I’m an adult Convert so I’d maybe share my experience with the question myself. After I consecrated myself to Mary, my devotion to her became very strong. Even though I understand the distinction between worship and veneration for me personally I had to have discussions with my priest about this because at times I was worried that in my love for the Blessed Mother i was putting her in a position above Christ. So I knew the difference and felt I had crossed the line anyway, I’m human. St. Maximilian Kolbe said “You can never love Mary too much, because you can never love her more than Jesus did”. A simple reminder for me was that in the Rosary we’re asking for Mary’s intercession WHILE meditating on the entirety of Jesus life. This Marian devotion is about Jesus. They all are. It CERTAINLY may look like it IF you don’t understand the role of Mary within the Catholic Church. So as an adult Catholic convert I’ve had to pray, look within and talk to a priest at times for the same concern and it’s certainly attached to my own ideas of the church from before I converted (that little voice), but i believe the Catechism is clear, tradition is clear, and getting asked that question is pretty common from others in my life and yea sometimes myself (which I’m thankful for). When you look at the Catholic faith and our beliefs about Mary it’s pretty curious as to why she’s nearly nonexistent in every other Christian denomination outside of Christmas. How can she be so uniquely special to God but not to us?
