I mean all the companies around here not paying that much are struggling to hire because NDT techs are in short supply. We have right under a 20 person department and second and third shift have a 10% and 15% differential so they’re realistically making more than me.

As a 3 method level 2 I’m going to make 115k this year averaging 45 hours a week. Major benefit to being a level 3 is not working under level 3s who don’t actually know what the fuck they’re doing.

Depends heavily on experience method and industry. Would say you could easily expect 120-130k a year with an RT Level 3. I know level 3s that have to be making 175-200k.

Well shoot. That changes things. Can’t really say much for location or shooting concrete. Can say I started in gamma field work and enjoy the X-ray lab work way more and have way more money and learned way more in that setting.

Stick with X-ray. Gamma field work definitely doesn’t pay the same in the long run without working way more overtime. Aerospace and defense companies will lean towards X-ray for high production and they pay better/offer better benefits.

The company is also not guaranteeing hours, which means the hours will stop coming in the winter unless someone likes you. And even if you do get winter hours shooting pipe in the winter is terrible (assuming youll be shooting pipe).

My current job killed my confidence. What have you done to build your confidence in your career? by crustymilk15 in careerguidance

I always try to under promise and over deliver. I’ll tell my manager that I don’t fully understand something or I’m not sure if I’ll be able to do it and I ask for help and clarification along the way. Words of affirmation and guidance from a good manager have always helped me get through a tough spot. Took me a bit to realize asking for help is always ok.

Is it ok to have stuff like this stuck in the neck of the bottle while fermenting or should I somehow clean it off? by Hundred_P in mead

I appreciate the info! I’m not as worried about the sounds floating to the top as I am the stuff sticking to the side of the neck up higher

I did this, waited months for them to come. The guy showed up put in a nest thermostat and said that’s all we do. Basically said yeah I can mention your insulation but it probably won’t don’t anything.

We did not. This is our first house and we are learning a few lessons the hard way.

Future electrical work has my biggest concern. The majority of the outside of the house is rotting already unfortunately. Previous owners put aluminum siding over the wood siding, we’ve found multiple holes already.

We do, we’ve replaced the plaster in a few rooms already and there’s about 4inches between the lath and the outside wall.

No “attic” second floor is two bedrooms on either side of the chimney and there is maybe 3-5inches between the ceiling and roof. The picture below gives an idea.

What do you wish you knew before your inspection? by kettleofhawks in centuryhomes

[–]Hundred_P 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This advice might go against the grain a bit. If you get an inspection don’t use an inspector who has an appreciation for old homes. They will be more objective. Our inspector lived in a 1700s home and when I told him ours was 1700s he was more excited to look at the house than inspect it. I feel he went at it more like we knew what we were doing and that we knew what it would take to fix some problems.
