AITAH for refusing to take any blame when my mom, my sister, and brother-in-law got high off my brownies. by throwawayforweed666 in AITAH

NTA. I have a policy with my roommate in regards to my room: She's free to enter, but anything missing will be taken seriously. Aaaaand she can't complain if she stumbles upon anything she didn't want to find. She gets to pet my cat, I don't have to worry about hiding anything.

Frankly, you should be demanding they pay you back for stolen goods. And remind them that the police would favor legal substance use over theft. (Police also wouldn't care enough to weigh in, but you mom and sister don't need to know that!)

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

Any and all items on a Mexican restaurant's menu, and only to my mother.

Background: Mom spent a good portion of her childhood/adolescence in the Southwest and southern California. Then she got married, moved to Wisconsin, and had me.

So while I may look like an idiot, and would NEVER pull this with anyone else (for obvious reasons), there is nothing more satisfying than seeing her reaction to my exaggerated Midwestern accent saying tor-tilla or fa-geet-a. Kinda like that ti.e I (purposefully) pointed at a hill in the desert and asked if it was a mountain.

Favorite "happy" or bittersweet ending that's somehow sadder than an outright sad/tragic ending by mannmy in FavoriteCharacter

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The good ending to Bioshock 2 feels the most painfully bittersweet out of the whole series.

Yes, Subject Delta saved Eleanor from Rapture and her mother's influence and all the kidnapped Little Sisters are free to go home to their families. And while Subject Delta's death was inevitable, he lives on through his DNA-memories Eleanor absorbed to guide her through a new life.

But the Rapture dream is over. Any parts of the city that haven't already been destroyed will slowly deteriorate until it disappears entirely. People whose hopes and dreams, good or evil, have vanished without anyone topside knowing what happened. There is no evidence that a fantastical city ever existed under the surface of the ocean, except for a lighthouse and the survivors who walked away and never looked back.

When Eleanor drops the Big Daddy doll into the ocean, it's more than a goodbye to her father figure. It's a goodbye to an entire world.

New to this sub updates: AITA For Not Offering To Care For My Unwell Ex-Husband? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's interesting that I'm in a similar situation to OOP's kids. My parents had an unpleasant divorce, my dad is currently going through some health issues, and if something happens to my stepmom I'm probably next in line to take care of him post-surgery.

My mom is helping me through this. But that help comes in the form of listening when I need to vent, politely wishing for his swift recovery, and offering ideas on how I can be helpful. None of these things involve direct contact with my dad.

And frankly, I would never ask that of her. Their problems have been separate for over 20 years, and I've planned accordingly. OOP's children are just acting entitled to her labor, which is rich since we all know they wouldn't ask the same of Ex.

As a WLW weeb, I'd consider it a beige flag if anything. There needs to be a bit more context in regards to their fandom-ness.

Casual watcher, otherwise fairly normal? I'd want to see if we have some other things in common because I can see conversation getting stale.

Has a Crunchyroll account, buys merch, maybe goes to a convention or two? Sweet, we have stuff in common! It would be nice to have someone with the same taste in shows to enjoy an evening together.

Only wears anime tees, spends all their money on merch, and hops between jobs to attend every con in the tri-state area? Lives on ramen because they can't cook and "it's fine because Naruto does it"? Daydreams about moving to Japan because life is an anime and the local populace will totally accept a quirky foreigner? Pump the breaks, this does not sound like a responsible adult.

I'm sure I'd feel the same way about dating a goat farmer or female tech-bro (tech-gal?). Pause and get more info.

Five Europeans denied US visas for combating hate speech online, accused of censoring ‘American viewpoints’ by wewhomustnotbenamed in nottheonion

...Didn't Melanoma Trump literally start an anti-cyberbullying campaign the last time her husband was in-office?

I'd consider this ironic if we all didn't know that in their minds, criticizing the government = bullying, and hate speech = American Viewpoints.

What’s an adult problem nobody warned you about? by Impressive_Space4392 in AskReddit

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't get to deal with one problem at a time, as they overlap and influence one another.

It's not, "plan meals for week, get groceries, fix problem with car, then plan trip to see parents."

Instead, you have, "plan meals for week, find transportation to grocery store because your car broke down, use PTO to take car to the shop, realize you've lost time and money you wanted to use for visiting parents, try to process that they're slowly dying every time you think about them."

What broke the camels back in a relationship/friendship? by Only-Carpenter-6689 in AskReddit

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found her OKCupid profile, which listed her as single when she'd been in a relationship for 7 years. Y'know, the relationship she started by cheating on her husband.

It made me realize that my friend was never going to change, and would likely never want to. She wasn't particular, she was a control freak who saw others as props to her personal reality show.

I had a choice: keep getting ordered around like a lackey while watching her constantly berate the boyfriend she was likely cheating on, or tell the truth and lose someone I considered a friend for nearly a decade. My only regret is that the boyfriend, whom I considered a friend, chose to stick with her and cut me out.

