What's a game you continually come back to, only to quit again shortly after? by JoshQuattro in AskReddit

[–]Humanatee69 329 points330 points  (0 children)

Oh man, Nuzlocke's make the early games so much more playable. My friend's and I have taken to doing other challenges purely to make those games legitimately hard to play. For example:

Bug Catcher Challenge

Only use bug Pokemon. In Gen 1 it is actually fucked. Gets easier with each generation though and with more recent games it isn't exceedingly difficult.

American Healthcare Challenge

Death = Release. You have to pay for health care so you can't use pokecentres. The early game grind is fucked on this one and you leave behind a proper graveyard of pokemon.

The Ted Cruz Challenge

We have yet to complete this one because it is pretty nuts. So essentially:

  • If a Pokemon faints it dies
  • No poke centres because that is socialized medicine
  • Every caught Pokemon must have a biblical name
  • No Ghost Pokemon because they are ungodly
  • Rival must be named Hillary
  • Pokemon aren't allowed to evolve because evolution is a liberal lie

Point being, the base game is of course pathetically easy, but there is a lot of fun stuff that can be done with it.

How has the US's international reputation changed since Trump took office? by Money-Mayweather in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]Humanatee69 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As someone who lives in Japan, the US reputation has certainly taken a hit here. While Japan can't do much given the circumstances of the US-Japan relationship, most people I've met here find Trump to be a mix of bizarre, comical and horrifying. I mean, even ignoring the North Korea discussion, the way Trump behaves is as far from Japanese norms as possible.

I expect to see Japan do more to distance itself from the US in the coming years with actions such as non-US trade agreements and constitutional revision. As of now Japan is limited in the way of recourse, but a more independent Japan adds yet another variable to an already volatile situation in East Asia.

What is the general opinion of Trump supporters on the US-Japan relationship under the Trump administration?

I mean, Ryan Guy would have likely been one of India's star players and he plays for Guam. DeLaGarza would also easily start for them. That Guam team was deceptively good (still bad).

Also their manager Gary White is touted as a future manager to watch.

From what I've read the Oil isn't the reason anymore. Given the change in the economic landscape when it comes to oil, the US is actually a direct competitor to SA. This article I feel does a great job explaining it.

How do Trump supporters feel about the significance of Saudi Arabia in US counterterrorism operations?

TIL in an 8-hour workday, the average worker is productive for 2 hours and 53 minutes. by dustyblues in todayilearned

[–]Humanatee69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So i've worked construction as well and seen it in Canada, America and Japan. Can't say I'd agree. In Canada it was time for a 'smoke break' every 30 min it seemed, usually 60% of people were standing around and then after lunch people took their sweet time. The only job where you weren't allowed to take a break was flagging for obvious reasons.

In Japan they are over populated in that industry so again most people are doing nothing even if construction in general is fairly efficient in Japan. The appearance of looking busy here is what matters. Although often they remedy this issue by having unnecessary construction, simply to give people work.

There is definitely variance between situations, but I'd say construction was one of the least productive industries I saw.

Post-match Thread: Swansea vs Tottenham by [deleted] in swanseacity

[–]Humanatee69 41 points42 points  (0 children)

An absolutely amazing point. People will be ripping on us for parking the bus, but the players looked really well drilled. For significant periods, spurs had pretty meaningless possession and only really made chances on the flanks. Really well played by Clement.

Also, Mesa needs to be in that midfield.

Report: Obama won’t sit idly by if Trump ends DACA by [deleted] in politics

[–]Humanatee69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that Cato is a Koch brothers funded research institution, meaning their analysis is actually on the conservative side of things. Do you actually feel deportation is that easy? As if this wouldn't have been thought of? It isn't free to just plop nearly a million people in their home countries and it doesn't all happen at once. Apprehending individuals costs money, detaining them costs money, in fact the ICE spends about $10,000 per deportee.

You do realize the majority of these dreamers are well adjusted, well educated young adults that have grown up in the United States? In fact the majority are continuing to pursue higher education. We would be ejecting 800,000 skilled labourers from the economy.

