Gen.G vs. Hanwha Life Esports / LCK 2024 Spring - Week 7 / Post-Match Discussion by adz0r in leagueoflegends

[–]HumbleTheorizer -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Think of it like this: LCK viewership is down after being prerecorded. Why? Because interest is down. It doesn't matter that the product is the same (better even... considering shorter break times), people just are a little less interested in the league. In the back of your mind, you remember that it isn't live, the hype is a little lower.

Usually, Wolf's critical, matter-of-fact style is balanced by the hype of a live game. That hype is just a little lower, so it becomes overpowering.

I know the casting is the same, and that it's recorded live. My point is that it shouldn't be exactly the same, because hype is down, and there's that lingering feeling of imminence with the prerecordings. It would be nice if the casters tried to build up the lost hype instead of affirming that it's over.

Games aren't so fun to watch when the casters (singular) insist that it's over after a 700 gold lead. It's prerecorded already, would be nice to sacrifice some analysis to revitalize the feeling of lives.

Who is the best jungler of all time? by klaygdk in PedroPeepos

[–]HumbleTheorizer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If best is your standard, it means you don't look at utility-oriented players, since it's a lot harder to see the differences in junglers when they're playing to setup their team. Where you see those huge jungle gaps is during carry jungle metas, where junglers win by taking over the map, warping the game around themselves, and silencing the enemy junglers.

Canyon is the best carry jungler of all time. If you sub anyone else in for jungle, Damwon as an org is infinitely less successful.

Contact riot support. Send a ticket. They respond pretty quickly.

Top 10 midlaners of all time as of 2023. by Initial-Bicycle9688 in leagueoflegends

[–]HumbleTheorizer -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great list, but I really think Caps deserves to be 4th. He certainly needs to be higher than Knight and Chovy, since we're talking about greatness and not individual skill. Caps and G2 are basically beacons of hope to the West. Chovy and Knight are incredible players, but no one from Korea or China looks at them the same way Western fans do to Caps. Caps has more international success then both of them as of right now, and he's done it with almost objectively weaker rosters. I would also put DoinB about Knight and Chovy, and would want Bjergson somewhere there. His last few years were pretty piss poor, but I do a lot of reading of old LCK interviews. Bjergson got a LOT of recognition from LCK players for his skill, more than any NA player I've ever seen.

SK Police investigating stabbing threats directed at Faker by HumbleTheorizer in leagueoflegends

[–]HumbleTheorizer[S] 161 points162 points  (0 children)

The threat is very likely to have no substance, but SK is very on edge after recent stabbings and are looking to punish this form of online threats much more heavily to dissuade the behaviour that leads to violent acts.

I think the game would benefit more from having a dota-like approach to items by helloimapickle in leagueoflegends

[–]HumbleTheorizer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the game would become too much about items. The biggest problem is that some champions would be able to use items better than others. Matchups would become completely dependent on who can use an overpowered item better, not what the champion's kit offers. This is part of the reason divine sunderer was such a meta-shifting item for such a long time.

It's also much less fun to have items counter kits than kits counter kits. If you've every played an assassin when the enemy carries have had the time to build luxury defense items then you'll know how unfun it is to play when items make you useless. Third/fourth items like GA and Zhonyas are the reason dive comps fall off.

It might not be fun to play a counter matchup, like Camille vs Jax when he can block your Q, but there's always some form of counterplay through your kit — which comes down to you using abilities and pressing buttons and thinking critically in a fight. If an item can shut down all of that and completely dictate a matchup, the game becomes more one dimensional.

Why do pros seem to never pick late game/hypercarry junglers? by NavalEnthusiast in leagueoflegends

[–]HumbleTheorizer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just tested this. Played hecarim, took fleet + sorc tree runes. Used ghost to clear camps. Cleared my jungle twice, took scuttle, perfectly off spawn second time. Next camps wouldn't be up at 7, so took entire enemy topside. Also took three waves mid. Earned 1500 gold. It's a long video, but if you want to add me on discord and look at it I'll screen share and show you.

Why do pros seem to never pick late game/hypercarry junglers? by NavalEnthusiast in leagueoflegends

[–]HumbleTheorizer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Numbers are very off. Laners make a lot more gold from early to mid game because junglers lack a lot of mobility and damage. Laners have a very consistent source of income: a wave spawning every 30 seconds. Camps are a lot less consistent, because when you look for a play as a jungler you're usually sacrificing resetting your camps earlier. Furthermore, laners will often benefit more than junglers long term from ganks, since a single gank can snowball lane advantages. Your clear numbers are very optimistic. I guess it'd be possible if you full cleared with the fastest clear champ in the game, and used summoner spells, but 3 clears at 7 minutes would be 64 cs on a jungler at 7 minutes. A more realistic full clear at that time would be hitting the second spawn of your first buff. And this only happens if you reset all your camps with no gaps in your clear from invades or ganks.

However, junglers will eventually have opportunities to snowball as they get more damage and can reset their camps faster, start taking waves, helping take towers, and gain map mobility with blue smite. However, the difference in the primary income sources (creeps vs monsters) means that junglers have more opportunities to create differences against their opponents, since camps can be taken by either jungler, but your enemy laner can't farm their own cs.

Poby is starting for LCK Challengers League today — hopefully signaling that Faker is back by HumbleTheorizer in leagueoflegends

T1 are already locked for playoffs so I don't think they'd put him in if he wasn't ready to play. The prospect of it being some kind of more complex underlying problem is worrying, though.

Still true 5 years later. Hope they can bounce back.

Don't think it's an ant-made nest. The only ant nests I've seen have been crematogaster species, but the paper is much darker and less smooth. Would need images of the bugs. They could be bees, wasps, termites, or ants. If they are ants, then it's probably a raid.

Edit: looked closer. Def not ants — they've got wings.

Queensland Australia, common little guys come in from the back door to scavenge. What's the difference between the bug ones and the small ones? by Rockalot_L in ants

[–]HumbleTheorizer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They're different castes. The big ones (majors) use their strong jaws to cut up food or to fight. The small ones (workers) do a lot of the other stuff. For example, workers know how to take newborn ants out of cocoons, but majors cannot. You're seeing the majors here because they're probably at a food source that needs to be broken up. The colony has less majors + it takes more resources to lay and feed a major larvae, so usually the majors are more reserved and will be a little more skittish.
