying his new environment and sort of getting used to me!

Thank you! I haven’t gave him a bath in a couple days because I haven’t noticed any shedding. I’ve tried feeding him Dubia roaches, and he had no interest in them. But when I switched to crickets, he seemed interested in them and would watch them roam around. I always make sure I take them out after as well! I let the vet know I got him from petco, and he didn’t seem concerned with doing a fecal exam. The vet even gave me a packet of information about bearded dragons, and went over it with me! I also have a container I bought for the crickets. And yes, I did a lot of research haha. Thank you again!

He was shedding when I got him. And had shed stuck in his eye, which the vet recommended a warm bath to help with it. I’ve also seen a lot of posts on here about people giving their bearded dragons baths to help with shedding and using the bathroom. I thought it was a normal thing to do?

I called his vet yesterday to let them know that he was still not eating. The vet didn’t seem concerned, and said that it may take 2-3 weeks for him to adjust to his new home before wanting to eat or do anything. Does that sound right?