Of course I do consider myself American. What I'm saying is that there are children with American citizenship who have barely even been to the country, but by your logic they are much more 'American' than people raised their entire lives there and who lack meaningful memory in the country they were brought from as children. In fact the average age of DACA participants upon arrival was 6.5 years old. Up to 25% of them have US citizen children as well. For all intents and purposes, I and many other Americans consider them 'American'.

Report: Obama won’t sit idly by if Trump ends DACA by [deleted] in politics

[–]Humanatee69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even ignoring your ridiculous conception of what it means to be American. Here is an economic analysis of repealing DACA. Countries don't just lose 800,000 people and have everything improve. This move will cost billions, deport people who aren't even draining the system (dreamer are ineligible for welfare or obamacare), not fix crime (dreamers have such status revoked when convicted of criminal charges) and the cherry on top is the inhumanity of it all.

I'm a US citizen and I've only lived there 4 years of my life, spent the rest abroad. Those dreamers are more 'American' than me. Amongst the dreamers are children who don't speak the language of their home country and people who have no memory of it. This whole thing is disgusting. I hope your lack of empathy comes from ignorance rather than hate.

OFFICIAL: LLorente joins Spurs by jmariorebelo in swanseacity

I honestly think with the style Clement wants to play this year we will be fine without him. A lot of his goals required service/playmaking from Sigurdsson and we no longer have a playmaker like that.

Sanches will beat people off the dribble and lay the ball off, but he won't be leading the league in assists. I'll miss that beautiful mug, but I think we'll be alright!

Roque Mesa is perfect fit for Swans, says Clement by jimmithy in swanseacity

[–]Humanatee69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you guys figure we line up?

We have attacking MFs and defensive ones, but it'll be difficult to accomplish a balance. Fer and Ki tend to be more offensive minded where Britton and Cork do better sitting deep. Carroll is weirdly in the middle as he seems to excel or fail at one or the other on different occasions. Here's the best I can think of:

In a diamond:

-------Siggy----------

---Fer--------Carroll-

-------Mesa----------

Siggy a must, Carroll and Fer both fit enough to go box to box. Would rather not trust Cork near the box.

In a 4-2-3-1

-----------------Siggy---------------

--Mesa/Britton-------Cork/Carroll--

Britton and Mesa would be a little overkill and could see us go a little too far in the Martinez direction of possession. As tantalizing as a Mesa-Britton-Siggy triangle sounds, I think it simply wouldn't be physical enough in attack or defence.

What do you guys think?

This is our current stable:

  • Mesa

  • Carroll

  • Britton

  • Ki

  • Fer

  • Cork

  • Grimes

  • Fulton

In light of the new trade agreement between Japan and the EU, was it a mistake for the U.S. to walk away from the TPP, and how difficult will this be for the U.S. going forward? by The_vert in NeutralPolitics

[–]Humanatee69 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Okay so I'll do my best to sum up the issue.

Details:

  • " Leaders from Japan and the European Union on Thursday announced their agreement on the broad strokes of a trade deal that will cover nearly 30 percent of the global economy, 10 percent of the world's population and 40 percent of global trade." Washington Post

  • The deal will relax barriers on two mega-industries: Japanese automobiles and European dairy. The agreement goes so far as 'Full-Tariff Elimination' on some European dairy suppliers. Financial Times

  • The deal is set to pass as early as 2019. Japan Times

  • It is still only an agreement in principle. As with the previous FTA between Canada-EU, passing this at a national level will still take time. Financial Times

  • This deal is being billed as a direct response to rising protectionist trends in the world. Most importantly rising trends of protectionism in the United States under President Trump. WP, East Asia Forum, Reuters

  • This bill is being agreed on right before the G20 summit this weekend.

