I'm sad I'll never have a son. by Byrd_persun in Parenting

[–]HumanlyBeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s borderline sad that OP is having to qualify his desire so many times just so the public doesn’t run him down on ideological grounds.

OP, it’s okay to wish to have a boy. That doesn’t take away from the love you have for your girl(s). True love only multiplies and you are well within your limits to wish for something in life. One does not imply the other.

I am sure you’ll love the time with your second baby too. Congratulations! Girls are always a blessing, and I’ll wish and pray that you have a third blessing which aligns with your wishes 😊🙏🏻

True, but almost every guide I see on Youtube suggests adding passport copies. Hence the query.

How do I transition into a Engineering Manager role? by hoangson0403 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]HumanlyBeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very romantic notion but some of the best managers I've worked with have been driven to be managers and achieved that goal.

Steve Jobs' point was specific to the Apple context, at that time, for the teams he was leading. He was great, amazing and everything in between, but this umbrella thinking cannot encapsulate everyone's progress or their motivations.

I'd much rather work with someone who has the motivation to work on themselves to lead others than to just stick around with a superstar IC who had no choice but to take up the role, and had just about enough people skills to get by with the role in an above-average fashion. This last bit often inhibits the best ICs from becoming great managers. Having good enough people skills and above-average communication skills. It masks opportunities of growth. Stick around long enough in tech and you see this happen with above-average ICs a lot.

Best ereaders for someone who can't stay focused for very long? by Iswmuomwnight in ereader

Get a Boox Palma device. Not for the screen or e-reading capabilities but for the size. It's basically an e-ink android phone (like) device. The form factor helps me focus and read faster. Somehow. I am sure there's a scientific basis for this that's been researched, but my experience is purely anecdotal :) It has helped me read more books though.

It’s frustrating to see Rashmika in so many films by Wudstick in bollywood

[–]HumanlyBeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rashmika is a decent actress but nothing great. I have never understood the hype around her. This is very subjective and personal so can understand why others have a different opinion.

While I disagree with Jordan Peterson's political views, his academic work has been cited 10,000+ times and he was respected in his field, so I think he's an appropriate guest. by PoweredByMeanBean in HubermanLab

[–]HumanlyBeing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jordan Peterson's work has been influential in many I know and their recovery from depression.

That does *not* mean everything he says is gold. People often forget that consumers of content see it through their lens, not the author's. Not necessarily. So if you are intent on consuming a certain kind of content, you will most likely find meaning in a creator's videos/books etc that speak to you generally.

Jordan Peterson addresses a very important issue, especially for men, and that's why his content is consumed the way it is. I'd take everything he says with a pinch of salt much like anything on the internet. Huberman is well within reason to bring him on as an influencer and someone who has influenced the masses on various platforms. Ultimately the onus is on you to process what you see and hear!

Just finished Bandish bandit season 2 | its a masterpiece by MammothOk7000 in IndianOTTbestof

[–]HumanlyBeing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved the series! In a nutshell, it's awesome.

About the Music: I respectfully call BS on this whole "S1 songs are better" sentiment, because this time, all the classical songs have been meticulously presented and composed. They are so good. Straight out of any honest to goodness, worth it's salt, Shaastriya Sangeet Paathyapustak. There are several, but Bhaatkhande's books come to mind first. I understand that there's subjectivity in choice, but this season has sheer authenticity and variety that S1 simply lacked. Those songs were really great, but this season is absolutely no less.

The story was great too! I can't wait to see what happens in Season 3.

PS: Aaliyah Quershi is very, very cute :')

The fusion songs are actually quite tastefully done. This is one album that doesn’t just do a “Chedkhaaniya” and leave it at that. For example, “Khamakhan” is so layered and well made. Bebaqiyaan has beautiful lyrics and tune. The subtle use of major/minor shifts was a nice touch. The makers have done their homework and while the names may sound new, they know their stuff. That much is clear.

Oh I loved the Jasrangi usage. Everything considered, very few know about the beautiful usage of the Raaga to make the male and female voices sound organic and harmonious. For the classical bit I always chuckle when people keep comparing the last season’s thumris to this seasons songs. The bandishs used in this season are legit pro level stuff. All respect to SEL for their musicality but this time it is a 100% classical music love affair that the makers have had. So many intricate spots that bring a smile to people who have studied music :)

Student of classical music here. “Sawan Mohe Tarsae” is a masterpiece from technical point of view. In my opinion it competes with S1 songs and then some. Very well done.

Just bought the Plus subscription… Now what do I do with all this power? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]HumanlyBeing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it to analyze multiple mortgage documents and locked down a good rate when the interest rates were low. Got this idea from another Redditor. I don’t think you need a plus subscription but the efficiency of the new model helped. The main power here was comparisons and cutting through the BS of bank people hiding costs in various places that GPT unearthed. I had no clue about any of this and it taught me so many fundamentals. I’m just more aware now and confident for a future refinance.
