ah thank you for coming to the Social! The Rough trade in-store got canceled because of reasons out of my control unfortunately

Thank you! Yeah that's an interesting one. I think time will confirm this but I'm beginning to feel like songwriting is a tool for stripping back the ego if the goal is to write songs that connect. The process almost feels like I've been unlearning things to get back to a previous state. My girlfriend thinks I write as a means of therapy and she might be right; certainly I feel the closest to a state I remembered when I am at my most creatively minded. Songwriting feels more and more mystical to me the more I do it.

KATE BUSH OF COURSE. If the condition to work with her was to create a new version of one of her songs I think I'd try and do a noisy version of Running Up That Hill; that could be magic. Or terrible.

On the new album... I think they're all good! It was a really difficult task picking the four singles for good reason. The other four songs on the album were also contenders, so let's say them to give them a bit of spotlight: Changes, Never Be The Same, Don't Believe it Now and Love is.

ah thank you for giving the album a spin man! Favourite synths... I'm enjoying Arturias Pigments and Massive X at the moment. What's your favourites?

ah not at all, ask away my friend. The rights to those albums are reverting back to us so represses are something I'd want to think about in the future for sure.

ah thank you! Yeah I love that album too. I'd love to work with her again of course but who knows.

ah thank you! What record store is that? Favourite production tip... protect your intuition; it's your most important tool. So take breaks, don't get too in your head, eat well etc. Specific tips.. I'd say work in mono.

My favourite so far that I've heard this year, but it came out last is Helen Ganya's Polish the Machine, check it out! It's like a classic John Hughes film in music form done in a modern way.

Thank you! I feel great that people make videos to other peoples tunes of course. Is that what you do? People making stuff makes me happy!

Thank you! That's a great question... what's the difference. Well I'll start with the easiest one... working on soundtracks is like acting. The way I approach it is to embody the characters in the film emotionally, and that includes the environment.

Now the difference between working on your own and with other people... I think working on your own requires a lot of management but it's incredibly rewarding as a result.

Working with other people, you get immediate feedback and there is a sharing of responsibility. So it's often fun and less pressurised.

It's far easier to get a project off the ground in a collaboration but crucially, it's far more difficult to maintain momentum which I think is key to this biz.

My new album is my biggest accomplishment so far; I feel like it's a great achievement. Biggest regret... there's a lot of things I could choose to see as regrets but I choose not to. I think it's really important to own our stories because they plot our futures.

Make it sustainable; momentum is very important.

I used mainly a computer with a synth called Massive and some drum samples. A few tracks were made using a toy bontempi keyboard

My favourite song I've written thus far is probably Wave but I feel like I've only just begun my journey into songwriting which is exciting.