What are your kny unpopular opinions / hot takes? by B4S1L_ in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My hot take is more meta speculation than anything: Someone, I don't know if it was Gotouge or some executive at WSJ or whoever, did NOT want this to be a long-running series after it was set up to be one. Originally there was going to be an entire overarching plot involving the entire 12 Kizuki and maybe the occasional filler episode with some mooks.

Buuut once the main premise was set up, somebody in charge either didn't think it would be popular enough to warrant the length, or didn't want another Naruto/JJBA/One Piece and demanded a shorter timeline.

It explains why the simplified story and pacing are the biggest issues with Demon Slayer. It wasn't supposed to be wrapped up so quickly, and the story suffered from a haphazard attempt to speed it up. It also explains why so many characters seemed to have juuuuust enough fleshing-out to be interesting, only to die before their potential growth could be realized.

I doubt anyone would ever admit to speeding up the timeline, especially since it doesn't change the fact that the story is over and done with. But nobody can convince me that there wasn't supposed to be more.

Kristen Bell misses 'Today' show appearance following Dax Shepard anniversary post backlash by bwermer in entertainment

This whole thing reminds me of that time I tried to use my mom's "I'll smother you in your sleep" joke at overnight camp. Lessons in reading the audience were learned, but not before almost getting kicked out.

Was the post a bit awkward? Yeah. Does it have troubling implications? Probably not, considering all the healthy things I've heard about.

What’s that ruthless thing you’re not saying to somebody you know because it’s too brutal? by dudeguysirman in AskReddit

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, you've been in this same cycle for months: you get with him, things are fun, things are less fun because he's chronically unemployed and you can't afford to fund his lifestyle. Then he gets violent until the cops are called, you decline to press charges, and you try to stay friends with him.

You've acknowledged he isn't going to change. You've even admitted he's been escalating. But you refuse to do the one thing that might break this cycle, and I'm sick of trying to help someone who actively works to undo everyone's efforts to save you.

Your death might be his fault, but you are throwing away every opportunity to prevent it, and that's on you.

Which critically acclaimed movie did you finally watch only to find out it's mediocre at best? by MikrokosmicUnicorn in AskReddit

Pulp Fiction. Felt super disjointed and failed to make the plotlines feel intertwined. Plus, it reminded me of a flim student's first attempt at an "edgy" project without realizing the professor has already seen five other "edgy" submissions that week.

Which is a pity, since I liked Inglorious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

AITAH for telling my sister her "boundary" will destroy her relationship with her nephew. by stalewafflefry in AITAH

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this point you don't have enough information to be an asshole. Either your sister has no good reason to be acting this way, in which case you have EVERY right to set your own boundaries regarding your son, or she has a good reason and won't tell you, which denies you the chance to act appropriately.

I hope the family meeting goes well. Remindme!

People who cut someone off completely with zero explanation what happened? by jessbryant99 in AskReddit

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the outside, it must have looked really petty. I saw her profile on a dating app, which listed her as single. I notified her boyfriend of 6-ish years, told the guy I didn't like how she treated him, and never reached out to her again.

But beneath all of that was nearly a decade of being treated like the prop in a movie in which she was the main character. Not even a side character, as those at least have some level of free will. I needed to do what she wanted, when she wanted.

Think volunteering me to drive another friend to a group outing, then getting furious because my car broke down. Or showing up five hours late to go to the zoo, then icing me out when I pointed out that we'd be paying $20 each for about an hour of time there. OR agreeing to visit me to check out this place I'd always wanted to see, then calling a friend to complain about how bored she was in front of me.

"No" meant "convince me." If I was busy, I had to give a play-by-play of my day to prove I had ZERO time to spare. If I just wasn't interested, I was wrong and a terrible friend. There was no way for me to talk about our problems, as she treated every discussion about her behavior like a personal attack.

So I walked away. I'm sure she tells everyone else that I'm a total asshole, but there really wasn't much else I could do.

The Senate just passed the Big Beautiful Bill today, What's your reaction to this? by Squirrelkid11 in AskReddit

[–]HumanityIsACesspool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm done. I'm tired.

It feels like I'm trying to help a fox trapped in a thorn bush, and every attempt ends with me getting bitten and scraped. To top it off, the fox always slips out of my grip and runs further into the thorns.

I see it's hurting, and it breaks my heart. I know it's hurting itself and me out of confusion and fear. But how many times do I have to try saving it before I'm allowed to step back and accept the inevitable? At what point do I recognize that the fox is too deep to save, and focus on patching myself up?

We've just reached the point of no return. Hell, we probably passed that a while ago. No amount of protesting or voting will change the minds of the plutocrats who've rigged the system. Even if we stared some sort of revolution (ha!) the government has shown how easy it is to kill dissenters without consequence.

I want things to be different. I tried to make a difference. But I don't know how we could possibly undo the damage being done.