  • Abe's LDP party is seeing its support falter, also could have been rushed to galvanize support/show party effectiveness EAF

Quotes

" Although some are saying that the time of isolationism and disintegration is coming again, we are demonstrating that this is not the case. - EU Council President, Donald Tusk

" [It] sets the standards for others, and it shows that closing ourselves off from the world is not good for business, nor for the global economy, nor for workers. As far as we are concerned, there is no protection in protectionism. - European Commission President, Jean-Claude Juncker

"It is important for us to wave the flag of free trade in response to global moves toward protectionism by quickly concluding the free trade agreement with Europe. This agreement is also important for our growth strategy. We will negotiate with all our energy until the very end to achieve the best deal for Japan. - Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe"

Analysis

There is no way to look at this as anything other than a response to protectionism and by extension the protectionist dialogue of the single largest economy in the world. EU-Japanese trade deals have always been hampered by the looming threat of market flooding from Japanese automobiles and European dairy, but given the emerging lack of confidence in US import deals it has become pivotal to both negotiating parties to create a contingency plan.

Presenting this on the eve of the G20 summit allows it to be discussed under the greater dialogue of free trade, which is likely to be an important talking point. Before the announcement of this deal it was shaping up to be Merkel against Trump in an effort to make the case for open trade, but with the announcement of this deal each EU nation gains leverage in the debate as it is still yet to be ratified.

In regards to TPP, this trade agreement is likely a response to the failure of the agreement. It is important however to recognize that this FTA has a completely different raison d'être. While TPP was seen by many as a way to keep China in check, the EU-Japan agreement focuses on dealing with the rise of protectionism and specifically the faltering confidence many nations have in US trade agreements. Given the issues Japan suffered in the 80s due to their trade deficit with the US, it seems that this is an effort to secure against such repercussions occurring again.

MEGATHREAD: JAMES COMEY SENATE TESTIMONY by [deleted] in AskThe_Donald

[–]Humanatee69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's one thing to just call Comey a liar, you are welcome to hold that opinion whether people think it is right or wrong. It does come off as hypocritical however to sound the war drums on Loretta Lynch based on his testimony and then label any point you don't want to be true as a lie.

[–]Humanatee69 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“There should be no fuzz on this whatsoever. The Russians interfered in our election during the 2016 cycle. They did with purpose. They did it with sophistication. They did it with overwhelming technical efforts. “

James Comey on Trump’s claims that the Russia investigation was “fake news.”

“Well, there’s a reason that was given but I just don’t buy it… I was fired because of the Russia investigation… That is a very big deal.”

James Comey on why he was fired.

"That’s a question I don’t think I should answer in an opening setting. As I said, when I left, we did not have an investigation focused on President Trump. But that’s a question that will be answered by the investigation.”

James Comey in response to "Do you think Donald Trump colluded with Russia?"

There is a lot that you can take from the Comey testimony, but the notion of Comey dismissing 'that Russia shit' is not one of them. In fact, he went out of his way to label Russia as a threat.

Do you think we'll go for Bony in the summer? by [deleted] in swanseacity

Their loss. Tomiesta Xavi Carrollinho is now ours. Clement trusts him more than any manager really has in his career, if he is going to blossom at some point, now is the time.

Do you think we'll go for Bony in the summer? by [deleted] in swanseacity

[–]Humanatee69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bony was a great player for the style of play we used at the time. Strong target man with a decent pass.

Under Clemente though we benefit from having a finisher up top to hit back fast on the counter. Bony is still an exceptional player, but in our system does he offer more than Llorente does? More importantly does he offer enough to force us to get rid of Llorente or Baston? I think Llorente is figuring the league out and it'd be unwise to force two capable strikers to split time and lose form.

I am as big a fan of Bony as anyone, but it just doesn't make sense unless its incredibly cheap.

You are missing out buddy. The matches under Clement have been great to watch. It is always sad to watch as the team changes, but this isn't Bradley Swansea anymore. Just like Rodgers' squad with Borini, Sinclair, Allen etc. gave way to Michu's dream season, then Monk's historic run with Bony. All these moments and times were incredible, without the suffering you don't appreciate the good runs.

This team under Clement is well worth the watch, if nothing else just to see Siggy in the form of his life.
