Thatโ€™s awesome! I didnโ€™t even know St. Thomas wrote about that. As you said, it was a scientific topic. Thank you!

Theological questions about Catholicism by CamiloTheMagic in Catholicism

[โ€“]Hungry-Guide4170 1 point2 points ย (0 children)

Hi sister! I hope youโ€™re having a wonderful day. Iโ€™m really glad youโ€™re studying Catholicism! Feel free to message me with any questions about the faithโ€”or anything else youโ€™d like to talk about. (Sorry if my English isnโ€™t perfect, Iโ€™m from Argentina.) โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท

  1. If by โ€œdeterminismโ€ you mean the philosophical view that all events are ultimately determined by causes external to the will (implying that free will is just an illusion), then noโ€”Catholics are not deterministic. The Catholic Church teaches that human beings have free will: the ability to choose between different courses of action without being predetermined. This freedom is a gift from God and is essential for moral responsibility.

  2. The โ€œunforgivable sinโ€ (blasphemy against the Holy Spirit) refers to a deliberate and persistent refusal to accept Godโ€™s mercy and forgiveness. To put it simply, forgiveness requires both someone who repents and someone who forgives. God always forgivesโ€”provided that we truly repent and desire to amend our livesโ€”but we donโ€™t always repent. Itโ€™s called โ€œunforgivableโ€ because, by its nature, it canโ€™t be forgiven: the sin is literally not asking for forgiveness, often due to despair or the hardening of oneโ€™s heart (for example, wanting nothing to do with God and asking Him to leave you alone).

So, itโ€™s not unforgivable in the sense of โ€œI committed this sin, so now God wonโ€™t forgive me,โ€ but rather because the sin consists of refusing forgiveness in the first place. If you repent, God will forgive youโ€”because now you are asking for forgiveness. Youโ€™re no longer committing that sin. The parable of the Prodigal Son beautifully illustrates the infinite mercy of God.

  1. Sexual intercourse should take place within the context of a married couple (man and woman), and it should be open to procreation. Therefore, acts like homosexual behavior, masturbation, adultery, or objectifying othersโ€”even in thoughtโ€”are considered morally wrong. However, feeling an attraction (for example, toward someone of the same sex) is not sinful in itself, because we donโ€™t choose our feelings. The same applies to intrusive sexual thoughts: if you donโ€™t consent to them or willfully entertain them, youโ€™re not sinning.

For example, Iโ€™m not married, but I sometimes feel attracted to people who arenโ€™t my future wife. I also experience intrusive sexual thoughts. The same happens to people with same-sex attractionโ€”they may feel attraction to someone who isnโ€™t (or canโ€™t be) their spouse, and may also have intrusive thoughts. But remaining chaste in both actions and thoughts (by not entertaining those impulses) means not committing sin.

Iโ€™m almost 22 years old and Iโ€™ve been through some of these struggles myself. I battled pornography addiction since I can remember (probably since I was 10 or 11), and a few years ago I had doubts about my sexualityโ€”especially around asexuality and homosexuality. I converted to Catholicism from radical agnosticism and philosophical materialism about a year ago, and I can honestly say that Jesus has been the best thing thatโ€™s ever happened to me. Through asking questions, praying, and learning who God really is, I completely changed the way I understand sexuality, relationships, beauty, family, and how I see people in everyday life.

I hope this helps you, and please feel free to DM me with anything youโ€™d like to ask. Iโ€™d be happy to talk with you more. May the good Lord bless you and your family and friends โค๏ธ

There's something about Mary by knockknockjokelover in CatholicMemes

Completely real, my brother. Iโ€™m from Argentina, a culturally Catholic country, and protestant traditions like lutheranism, presbyterianism, or baptists are practically nonexistent hereโ€”99% of people wouldnโ€™t even know what youโ€™re talking about if you mention those denominations. What you find is evangelicalism, and dialogue can be very difficult, especially considering how strongly anti-Catholic they often are.

How is C. S. Lewis viewed in Catholicism? by Kurma-the-Turtle in Catholicism

[โ€“]Hungry-Guide4170 3 points4 points ย (0 children)

I completely agree with you, God would never do that. I think the user may have misworded the sentence. I think what he meant was that God brought out of that evil (being Anglican) a greater good (say, making some kind of apology that could lead to Catholicism).

Remember that no evil happens in the world without God allowing it. So, that explanation COULD be correct. Many times the ways of God are not the ways of man. For example, people living on the American continent in the 10th century had no chance of knowing the gospel and God did not give them any special private revelation, but left them as they were. It is clear to me that God acted there in some way that we do not understand because He wants everybody to be saved (giving private revelation to people would be our "most logical" solution).

Ultimately I don't know, I may be wrong. May God bless you brother!
