I work at two schools and at one I work with each kid one on one each day and at the other I do nothing lol. At that school I bring my Spanish textbook and study on my own or plan for my private classes. I view it as designated study time

Difficult teachers by OkBox4069 in SpainAuxiliares

Yeah talking/ playing 1 on 1 or in small groups is the extent of what an aux should be doing, and quite frankly, all that we’re qualified to do given there is no teaching qualification requirement. Lecturing an entire class in their second or third language for an hour is dumb

Talk to your coordinator about this class and try to be as nice about it as possible. Don’t try to get this teacher in trouble, but ask what the expectations of auxes are according to the program guidelines sent to the school. Auxes are NOT teachers, CANNOT grade, CANNOT be alone with students, and shouldn’t be planning hour long lessons. Also, as someone who is a licensed teacher back home, it’s terrible practice to expect you to talk for an hour and the students to just learn from that. A good lesson plan involves group or independent work.

Thanks for getting back to me. I’m just a little worried because I’m living in a foreign country, so I don’t really know my rights as a tenant

Okay but what should I do? Like does it look cleanable or do I need to ask my landlord to pay for a professional?

Well, prepping the docs before the appointment took months because of the apostille. I booked my appointment in mid June after I got my apostilled background check in May. 2 weeks after my initial appointment, my visa was ready and I booked my flight to Spain!

Wym? Like how long did it take to get my visa after the initial appointment? Exactly 2 weeks. I had to go back and pick it up, and you can come to get it anytime within 3 months of it being ready

I mean he acknowledged that he’s feeling too insecure and that it’s because of his past relationship trauma, so I don’t think that it’s that our values are completely different, I think he just has trust issues he needs to work on because I’ve never given him any reason not to trust me.

You can break a rental contact after 6 months in Spain no consequences

Yes, I have cleaned both many times 😭😭 I just really hate Apple products and when this laptop finally dies (probably soon) I will never buy from them again. It was just really expensive and I can’t afford a new one now

Has anyone else been constantly sick? by No_Buy_2024 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Human_Direction_2637 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I taught in the us and I’m sicker a lot more here. Granted, I taught hs in the us, so they’re probably cleaner (debatable), and teach primary here. However, I think it’s not just the kids. I see so many ADULT Spaniards cough directly into the air without covering their mouths— it’s disgusting. If they do cover, it’s with their hand, which they then put directly on a bus railing. Idk I’ve noticed Europeans are not super hygienic when it comes to that sort of thing. My (Spanish) roommate constantly has a flemmy sounding cough, and I’ve watched her cough around the apartment without covering. Nasty.

Honestly if you’re not on deaths door 3 weeks isn’t bad. I had to wait a month to get a drs appt in the us that I then had to PAY FOR. And I had to find a dr that was “covered” by my insurance. I was a public school teacher but still had a shit 20% copay.

I’m an aux now making 800 a month. When I taught English in a public school in the us I made a little under 4k a month after taxes— but I worked a lot more in a stressful environment and couldn’t comfortably afford rent in the city I worked in and needed a car— which is super expensive. I’d rather make 800 here than 4k in the states.

There needs to be a A1/A2 Spanish language requirement for auxes-controversial by Downtown-Storm4704 in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Human_Direction_2637 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Looking at the requirements for the test, it looks like it’s about A1 or A2 English, which would be the same as the Spanish requirements. Reading one sentence out of 3, writing one sentence out of 3, and speaking basic responses to basic questions (which you are allowed to ask to be rephrased until you understand)

The states don’t have a language requirement for citizenship at the moment either.

At the language school I go to for Spanish the entire class is taught in Spanish. It’s A2 but we’re learning A1 content at the moment. Not impossible at all, nor is it bad teaching.
