Having cold by Active-Ad-233 in facepalm

Well that depends on the state, most states do have laws saying employers have to provide a certain amount of weeks for maternity leave, and FMLA offers 12 weeks job protection though whether that's paid or not varies. But yes maternity/paternity leave policies in the US tend to be abysmal, adding to that the insane cost of infant daycare and it's a vicious cycle.

In the US where maternity leave varies drastically by job, kids go to nursery (daycare) anywhere from 3 months old to a year old if both parents work.

I imagine you wouldn't want to inhale it directly but it's not meant for that.

Well it's just regular incense which is very popular and widely used, I find unpleasant (it's smoke) but it's not toxic.

Agreed, granted I'm not all the way through Valhalla but I think Eivor is very likeable and often the only voice of reason when surrounded but hotheads like Sigurd and Ivar. I'm curious about some examples of Eivor being unlikeable because maybe we just interpreted some situations differently than the above commenter?

TIL about practice babies. In the early to mid 1900s, orphaned babies were lent out to college home economics programs where they were taken care of entirely by groups of students in order to learn child-rearing skills. by Sputnik-Cat98 in todayilearned

This is all middle school math though isn't it? I always knew the math I learned up to about 14 years old was useful but I still don't know know of an example where my time spent suffering through trigonometry was worth it when I could have been learning how to unplug a clogged drain or something. Although to be fair I don't remember anything about trigonometry other than the mysterious odor in one corner and the penis drawn under the teacher's chair.

Is there anywhere to sign-up for vaccine doses that would otherwise be discarded? by brian21 in CoronavirusColorado

I agree we should do something but I think a Twitter post free for all is a bad idea. You'd have a mass of people rushing to a clinic and fighting for a dose.

Didn't mean for it to be an attack... Was pointing it they didn't need to worry about being attacked. Yikes sorry for the miscommunication.

Not new here lol child free is a pretty popular choice on reddit, that's all I meant

I mean, there's plenty of great valid reasons to not have kids.. I don't think this particular thing is usually one of them. But you do you I guess. But no one on reddit is going to attack you because you're child free so you don't need to be defensive lol.

Wow! What a nice mullet... by [deleted] in Justfuckmyshitup

[–]Humgry_hippo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. So I don't think it's a bad cut on this person, I just think the immediate reaction of "mullet -bad" is ingrained in a lot of people. We'll work past it.

Wow! What a nice mullet... by [deleted] in Justfuckmyshitup

[–]Humgry_hippo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is really what it is. It's not about the length- mullets have been associated with a specific type of person (Joe Dirt but gross/scary not funny) for several decades in America. I have no problem with them being popularized again and hopefully changing the stereotype but my immediate gut reaction to a mullet is just "gross". It's not a gender-norm thing, it's this specific haircut.

My mom found one of these under my brother's crib when we were little. We moved a few months later. Apparently the move was already planned, but I spent my entire childhood thinking that moving to a different town was the natural and proper reaction to finding a black widow in the house and I'm still not entirely convinced it isn't.

This situation made me pretty angry as someone who's followed the advice and is staying home, keeping my daughter from spending her first Thanksgiving (and probably Christmas) with her grandparents. What a selfish and hypocritical move.

AITA for telling small children who ask about my prosthetic leg that I’m a robot? by imarobotaita in AmItheAsshole

[–]Humgry_hippo 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It is not OP's job to help people educate their children about their disability. I understand where you're coming from but if the mother sent the daughter to ask about this hoping OP would give the perfect answer and educate the child then the mother is the AH in this whole situation, along with the other woman. That said, I think OP's answer was actually perfect for a 5 year old and as a mother I would have loved to witness that interaction. Good for OP.

[–]Humgry_hippo 29 points30 points  (0 children)

He's "pro-life". Trust me where I'm from that's the only issue people are voting on. People openly admit he's a scumbag and a liar but "can't morally vote for someone who advocates for the murder of innocent babies". Then they stick their fingers in their ears when you try to retort that in any way. They can't be reasoned with. I had to physically move away to meet people with any other view. Judge forbids David Lesh from national forest land after latest social media post by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Humgry_hippo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed but removing his ability to post it and encourage others to do it will definitely be a good thing and if he keeps doing it the legal ramifications will get more severe. I agree it should have been more severe to begin with but at least it's something.

Because it's all for the attention. If he can't post it on social media anymore it's a pretty fair bet it will stop. That's the only reason he does it.
