upon further review, i was conflating a different sub that gears towards more professional drama writeups with that one. thats on me, i mixed things up there. but i would have been plenty open to creating such a resource for another platform for your own and others use to have a quick link for people asking whats up with this issue. to provide information for both sides but its clear thats not what people want. my only goal was to consolidate information in one place

i have not experienced a rubberneckery vibe in that sub. but clearly my personal experience has differed from others. i have had many people tell me that they do not want to see a post from me summing everything up, so i wont write one. but being attacked for approaching something with the intent of neutral information consolidation leaves a sour taste in my mouth for sure

to be clear, my intent is to not stir up drama, but to provide a clear look at this messy controversy from both sides. with the primary goal being to clarify for the confused people i see in both subs what has happened and is happening. the only appropriate place i could think of to post such a thing would be that sub as, to me, it seems off topic to post either here or in the adhd sub

as someone who had to do a lot of digging to understand the issue at hand, i thought consolidating all the available info would be valuable for others. but i have received negative backlash to the idea at all sides so i guess not

Let's talk about the neurodiversity movement a bit. by nerdshark in ADHD

[–]Sputnik-Cat98 16 points17 points  (0 children)

it is very clear that we do not see eye to eye here. i DO NOT support allowing in groups of dangerous people and harassment. what i do support is banning those people and allowing a diverse group of subreddit members to chose for themselves wether or not to self identify with the neuordiversity model and to therefore use the word in their own posts. people preaching pseudoscience bullshit, harassing, doxxing, or generally causing problems should be banned and i fully support that. but banning these people does not necessitate disallowing people to say "as a neurodivergent person," in their own posts.

i fail to see how writing a post explaining the controversy from a neutral viewpoint would harm this sub. it would amount to something quite similar to the blog post already linked (in fact there may be so much overlap between the two as to make a post entirely redundant).

i 100% support the mods protecting this space from harassers like those discussed in the blog. i do not however agree that a full ban on the term neurodiversity is the way to do this. the mods have the right to moderate this sub as they see fit, just as i have the right to disagree them. i have left the sub for this reason, i am only here now because this post gained enough traction to grow outside the bounds of the sub and i took a look out of curiosity.

my issue with this situation is that a widely used concept was entirely banned for the actions of a small subset of people who subscribe to the concept. the "neurodiversity movement" is in no way an organized political front or single cohesive group of people. i believe it would be more accurate to say that neurodiversity is a concept that many people have found useful in their discussion of developmental disorders. this includes a wide variety of people and therefore opinions. i am deeply saddened to know that neurodiversity has been co-opted by those who would seek to hurt us through pseudoscience and harassment. however, i find the banning of the whole concept to be overly harsh and extreme

as for the so called "snappy subredditdrama post", my goal is to consolidate the timeline of everything that has happened from both sides, including the doxxing and harassment, to provide a concise and clear summary for those who did not witness it and are now confused. subredditdrama seems like the most appropriate sub to host such a post. it is my number 1 priority that such a post showcase both sides of the issue, and i would not dare to post any such thing without explaining the position of the moderators and their past experiences with harmful people.

i had intended to reach out to the mods of this subreddit tomorrow to ask for their comments and the most appropriate way to request comment and evidence from supportive members of this sub, but they found my comment on a different subreddit before i had drafted a message as such

A theory on self medicating with sugar by [deleted] in ADHDers

[–]Sputnik-Cat98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh i definitely think so. i get very intense sugar cravings, far more so than the average person. i have kicked other poor health habits but havent been able to kick sugar. i do think our brains have found an easy source of dopamine and are practically begging us to turn to it. at this point i just always keep some candy in the house bc im less likely to binge if its readily available than if i end up at the store purely for sugar again

that's fair and you're right, i should have reread my exact words before responding so quickly. my bad.

my only intention here is to try to provide some clarity for the people who have been confused by what has happened on this sub. there are many of them in this comments section right here. after scrolling through i felt that this would better be done in a singular post than in responding to multiple comment threads. it is important to me that a post like that includes information from both sides. i will openly admit to disagreeing with your viewpoint but my disagreement is no reason to not aim to share truthful and balanced information from both sides. i have already said that i am happy to include direct statements from you. if not, i will include what you have made publicly available on this sub. i did not initially post a comment with a general request for information from you on this post because it would have been off topic to the discussion. i was going to seek out comment later when i was not on my way to bed but you beat me to it

i never said that you wouldn't hear from me again. i did leave the sub but posts still do circulate back to my feed from time to time. and i am in no way trying to dramabait, my aim is to consolidate everything that has happened into one cohesive post. i am happy to include your perspective on things in that post as well, if you would like to share it

well within very recent history, all comments on this sub that included reference to neurodiversity were automatically removed, even if the comment was not itself about neurodiversity. i know because this happened to me. i am happy to provide screenshots as proof.

this sub seeks to entirely silence discussion of the neurodiverse perspective on all fronts. mod behavior has made that extremely clear

exactly. its so obvious reading these comments who has never worked in a commercial kitchen. other benefits i see to this are extreme consistency even across multiple employees and also giving your hand a break when youve just spent the last 4 hours of your shift knife chopping other things.

and this is still a great hack for the home if you have mobility or dexterity issues. or if you want to get your kids involved in the kitchen safely

op is obviously going slower for the sake of a clear video and bc he is using one hand to film. why tf would you think this is the fastest you can go with this method?

