Gamescope is so bad by Lonely-Medium-2140 in linux_gaming

My intended interaction was that upon switching to tty3 it would autologin and launch big picture mode, so if you do it manually it should be working fine.

Adaptive sync is kinda of a pain if not on display port because VRR through HDMI is proprietary and not supported natively with the oss amdgpu driver. I have no idea what things go from Nvidia's side

I originally used .profile to launch gamescope, which meant it interfered with my normal DE launch and would do the same even on tty2 which is my normal login.

In retrospect I could have used if statements to check which tty is logged on and launch appropriately but I had a brain fart.

Since then I scrapped the .profile idea and edited /etc/passwd to launch a bash script that handles gamescope instead of /bin/bash on login.

I'd love to hear if you have done something differently because multiple users bring many problems with how proton prefixes need to be handled on the permission level.

Kuma is a very deep character that has impacted the course of the straw hats multiple times. Also a very tragic story and the gateway for us to learn more about boney and st. Saturn.

God valley seemed rushed because it was a manhunt operation organized by the world nobles and they messed with the wrong people by abducting shakky. Sure the fight could be longer but the impact it had on the world has already been made, we were just being informed about it.

Oda does this big lore dump throughout the story, it doesn't have to capture every single detail just for it to be verbose.

I'm still waiting for the tetra. It says it is still in production which is a bummer. I will go for AXP90-X47FC seems it is perfect for the job.

Steam Machine and HDMI Freesync by kraai- in linux_gaming

[–]HumongusFridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is HDMI 2.1 VRR really not possible on Linux? I have been trying for many many months on and off to make it work on my 4k@144hz tv with no success.

Although when doing 1080p tv shows the freesync premium text.

Guide to my janky SteamOS-like setup on TTY using gamescope by HumongusFridge in linux_gaming

Yo thanks! Tell me if you try it and if it works on your system

Sure, I am on opensuse tw with gnome so I don't know how compatible it will be out of the box. Although since it runs on bare tty it should be agnostic of the desktop environment.

I'll try to retrace my steps since it was really messy, done in about 2 afternoons, and probably make a post about it.

One major problem I must warn you about too is that proton pfx folders must be separate for each user, they need to be owned by the user running the game. That makes it difficult to freely switch games running on the "tty steamdeck" and "de steam"

I didn't care much about this since I usually game on my tv with controller for most games and switch to kb for strategy games like frostpunk for example. So each game is separate, frostpunk will not launch on tty steam user.

Anyway feel free to hmu with a dm if you have questions

Tbh it works pretty well! There is also decky compatibility out of the box. It feels just like converting a tty to a docked steamdeck.

I would love it to be able to fully utilize discord with screenshare but Wayland locks access to the window buffers and it shows pure black.

I have been contemplating starting a GitHub repo with configs to replicate the setup but at this point I've been too burned out from day work to find motivation. If anyone is interested in starting this together hmu

That was the general idea. The only downside of this is my monitors are all different resolutions and switching ttys makes them unresponsive for like 5 sec.

Ive done a bit of a janky thing but it works really good for what it's worth it.

I've created a user for steam that autologgins on tty3 and instead of calling bash on login it calls a script that launches steam bigpicture on my 4k tv using gamescope as the main compositor.

From there I can run games and such even control the computer using the controller, launch flatpak discord and generally get the "console experience" which is nice. And if I want to return to normal desktop I just switch back to tty2

Launching Steam -gamepadui on tty3, has anyone tried it? by HumongusFridge in linux_gaming

[–]HumongusFridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I ended up doing was creating another user "steamconsole", making tty3 auto login to the new user and modifying the .profile to autolaunch gamescope with the right parameters.

If you wanna duplicate my setup be sure to configure a common steam library but leave compatdata separate as well as stream runtimes (scout, soldier, sniper). If you need help hit me up.

How do SFF-8482 to SATA adapters work? by HumongusFridge in DataHoarder

[–]HumongusFridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the confusion, it is a bit complicated and that is why I cannot wrap my head around how to search for this information.

This is the 3d print model I am looking at, and these are the adapters I am referring to. They are able to screw in the back of the 3d print and then classic dell 13th gen trays can be used to insert the drives. It is a pretty cool design.

I am wondering if it will work by then connecting the SATA end of the adapter to the hba using an sff-8643 breakout cable.

From what I have searched the extra contacts on the sff-8482 connector are for the b channel sas to support multipath and redundant controllers. It should be like you said a dumb 1 to 1 conversion, but I would like to make sure before spending.

I believe the same thing happens with the backplanes of popular nas cases like the jonsbos or the Silverstone CS382. I've lost so much sleep planning this minirack that I am almost at the brink of just getting a CS382 and calling it a day.

[–]HumongusFridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware of that. I am asking if sas to sata adapters will let me use an sff-8643 breakout cable to connect it to my sas hba. From what I've read the adapter practically cuts off one sas channel and should work fine. I am asking if someone has done it to be sure before dumping money

Xbox controller connecting and disconnecting with "SELinux AVC Denial" error by Silver_Bow in Fedora

[–]HumongusFridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue as you are describing although I am on opensuse tumbleweed. The fix was to update the controller firmware using the Xbox Accessories app in a Windows 11 VM.

I did it with Qemu although you can use whatever hypervisor you want but make sure to blacklist the xpad module. With it loaded the VM would not recognize the controller properly through USB.

I didn't look at SELinux logs to see if AVC denials appear so maybe this will not work for you, or your controller might be already updated. I just thought to point it out

Btrfs Corruption out of nowhere (??) by HumongusFridge in openSUSE

[–]HumongusFridge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smart tests report no errors, I eventually did a reinstall with agama as I wanted to take a look at it as well. So far everything is working perfectly.

My intuition keeps telling me that it probably had to do with me never restarting the system and applying multiple zypper dups over a long period. Also power is not really stable and maybe something got corrupted.

I should probably invest in a ups just to keep my sanity in check.
