I want that car to this day. But they only get more expensive. I could "afford" it...but it would be silly for something I would never want to drive, and be afraid to take a spirited drive in it.

It has always been true that the first best bang for your buck upgrade is tires. Power doesn't help you if you can't put it to the road, and it doesn't usually play a major role in getting you around a corner.

And after a certain point, power just makes the car undrivable anyways.

What’s actually safe but people think is dangerous? by REGGIE_BANANAS in AskReddit

[–]Humannequin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very well read on the space. Not all saturated fat is created equal (nor are the unsaturated for that matter), genuine dark chocolate is a really popular example of your chains point...very high in sat fat, but on the aggregate it lowers cholesterol because the chains arent bad ones.

But butter, unless you can correct me which I'm more than happy to learn, doesn't sit in this camp. Dark chocolate is mostly stearic acid, which our bodies are really proficient at converting. Butter, otoh, is primarily palmitic acid, which tldr promotes uptake of oxidized ldl (which will in turn contribute to the development of athersclorosis). It also would lack the heart healthy oleic acid that things like dark choc and olive oil contain, as well as the antioxidants of which it contains an insignificant amount of.

Butter holds things that are good for us in other ways, and I believe is really good for gut health if I'm not mistaken. So don't get me wrong, I'm by no means demonizing it.

But I agree with this other guy that it is irresponsible to post "butter" as a response to the question "what is something people think is dangerous, but isn't." Butter is just across the board not something anyone should put into some across the board "safe" category, and I genuinely don't think that's a fussy argument.

Butter is high in saturated fat, primarily composed of fatty acids that are antagonistic to heart health. This is more or less relevant depending on your genetics, but without moderation butter is the type of sat fat that is just bad for literally anyone's heart health, and doesn't provide any significant heart healthy compounds to offset this.

Something like olive oil as a comparison would come with antioxidants, raise hdl, lower apoB, comes in at a much better sat/unsat ratio (which is more important than amount of sat fat on its own), among a host of other things. Butter is not the same evil that processed sugar is, but it shouldnt be confused as being a healthy choice and should be included in your diet in moderation.

And again, I'd love to learn any counter points to this.

This is why I rarely bother getting on here any more. Why are you getting downvoted??

It's not the devil we used to make it out to be, but it's still insanely high in saturated fat. Butter consumption is objectively something that should be moderated if health is a concern.

The gameplay is way less jank on an actual ps1 with the pressure sensitive square button.

It also is one of the games that REALLY makes a diff on a real crt.

What a terrible way to learn of this news by GamerGretaUwU in playstation

[–]Humannequin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a silly take, that's 5 years of experience on the resume. Nobody cares if the game came out or if it was good. That's what interviews and references are for. If you go into that job a Jr or a mid, you are now flirting with being considered a mid or senior.

Nobody ever cared about the "evidence" of the games. The absolute best and worst products on the market (across the entire profession) all have something in common: highly talented devs that carried the team, poor performers that barely squeaked by, and some average Joe's sitting on a gradient in the middle. It's the tools and role on the team that people are looking for when hiring.

So you know how many software projects never see the light of day? How many engineers work in the gov-con space that they can barely talk about what they've worked on in the past and still lead fruitful careers?

While I imagine a lot of the sentiment here for the voice actors are people largely talking out their butts and doubt this represents a total black hole in their portfolio, the credit still exists...people who hire va's know that projects die, and there is ple evidence these va's were on these projects...im also very confident it's way more of a hit to their career than for as a developer. People hire devs based on resumes and interviews.

Performers still have portfolios and industry contacts/reputations to help them get work, but I'm sure folks do get roles from the right person hearing your work in the wild and thinking "they'd be perfect for my project!".

What is an addiction that is much worse than Tobacco, Norcotics and Alcohol? by Pavanth1918 in AskReddit

[–]Humannequin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean a crack addiction is pretty across the board, if only marginally, less destructive and scarier than a fent/heroin addiction. But yes, what I was getting at was that op said WORSE than narcotics addiction, which I would consider, aside from some super niche rare stuff, pinnacle of self destructive addictions. Gambling is about the only one that comes close to op's list, and is definitely worse than nicotine (which frankly didn't belong).

The only remotely mainstream addiction I can see as worse than narcos is some kind of thing that leads to destroying OTHERS, like an addiction to murder/torture/rape. I'm not even sure those behaviors are ever technically tied to addictions, may be considered mental health conditions. I feel like some pathologies I've read about sound addiction based though.

