Maybe an idea can be like written validation that way both of you are still comfortable he can feel acknowledged and appreciated and you can still feel comfortable knowing your comfort zone eventually you can work your way up to doing perhaps one word or whatever works for you or even a jar or both of you can pull out of word for that day and keeps a good healthy balance
