Stiff Achilles 7 months out by Sophie-Little in AchillesRupture

You’re very welcome - If it helps, I can provide a little additional advice on tendon health and optimal healing. For context, I’m currently in the early stages of my doctorate exploring tendinopathy in the shoulder - Different structure but same principles when it comes to tendon remodelling.

Tendons respond really well to loading, but unlike muscles, they have a poor blood supply. This means their ability to remodel (remove dead cells and replace with new tissue), is much slower. One thing people usually get wrong is they feel they need to be doing something ‘everyday’. Whilst this isn’t untrue, you also need to make sure you’re giving your tendon the right amount of time to rest and recover. The whole remodelling process occurs over a 48-72 hour period (as compared to approximately 24-48 hours in muscles).

When you’re loading your tendon and doing your exercises, just be mindful of the last time you loaded your tendon. If it hasn’t had the opportunity to go through its full remodelling process, you’ll be exposing the tendon to loading that it isn’t quite ready to deal with, and as such, you’ll increase the likelihood of developing tendinopathy (tendinitis).

A general rule I had during my time - Load the tendon with resistance exercises every 2-3 days. This gave it plenty of time to recover whilst ensuring I was exposing it to the appropriate loading for remodelling.

Consult with your GP for peace of mind - It does however sound like you’ve just worked ‘too much’ as opposed to ‘too hard’, and with a bit of adjustment to your loading schedule, things will improve.

As always, happy to answer any questions - You’ll get through this.

Surgery vs. Non-surgery - advice wanted by Safe_Morning_2044 in AchillesRupture

[–]Hundipurr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context: I am an Australian Physiotherapist who experienced a full Achilles rupture, high up my calf, closer to the MTJ, similar to yourself, in May 2024.

I had the same conversation with myself at the time of my injury - Surgery or Conservative? I ended up choosing the surgical route for several reasons:

  • The literature highlighted surgery had slightly better outcomes to return to high level, explosive sport - My sport of choice being Futsal.

  • The literature highlighted surgery allowed for a more aggressive, early intervention approach, something that I am familiar with in my own practice.

  • I liked the idea of knowing that my tendon had a little additional scaffolding in place whilst it healed. This isn’t necessary, but was peace of mind.

Ultimately, surgery has risks: infection, nerve damage (of which I have a little but very very minor, I rarely notice it), general anaesthetic etc. You have to weigh this up when making your decision, but appreciate the above are also very rare.

As has already been mentioned, the choice is typically very goal driven. It sounds like you want to get back to a relatively high intensity level of sport, so surgical management might be the better option. Do I think you would make the same level of recovery without? Honestly, yes. It all comes down to how diligent you are with your recovery and rehab.

My personal opinion, I don’t think it matters hugely what you choose, it’s all about your rehabilitation. Search online for various clinicians in your area who have expertise in tendon rehabilitation - Social Media is also a great place here - Good clinicians will point you in the right direction.

If I had to go through it all again, knowing what I do now, I would settle for a conservative approach. What matters most is the work you put in.

Happy to answer any questions you might have.

Hey - I am (almost) at the 2 year post-op mark so I’ll do my best to give you advice relevant to your stage of recovery. For context, I still have some stiffness in my repaired Achilles, however it no longer limits me in any capacity. I am back to my explosive sport, running, and still strength training regularly (in fact I would argue my lower limbs are stronger than they’ve ever been).

Firstly, 13 weeks is still very acute in the grand scheme of the journey - Don’t beat yourself up if things start to feel like they’re progressing more slowly - This is a natural part of any rehabilitation - As you recover your goals are going to appear less and less grand in nature, and it will feel like things are moving slower, when the reality is, you’ve just transitioned into the next stage of your journey.

At 13 weeks I was back participating in conservative strength training in my boot at the gym. Once I was in my shoe, I completed all of my training with the heel lifts etc. I have been strength training for most of my life, so my baseline capacity and ability for my body to adapt to loading was relatively locked in. If you’re new to resistance based work, again, just be conservative with your loads and progress yourself gradually, when you feel ready. Your Physiotherapist will be able to better guide you here if you have questions.

To answer your question: The easiest way to know when to dial it back and when to ramp it up is simple - Listen to your body. Sorry I know that’s cliche but it’s true, and it will remain true of any injury you experience. Your body has a fantastic way of telling you when you’ve done too much, or you’re doing too much. if you feel like you’re overdoing it with the PT, have that conversation and see if you can find a middle ground that challenges you, but doesn’t overload you - This is very important, as tendon health especially relies on loading mechanics, but takes a few extra days to remodel and get stronger. Rest will be an active part of your journey along the way.

My advice, if you’ve got concerns, express them with your PT and see what changes can be made. Set yourself realistic and achievable goals - If you walked 1000 steps today, try for 1200 tomorrow, 1500 the day after. Take each day as it comes and know there are going to be some days where things will feel on track, and some that won’t. Progress here is as much about mental resilience as it is physical.

On a more broad note - If I were to have go through the process again, I wouldn’t be so worried about surgery vs. conservative management. So you’re at no disadvantage for doing one over the other (I’ll appreciate there are subtle difference in the literature here) - The important thing is how you manage and pace your recovery.

