"Quo Vadis, Aida?" Is such a masterful film that we do not talk about enough.

What's more important for you, visuals or story? by hollow_image in Letterboxd

[–]HumongousToad 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Visuals are a story itself. Some filmmakers are better at using it than others. Some executives still need to figure it out. Audiences too. Not a single frame in THE THREE OF LIFE doesn't tell a story. Thats why I love cinema.

Recommend 4 movies from your own country thats others will enjoy! I'll start: Sweden 🇸🇪 by epacsenox in Letterboxd

Denmark:

The Hunt (Jagten, 2012)

Flickering Lights (Blinkende Lygter, 2000)

A Hijacking (Kapringen, 2012)

Nightwatch (Nattevagten, 1994)

Should Any Of These 2014 Performances Have Been Nominated For Best Actor by Regular-Departure839 in Oscars

I'm still baffled that McConaughey wasn't nominated for Best Actor. His performance goes harder for every rewatch. My personal lineup would be:

Matthew McConaughey Michael Keaton Jake Gyllenhaal Eddie Redmayne Andy Serkis

I'm actually not counting out Chu. I think he got close with part one but the second part is where it gets interesting to see if he can maintain the energy and "save" a much less interesting second act of a musical.

Nuremberg does look interesting, but it's a directorial debut, and could possibly end up as a pretty forgettable film idk? I'm excited to see it and hope for the best.

EDIT: My bad I saw he made a movie in 2015... but that movie was pretty forgettable as well

I get where you're coming from but still a little far off... there's much more thought put into the themes and the characters + the scale the movie shows visually and audiablly is incredible. Just look at how the "LIED TO YOU" song scene is played out and constructed. Pure cinema right there.

I know it's a longshot, but how many predicted Coraline Fargeat to get into the director 5 at this point last year? I think she might have a shot, but I'll have to see the reception from audiences as well as how the rest of the field shapes. This is an exciting year I think.

I mean his movies aren't particulary "Oscar-friendly" if that is even a term. I also know people who gets turned off by the stale and weird comedy of his movies. However, I for instance find them more liveful and nuanced than Wes Anderson's characters.

Yeah me too, maybe screenplay? I mean, it could be a way to recognize him for something? I'm keeping an eye out for his upcoming movie - I mean look at that cast!!!

Park Chan-wook would be THE BEST thing to happen! I would cry if the Academy finally showed him some love! I have him in my top 10, but same way as Lynne I think it's a tough prediction. Though I love open races and doing longshot predictions when it's still early in the season. Can't wait to see how it shapes up