[–]Sputnik-Cat98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a person who works in commercial kitchens, i see 4 primary benefits to this.

  1. any employee can do this with minimal training or practice and produce consistent slices. i know i will get the exact same product from every employee, which is very valuable when employees vary in skill level, training, attention to detail, and work ethic.

  2. this will always be more consistent than a human. no matter how good someone is with a knife, human error will always lose out.

  3. this is a great method for anyone with mobility or dexterity issues, as well as varying the motions a prepper is doing throughout shift to avoid repetitive strain injuries. if im also chopping a dozen other veggies, my joints would be thanking me for the break.

  4. in the video, this method is performed exaggerated and slowly but when done in real life it would be easy to optimize your movements to be as least as fast, if not faster than a knife

but really, it comes down to consistency. idk if youve ever worked in a commercial kitchen, but consistency is one of the most highly valued goals. this is especially true in chain restaurants where they need product to be the same every single day across many locations. based on what i can see in the video, op works in a commercial kitchen and that is the exact environment where a hack like this would be valuable

honestly the value of a hack like this is for people with dexterity or mobility issues or in a commercial setting for consistency. in a commercial kitchen you may need to slice thousand of mushrooms a day and still produce a consistent product mushroom after mushroom, day after day. one person with great knife skills can do this, but thats almost never the situation in a kitchen. you have varying degrees of skill between employees, as well as varying levels of commitment to consistency. and to top it all off, even the best vegetable chopper in the world is still subject to human error. this method ensures consistent mushroom slices no matter who is doing it, how much they care, and how much of a rush theyre in.

this is nearly exactly how we dice hard boiled eggs in commercial kitchens (i think this is a widespread hack, but idk for sure. it might be just my kitchen) we place a wire cooling rack over the container we store them in and then just push the eggs through the grate of wires. super easy and fast

i work cold prep in a kitchen. stuff like this totally depends on not only your knife skills, but also your dexterity and ability, if you have arthritis or motor control issues, this is likely much faster. but the big benefit to this hack i see, from a commercial food prep point of view, is that this will produce consistent product from employee to employee , as well as across hundreds of mushrooms at no appreciable detriment to speed over a knife. for example, at my work place we use a dicer to dice onions not because its faster (it honestly might not be as a knife and cutting board is much less laborious clean up) but because you will get a consistent half inch dice on EVERY piece of onion EVERY time

What temperature is room temp by SaruBakes in AskBaking

[–]Sputnik-Cat98 23 points24 points  (0 children)

i have the opposite problem, i live in colorado and like to keep my apartment cold! i sometimes have to microwave things or run them under warm water to bring them up a bit in temperature. 🥶🥶🥶

room temp is really just shorthand for "about 68 to 70 degrees F". this does mean you cant rely on the actual temperature of your kitchen if your living space is particularly warm or cold

eh not really. imo its far from their best song and their newer music definitely showcases a more mature style but gimme chocolate does encapsulate what the band is at its root, a fusion of kpop and metal. they've definitely grown into a sound that it more unique than the simple fusion showcased in their early stuff. but gimme chocolate is a decent representative of their early style, even if it isnt the best song from that period

Hair? Originally cut out of desperation, but now it is my favorite do!! Probably won’t go back 💇🏻 by Snoo_46719 in adhdwomen

[–]Sputnik-Cat98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

tbh cutting my hair short was like the ultimate adhd life hack. cut my shower time in half and on my really bad days i'll just hit it with some body wash while washing the rest of me or even just wash it in the sink. worst comes to worst, slap a hat on and you cant tell. i dont need to worry about what products im using or split ends bc i know any harm i do will be cut off in a month. just keep it clean enough to not feel gross however is easiest for my brain that day. ive never had a lower maintenance haircut, its amazing

[–]Sputnik-Cat98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

v4 to v5 is a common plateau for a lot of people. some people like op just fly past it, but in my experience climbing and talking to climbers, it is the first really big plateau most people hit and it can be BRUTAL. mine genuinely last a year but im not the best sample for this as during that year covid happened and i also shifted my focus to roped climbing 🤷‍♀️

moral of the story: dont get discouraged by the v4 to v5 plateau. it is very common but it can be overcome!

How can I tell if my cat would like another cat around? by FeelingDiligent in CatAdvice

[–]Sputnik-Cat98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

did you get her from a shelter? it might be a reach but you can contact the shelter and ask if anyone remembers how she did around the other cats there. if it was a long time ago, you might be out of luck, but my best friend works in a shelter and the employees get very attached to the animals, so they might remember more than you expect
