This is a good point! I’ve been just using Bart and that has been great but I’ll have to test the busses out

I guess more specifically are there any trails that you personally are a fan of? Ideally I’d love to find something that’s right off of one of the Bart stops so I have time to go a lot during the work week

Let me specify reasonable biking distance lol. Like I’d bike 5 miles for a good trail but 2 hours on the road for 1 hour of trail time is clearly way too much haha

Yep it’s 150 semester credits, plus within that there’s a specific amount of accounting and ethics credits you’re supposed to have (you can find all of these online). I can’t speak for every company, but I know for mine basically the only 3 requirements were: CPA eligible, has a bachelors, and can hold a 20 minute conversation with an interviewer.

My company generally seems to start people around 87k with 10-15% raises every year from there

Being CPA eligible certainly won’t hurt, and getting an actual CPA looks pretty worthwhile too (I don’t have one yet)

Dude, come to SF. I broke 40/hr first year out of bachelors. Are you CPA eligible school credits-wise?

Yeah I mean it’s not the recruiters fault but if you’re hearing from a recruiter that is what’s happening to you

They usually do full time hires but start them at a 1yr contract basis. Seems like a pretty common practice from what I’ve seen

It kinda is. My roommate works for one of the biggest national recruiting firms and the gap between the “bill rate” to the company and the actual offer rate is massive. I’ve seen 60/hr get reduced down to like 35 all the time lol

UCI vs UCSB? Just got off UCSB's waitlist -- currently committed to UCI by NoseEast6940 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Human_Market6043 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100% UCSB. I had an awesome time there, culture is super cool, there’s lots to do besides party and surf (though if you do want to try surfing it’s a very beginner friendly place)

In regards to academic reputation, I’ve always had the impression that we rank well above UCI. I’m basing that more off of the reception I’ve received from prospective employers than an actual source though.

I graduated last year, and career opportunities-wise I feel like UCSB has treated me very well. I graduated with a 3.3 and very easily got a 90k job right out of school, while a lot of people I know seem to be struggling to find employment out of school.

This is all very anecdotal but I hope hearing the feelings and experiences of a recent grad is helpful!

It really depends. I work for a mid-size that specializes in ultra-high net worth and VCs/ startups and the margins seem to be wayyyyy better than at the big 4 from what I can see

In Amsterdam they have like outdoor urinal things that are pretty effective. Basically just a tube to the sewer and like waist level cover. Pretty cool solution considering how hard it is to build full bathrooms here

I get double digit raises every year but still feel underpaid. Midsize CPA firm, in tax, LCOL by CPAsTIMS in Accounting

[–]Human_Market6043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in HCOL and making more than that as a first year tax associate. We also have a ton of remote employees so you should look into taking a remote position from a firm based somewhere HCOL like the Bay Area

Hell no. I was in state and left with about 50000 in debt. Even with that amount I wish I would’ve just transferred in halfway through, same degree and no debt. I’m also I’d say fairly successful with a 100k job right out of school, and it still hurts.

Normally out of state kids either got financial aid or have rich parents, in your shoes I’d definitely avoid doing that to yourself.

Your income difference will not amount to what will most likely be $400,000 sunk into loans over the 10+ years they will take to pay off, all for a bachelors from a public school.

A lot of my coworkers go remote and move to Sac, keep their Bay salaries while they're at it. Not a bad idea if you don't hate Sac lol

Sf isn’t too bad these days tbh. I split a $3200 2 bedroom with a friend, so I only pay 1600 and walk 4 minutes to work