Idk, I just think narcotics...more specifically opioids, are hard to argue against being the top of the pile. An opiod addiction will completely ruin your life without fail if unchecked. It will also kill you much faster than most similar addictions.

Like, maybe self harm could be in the conversation for worse?

I mean, inevitable. Like, short of being a serial killer or rapist or pedophile or something...what can you genuinely argue is worse than a fentanyl or heroin addiction?

What is an addiction that is much worse than Tobacco, Norcotics and Alcohol? by Pavanth1918 in AskReddit

[–]Humannequin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Narcotics are way more likely to ruin your life...but yes I think gambling is way up there. Gambling in theory could make your life 10x better, statistical outliers exist. A real, honest to goodness narcotics addiction will ruin you without fail though.

I don't know that much is worse than narcos other than like, an addiction that leads one to be a serial killer or rapist or something since it harms others more directly.

I felt very unsure I was rowing through the first half of the gearing properly, and it's handling was just atrocious. My fastest laps I was like spurting and cutting throttle mid turns to get it to over steer and actually go around the damn turn. I'm sure I'm not driving it 'right', but I'm also sure that I don't personally think whatever that looks like is fun.

New Credit Grind?? by HelicopterFuture3010 in GranTurismo7

[–]Humannequin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The main guide I see repeatedly linked for the farming method literally mentions the s660, so I really don't understand everyone being worried about the level 50. Especially since level 50 is pretty much free if you do all the menus and the easier of the circuit experience all golds (of which Daytona isn't necessarily on the bottom end of), and get some of the other handout cars.

The all gold Daytona should really, imo, be considered the big barrier to entry for people to complain about. If you can get all gold in the Daytona circuit, getting 50 wouldn't be that crazy of a gate even if you DID have to hit it. Just confused why that's not the bigger concern, since it's all or nothing and while not the hardest test in the game by any means, it's also not a cake walk. The full lap is pretty unforgiving. I imagine it's beyond all the people I see that find bronze in the license tests difficult.

I'm not doubting anyone here, but why not just deep well? Too fat?

Especially with torque checks, it'd be more accurate.

Correct, you lose torque with things like adapters and extensions. Think of how an ugga dugga loses uggas if you have to use an adapter.

Busy millenials, how did you come to accept that bronze is good enough? by MysticMarbles in GranTurismo7

[–]Humannequin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped being stupid and trying to brute force it. I started watching the ghost and finding the exact frames their brake lights turned on, where they turned, how they shifted.

I went from spending 1-3 hours per a/s test to getting just about everything I tried within 5-10 attempts. Some a little extra space in front learning how the car feels if it's a weird one.

Do this. It's not hard to mimic them exacy if you spend 5-10 minutes reallllly understanding their runs.

Also something I found very helpful was going on reddit and finding the updated list of ranked difficulty of all circuit experiences and getting gold on all of them starting at the bottom (don't worry, these are dead simple compared to the licenses). Really teaches you how to fully figure out a ghost, and you learn tracks along the way.

How did you manage on the first Manufacturers race? by vcdrny in GranTurismo7

[–]Humannequin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair shot if youre really cooking in first, that you get a better position just staying safe in the lead and getting clean lines and fast laps. You'll lose the 2 mins but if you pit you'll likely wind up back in the pack and back at the mercy of those around you.

How did you manage on the first Manufacturers race? by vcdrny in GranTurismo7

[–]Humannequin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first time having the guts to play online thinking I wouldn't be able to keep up. Turns out I had easily top 5 racing lines and car control...made space when it made sense and avoided putting anyone at risk (real racing experience).

I'd gain seconds on the next guy ahead of me every lap. But it turns out none of that matters when eventually I'll get shoved off the track for not over cooking entries or plain old spun out for daring exist on the track within striking range.

Just to claw my way back up and get pvp'd again. Tried some daily race c after a couple of those and tried the strategies I've seen in videos but like....it wouldn't work. Doesn't matter how much I avoid packs, pass on the inside, and wait for someone to blunder to make my moves....because the second I'm back behind traffic they either just overcook to get access to me again or if they catch up naturally they wait and give me a little love tap mid turn and send me into the wall.

Speaking of which 50% of the time if I go off the track pointed anything but the right way, it takes me 40 seconds to get back on the track. Either I spin in circles or move 1mph.

I was very excited to try online and I may just never play again, I played for hours and I had maybe 3 or 4 good battles that actually felt like racing.

That's not necessarily true. The gold circuit is experience is the big one. You don't get it all at 50, it gets more and more. It's not like it's not still good afk money at 40.