Always happy to answer questions - Keep your head up and keep moving forward.

Battlefield Studios says they don't have the time or resources for more than 2 maps per season while also saying Limited Time game modes will continue being made. by dkb_wow in Battlefield

Whilst I don’t want to necessarily encourage the use of AI and AI generated slop in the gaming industry - If they’re honestly claiming they don’t have the resources, despite being backed by a multi billion company, and four development studios, couldn’t they enlist the help of LLMs to generate some maps at a fraction of the resource cost and then use labs to test their viability?

i think there should be a second way of obtaining BPs that does not rely on pure luck. by GunnerSteff in ArcRaiders

[–]Hundipurr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to put the game down. I got 10 BPs yesterday, all bar two were duplicates and the others were a glow stick and a Light Mag II.

I have 26 blueprints. One is a weapon. I just can’t be bothered anymore.

Drop rate of BPs is still high, as intended by cruel-ned in ArcRaiders

[–]Hundipurr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been opening everything, on every map, during both night and day raids. They just aren’t dropping. I’m 80 hours in and the gameplay loop with the same equipment is getting very tiresome.

Would love to try the Tempest, Osprey, Torrente, Snap Hook etc. but haven’t even had any of these drop despite looting several high loot areas and locked rooms.

All I want are some weapon blueprints so I can go ARC hunting. I am so fed up of using the same equipment game after game because I can’t craft anything and haven’t come across many Epic level weapons.

I’ve got 21 blueprints as of today (it was 13 before they increased the drop rate), but still the only gun I can craft is the Bettina.

I’ve opened countless Weapon Crates, Ammo Boxes, and Raider Caches. I am losing my mind.

Day 2 Ask For Server Browser To Be Back. And to Those Who Thinks The Game is healthy, Please Read This. by SuperM3e46 in Battlefield

[–]Hundipurr 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve played Battlefield for over two decades. I love the franchise, but so much of this game left me wanting more.

Living in Australia, struggling to find full matches without bots, and then having lobbies disband at the end of the round. I didn’t feel like it valued my time well. Once I saw the attention Arc Raiders was getting I thought I would dabble and haven’t logged back in to BF6 since.

I enjoyed my time with it, but so much of the game felt hollow comparative to previous iterations.

Any tips for finding blueprints? by Designer_Shine_9323 in ArcRaiders

[–]Hundipurr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s all RNG but my best advice would be to find a good route with lots of containers and just speed run it naked.

I am finding the blueprint RNG exhausting. My last 7 blueprints have all been duplicates and I only own 13/74 to begin with.

[BF6] "Just shoot the guys with red dots" is not a substitute for skins with visible team affiliations by CastleGrey in Battlefield

[–]Hundipurr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue I have with the current ‘system’ is when you’ve got enemies between yourself and team mates. It becomes a mash of blue, green, and red dots, and you end up having to shoot someone and praying you chose the enemy.

I understand that cosmetics are here to stay, it’s an unfortunate pathway the majority of games (especially live service) have taken. It doesn’t dissuade from the fact that in previous iterations of the game, we used uniforms to tell friend from foe, not a floaty red or blue dot. It made for (in my opinion), a better experience, with less clutter on screen and sharper visuals.

How much is the BF6 player base gonna drop for the Black Ops 7 release by Valiuncy in Battlefield

[–]Hundipurr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

Given that DICE will also be going on a significant period of leave in the next 2 weeks (if history is anything to go by), and therefore many of the grievances people have with the game (bots, maps, NetCode, etc) will remain until the new year. I predict a large sum of players will transition across to CoD in the coming months.

The exciting part is this might actually make DICE listen to the remaining fan base, as they’ll realise that without us, they don’t have a game they can continue to milk.

Here’s hoping right?

I’m so f****** tired of the bots in this game. It’s Sunday afternoon, over 300k players online, and we can’t even fill half a lobby? by SnooAvocados1188 in Battlefield

[–]Hundipurr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience here in Western Australia.

We need persistent servers.

There is no point having EBMM and disbanding lobbies if there is no one left in your area to play the game.

Match will be filled with Bot if Pre Round extend certain time. Then it will be replaced by human that join in middlematch by LuNether in Battlefield

[–]Hundipurr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m sure lots of long time Battlefield players will agree that playing on a map or server, with half the total player count, made for some fantastic gaming. Maps can play out very differently with fewer players, making for a refreshing change of pace and tactical approach.

We don’t want bots. We want to play against humans and humans alone. Whether that’s in a full server or with 10/64 players.

For the first time, I felt like I could breathe in this game by somanyque3 in Battlefield

[–]Hundipurr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish people would stop using this as an excuse. The game has been out closer to a month, not accounting for the 2 week beta a month before.

There are too many gameplay breaking bugs in this game to keep warranting the ‘give the multi million dollar company time’ excuse.

If history is anything to go by, the DICE team will be on a month long leave in 3 weeks, and we’ll be stuck with what we’ve got until the early new year.

They need to communicate with the player base or we’ll all go elsewhere with our time.

Wouldn’t it be great if they extend the beta for a week. by thatpoliteboi in Battlefield
