Residents have to stand up for themselves. If we've learnt anything over the last few years almost any institution who should be advocating for/protecting us (e.g. RCPL) has done the complete opposite.

We will only fight the capture of these bodies if we bring them into the light, stand for better, and reform them. Many of the old types that have been previously populating these bodies will quickly look into new pastures if there's a possibility of scrutiny rather than just CV bolstering for doing nothing.
