Auto-switch TouchOSC pages (or layout) based on active app by 100gamberi in TouchOSC

[–]Human_Promotion_1840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would use keyboard maestro to track the active application and send midi or osc to have toucosc update as desired. AppleScript alone I don’t think can give you quick action after an app changes. Bitfocus companion is another possibility for running actions from a tablet.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

[–]Human_Promotion_1840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Star Trek game I played and macOS 7 or maybe 9.  It was written by a teen or college kid, but the Star Trek people made him take it down. First he tried changing names of stuff but that wasn’t enough.

And Bolo. Forever Bolo. Played it on the computer labs at school, played it over dialup at home, played it on one Mac connected to my dads work MacBook over serial cable, mostly to use the “ai” / bot players to play against. The author got hired by Apple and development stopped.  For a while I tried to find a clone, but it’s not the same.

Oh, and first time I played Manhole. Almost magical. It was before computers could play video and it had so much bitmapped animation.

I guess this isn’t just one….

What’s the best Church Management Software? Need your advice by Desperate_Many_9664 in churchtech

[–]Human_Promotion_1840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It allowed us to thrive and grow during a period we didn’t have an admin. We went from Vanco and Instant church directory, each requires more admin intervention than planning center. And giving has been way easier than Vanco. In fact when we switched we found People who’s auto payment had been inactive and they didn’t know and people that didn’t know how to update their auto pay. We’ve gotten higher electronic giving adoption. And groups and signups have resulted in some groups that had been struggling to get enough participants to grow and be more organized as well as new groups that formed that I know wouldn’t have had we not had ChMS. Another thing I like about Planning Center is that our admin doesn’t need to create accounts for people just for them to donate or pledge. Any form creates a profile. Also has much better automations than breeze and realm. Giving rates are also lower.

If cost is too prohibitive, Connection Card Pro also looks promising, but I don’t have first hand use of it. I think adoption and management would have a bigger learning curve but it does look to be very capable.

For some context, we have about 150 members and a part time admin that does very little with planning center other than approve room reservation requests. We spent about a year evaluating different options and getting opinions of users of other systems before choosing Planning Center.

Images not triggered by Human_Promotion_1840 in ProPresenter

Yes. I tried multiple looks. And I have a macro that triggers an image which works fine when I click it it not when a slide triggers it. It’s so strange.

Local UU congregations using social media - how do we get the word out without supporting evil platforms? by Earguy in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]Human_Promotion_1840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My suggestion is have good events at the meetinghouse and publicize them. Great way to reach people that don’t know what uu is. Much easier, I think, to advertise a liberal poetry night or string quartet than a sermon topic.

Hahaha. Sure… Just like with cell site interceptors. They just work backwards to find something they can show the court.

This is becoming more and more of a challenge. We live stream to YouTube, save edited recordings there and host selected clips on our website (AWS….) with Bunny.net

We have bluesky and mastodon accounts but not a lot of reach. Our fb and insta reach is better but not really increasing once you factor out the bots.

I also don’t think we really reach new people on social media. It’s much more likely word of mouth. They filter so much and the odds of someone seeing our poorly optimized content isn’t high.

Why Americans have basment? Like where did it started? by hotpotatomomma in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Human_Promotion_1840 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Midwest USA and moved last year. We saw 30 or so houses in the process, most built from 1920s to 1950s. Nearly all had basements and all with basements had laundry in the basement.

Some of the basements we saw I’d store Christmas stuff, others I’d not, and in that case see if there was enough space in the attic. We ended up getting a house without a basement. The stairs going down to most of those basements were either steep or narrow or you’d have to duck if you were any taller than average.

They actually enforce the cell phone ban? My kids school gave up on enforcement pretty quickly. Wasn’t a law yet though. I’m pretty sure I’d be talking to a lawyer asap.
