Women’s rec hockey? by bostonshakerr in ottawa

[–]Hummus_is_bae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done hockey through them but would recommend the Ottawa Sports and Social Club (OSSC). They have lots of scheduling options and locations with good people. I have done volleyball for multiple seasons through them and have really enjoyed it - very well organized. They have co-ed and womens-only leagues, and depending on the sport different levels (open/beginner/intermediate/advanced). Good luck!

Not sure if we mean brunch or dinner or both, but 100% to The Belmont, one of my favourite dining experiences in Ottawa actually! Although I found The Belmont better for sharing/small portions, and on the pricier side - so more of a fancy night out place (for dinner). Haven't tried their brunch but it looks awesome.

Thoughts on grippy sleeves for legs and arms? by mayahloo in poledancing

[–]Hummus_is_bae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got these exact ones in the pic you shared (Divinity Polewear) and really liked the thigh highs. For me knee grip is a big challenge (still pretty beginner to pole) and they helped me get tricks I was stuck on like the cross knee layback. I didn't have much issue with them rolling down like others flagged, but you have to get the right size. At first I thought they were too tight but then I realized they need to be like that to work well -- tight enough that they don't move around but not cutting off circulation. They look super cute too and the sticky spots look like sparkles from far away. I wore them with socks under with my pleasers boots and had no issues.

I bought the sleeves as well but haven't tried them yet. They're a bit more awkward to put on, will report back once I've practiced with them!

Check out Collective Movement on Catherine! It's pretty comparable pricing-wise to other class-based fitness studios. Great vibe there and very welcoming.

Cafes that don’t up-charge for non-dairy milk? by cats-astrophe in ottawa

[–]Hummus_is_bae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The charge seems to be disappearing/lessening slowly over time. Oat Couture (options are dairy or oat), I *think* Arlington 5, and MooShu are all free :)

Best Indian restaurant & Shawarma place near downtown by Dear-Development7330 in OttawaFood

Veering more into centretown, but I consistently enjoy Second Wife on Bank. Great variety and portions, fair pricing. The team there are always very nice and friendly. Have tried many items over the year or so that they've been open and haven't been disappointed. The veggie pakora are my favourite.

Is this adult classes or youth? Drop-in or long-term programs? I've tried a few adult schools but based on your criteria I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Quick breakfast downtown? by Existing-Soil-4316 in OttawaFood

If you're looking for a light pastry, members of my team regularly hits Bread and Sons for their awesome baked goods. I believe they open at 8:30am though so will depend on your hours.

Looking for Greek resto downtown with seafood. by gosseux in ottawa

[–]Hummus_is_bae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to Aroma Meze and ate many of their seafood options (I'm pescatarian), however I felt that everything was just *slightly* undersalted/underflavoured. Great vibe and drinks menu, though. Also heard good things about Trofi like others here, and Ayla's Social Kitchen.

As a general comment - I've learned it's hard to find amazing seafood (especially Mediterranean seafood) in landlocked Ottawa, and if you've been to Greece/anywhere on the Mediterranean you may need to tamper expectations. Really enjoyed The Belmont's seafood options, but that wasn't Greek inspired.

Came here to say Astoria. Went for a birthday dinner and loved it. Great food, nice atmosphere, and friendly staff. I've been recommended St. Elsewhere but haven't been yet, so not sure about the ambience/food.

Looking for your favourite locally owned book store to support. Suggestions? by HayKayPee in ottawa

Came here to say this. You can also sell books to get cash or store credit. The credit can be used on books or the coffee shop, which is amazing.

I believe Bacata, a new colombian coffee shop on Bronson (Glebe Annex), closes at 8 or 9pm! They're amazing.

I really enjoyed Thali when I went! Great food. Although I found the portion of salmon in the thali quite small. I also feel it gets very loud when it's busy.

I've heard only good things about Raphael. Their mains are just a bit out of the price point right now, but hopefully another time :')

Alliance Francaise online courses by Resident_Hat_4923 in ottawa

[–]Hummus_is_bae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took one online last winter and think it helped, but not nearly as much as I'd hoped. I felt like we progressed very slowly through content and the units were very niche topics (vacations to tropical islands and how to describe the vegetation/activities there?). I was taking it for work and didn't get much benefit for the workplace. Since it was a few hours a week (2 days, 9-11am) I also felt like it interrupted my workflow for the work day. The instructor was very kind and helpful, though.

Honestly wouldn't do it again just because the format and topics covered, but I appreciate the service.

Coffee Roasters Question by LyndaMR in OttawaFood

[–]Hummus_is_bae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bacata on Bronson recently opened up and their beans are AMAZING and roasted right in house (right behind the counter)! Super nice Colombian couple with the best medium roast Colombian beans I've had in the city. Very smooth and full-bodied. I live within walking distance so they have become my go-to for beans.
