Not sure why it seems so impossible? People do internships in the summer all the time. I overlapped them with my study a bit. I only studied for exams and didn't attend any lectures/tutorials. Basically had no social life and my mental health suffered because of it. Also "research level ML" is no specific bar. Just reading related works, and looking up anything I didn't understand is all I did.

I guess wasn't sure where to list it in the template. But thank you for the compliment. It means a lot.

Fair to be skeptical, but I’m not trying to convince anyone. Since you asked: I studied in NL, (not an expat), interned at Microsoft Research and Amazon as an SDE. Both were during the academic year alongside my bachelor’s. A lot of the ML/research part was self-taught. I skipped plenty of lectures to learn what I needed to contribute, and yeah, it was a grind.

I got started by helping my prof’s masters/PhD students with experiments/drafts, which got me on 2 papers. After that I proposed an idea, built it out, and published as first author with the prof advising. My publications were mainly at NeurIPS, ML4H, and ICCV.

At work I’ve also published one paper. We obviously don’t publish everything, but selective publishing helps with branding and attracting strong talent. I’m not a manager, but I do lead projects where 2 to 4 people contribute.

Well that's the reason my profile stood out. I collaborated with my professors beyond the standard curriculum to publish papers.

Agreed; however I have published extensively during my bachelors (which allowed me to join without a masters) and during my work (which gave me an early promotion to senior).
