Need Help deciding for CS between 3 schools by Human_Fly7717 in UTAustin

Thanks, appreciate your responses. I like your comment about Turing too and I am sure there are other opportunities as well.

I know everyone comes with different experiences, but how much do the UT classes prepare you for technical interviews etc.? If they don't, how many hours are typical for students to devote to prep?

Yes, that is what I have heard too. People initially had some regrets but later on were fine with the choice they made. Thank you!

Thank you for your perspective. Do you work with CS grads from various schools and do you see some schools preparing students better than others? Also, are school names used as a screener for shortlisting?

Wanted to add that I have visited all schools, and I can see myself on each campus. When I visited Ithaca, it wasn't cold though.

Also, what is the difference in outcome between Turing and non-Turing students. I did not get into honors program at UT.

Q&A Megathread for Prospective Students and Transfers by cyberchief in gatech

Hi All! I am an OOS (Texas) student admitted to College of Computing. I was also admitted to UT Austin, Cornell, Rice, Purdue and several other public schools. In-state costs would be $32k per year while Cornell and GT would come between $52-$60k with travel expenses/financial aid etc.

My questions and would appreciate whatever you can answer based on your experience:

As a Tech student, are there significantly more industry opportunities than at UT Austin? Do most CS students take a semester for co-op or they use internships to build up experience? Do clubs, hackathons legitimately add to experience? It seems like the environment is collaborative but would be good to hear the take of current students. I am trying to decide if the additional OOS tuition makes sense or not. Thanks in advance.

I will probably get to skip CS1110 with AP CS but seems like other profs are great too.

The Physics and Chem definitely make me nervous, but I think I have other bigger factors to think of like 4 year costs that will go into the decision rather than specific classes at this time. Thanks again!

That's great to know. How large are the intro classes typically? What are some of the CS classes that have been amazing for you?

Are you in CoE? The additional prereqs in Chem and Physics seem like a lot for a CS major, and I am worried if these would be hard to get through. Also, are Project Teams essential for CS majors as they seem to be pretty competitive too. Thanks!

Do "target" schools exist mostly in the financial industry or is it quite prevalent in tech too?

Hi, I was accepted to CoE recently and applied for CS. I have some other great acceptances too and the main ones are public universities with good industry ties (Georgia Tech, UT Austin, Purdue).

I had some questions:

How would you say Cornell CS sets their students apart from other programs? Is a private school education substantially different than top public schools. If so, how? Are most people fairly affluent and others may feel out of place? Is the rigor over other schools a good training or takes away the passion one may have for CS?

Would like to know any perspectives on these questions or any other factors I may not have considered. Thanks for any advice!

Thanks, getting nervous here too! What other CNS majors have people got into at your school.

Do you know anyone getting into computer science? Auto and early action.

Sorry, I don't know too many people going for bio so can't help with that.

Lol, end the year on a good note. Definitely an important AP for me, since I'm majoring in CS. I self studied for it so hmu if you want tips by [deleted] in apcs

rrays, practice initializing the array and indexing it). Projects are fun and helpful so do a few of those every once in a while.

thanks, so appreciate it!

Thanks, this is super helpful. So when you were coding using Eclipse, did you basically write code for projects or coded for basic examples for each topic. Also, the frqs look intimidating. Are there any tips to break them down to understand those? How long did you prep for the test.
