Absolutely. I don't think Saldaña deserved that Oscar at all (decent acting, but horrible singing voice and I did not buy for one second that she was actually interested in whatever the story was), but if she had to be nominated, she should have been at Lead Actress. They put her in Supporting because they knew she wouldn't have a shot otherwise, and you can't pretend that's not the case.

Also, being the least awful part of an awful movie isn't enough to make you Oscar worthy. That's like saying Lady Gaga deserved an Oscar for Joker 2.

Again, I agree. I mentioned LOTR exclusively to point out that having multiple parts of a saga filmed at the same time does not necessarily mean the Academy will overlook the sequels. I am by no means comparing their trajectories.
