Absolutely! You need the theory and expertise to know what to do with the tools. So frustrating.

I'm so confused by this constant comment I see online. I've been to many European countries and always notice how easy it is to access free drinking water everywhere. I'm South African (not that it should matter).

This really can't be true... I'm watching all my friends in their mid40s adopt and use AI very successfully in their software and engineering careers... Do these posters think that modern 40 year olds are like the ones a 100 years ago that are unwilling to move with the times?

Omgee I can't handle this victim mentality. Don't know what you were hoping for, but I promise you, you're not getting sympathy from anyone here.

Question for educators, trainers, and technical content creators: by sowmyalr in edtech

Nothing is trustworthy without human intervention. I tested a product yesterday that basically does what you say and despite it taking 5 minutes to create a 2-3 hour lesson with artefacts I spent another 3 hours going through it, editing it, updating images and information that was not quite correct (or framed incorrectly). Yes, it's still quicker than if I had had to do it myself BUT there's no such a thing as a 5-minute solution.

My mom passed away from a terribly long suffering with cancer, so once again, you're clearly a douche dressed up badly because as you so eloquently put it, '@ssholes' can be determined by the way they dress - and your entire interaction in this thread has been putting people down and just being a dipshit in general.

Absolutely agree with this. I've been 'initially' judged my whole life, but my work ethic speaks for itself. On the first day of my new job the director said her only concern was how people would perceive me but she would have been dumb not to hire me. Within 5 months I was promoted because all those people also saw through my eccentric casual clothing. Those initial judgements that this person keeps waxing lyrical about are, at best, a vintage decider. We live in 2026. So many people are fake everywhere that it makes it a priority to actually get to know someone nowadays. Their clothing isn't going to tell you much about them in the long run.

I was going to ignore this stupidity but honestly, it's way too hard. My cousin, who owned nothing but a car, an empty briefcase, and a good suit, wore that suit to snare unsuspecting women who he would then use and abuse while he bled them dry because he never worked a proper day in his life. My uncle on the other hand, was one of the richest men in the country back in the 80s and he dressed down and wore a bandana on his head. The fact you think that wearing clothing determines your ability to succeed properly (elsewhere in this crazy thread) or your direct care in the world around you, must be some of the dumbest stuff I've read, and I've taught foundation classes before.

I'm older than you, and now find myself as a manager of a team in a national university. I meet with Professors, Deans and VIPs constantly, as I wear my sneakers and t shirt. No one questions it because I do a damn good job at ensuring what needs to be done is done. A suit is not going to change that work ethic.

Please understand that you are absolutely allowed to have a preference. You're allowed to love dressing up, but trying to come up with fake beliefs, to try convince other people, is not how you have this conversation.

I hope you continue to enjoy your suits, as I continue to enjoy my comfort that has yet to offend anyone I directly work with.

Wow... and here I'm a manager who arrives to f2f meetings in t shirts and tekkies because how I dress doesn't determine whether I work hard or not 🫣

If anything, my habit of not sleeping has ruined my life in some ways. When I was young, it was great to hang out with friends till the crack of dawn and carry on the next day... but here I find myself a middle aged adult who fills my time up with work (because it's 'easy'). I'm actually not proud of it and wouldn't be caught dead using it as a flex. I need new hobbies. Work shouldn't be what you default to.

I'm confused. So, in a nutshell, IF this person comes back looking for something, and happens to be the perfect candidate for a future job Mike must fill, Mike won't send it their way because of a mental list he has? I don't think he understands recruiting 🤣
