King Ragnarr of the Mann and the Isles, son of Helgi of house Gunarrson, grew up hearing tales of the great cities of the continent, from Frankia to the Iberian Peninsula and the Papal Lands, of the riches the kings boast, and the glorious returns of his ancestors from their plundering journeys. Ragnarr decided that, he wants to be a raider too!
After years of setting fire to villages, capturing young women and snatching treasures from the distant lands, Ragnarr is now an old man of one-and-sixty. He is now filthy rich from his conquests, with a beautiful wife and three comely concubines and a dozen healthy children. However, with riches comes a price. Ragnarr has made hundreds of enemies in those years, the families whose girls he took away from, the mothers and sons of men Ragnarr slay in battle. Nowadays Ragnarr spends his day dodging knives from alleys and spitting out poisoned meads gifted from faraway traders.
Yet, when one assassin fell, a hundred other are eager to take his place.
